eclipse99t
Ok, so I've been hearing different things from different people right now, so I'm just looking for some kind of definitve answer.Obviously, Palmer's ACL has been replaced with an achilles tendon from someone else. The achilles is supposed to be much stronger than the ACL, and also isn't supposed to degenerate in strength as more wear and tear is put on it.I've heard some people say that the knee is 100%, it's only the mental part that's hold him back...Is his knee actually 100%? Meaning, if gets hit big on the knee again, will it be stronger than it was on that dark day in January? Or are his real cells still growing over the implanted tendon, thus not completely incorportating it as part of his ligament?Whew. Secondly, what about his PCL and MCL? I don't remember which one he tore, but are THEY back to 100% becuase I know they didn't replace them, they just sewed them up together and let his body do the repair work.Any ideas? derekshank
The ACL will never be stronger than it was before. The muscles around the knee can be stronger, making it more difficult to reinjure... but the ligament itself will always be weaker. That said, if he were to get hit in the same way again, it wouldn't matter if his ligament were made of adamantium. It would tear again. He just needs to avoid those kinds of hits. Those kinds of hits are really rare though... as in Palmer was the only one this year who took that sort of hit, so I would doubt he would be unlucky enough for it to occur again. Why? Because achille's don't naturally weaken and degenerate like ACL's do with age. Basically that part of his knee will actually end up stronger once his cells take it over as their own, and his body accepts it.
aaronburr
Maybe I'm too much of a science fiction fan, but in this day of steroids and other "enhancements" I wonder if some day we'll be hearing about restrictions being put on reconstructive surgery. In this case I doubt Carson will be a better QB as a result of the surgery, but imagine if the injury was to his throwing arm and the doctor's use of a achielle tendon could somehow give him a stronger arm. You know some pitchers say they're stronger after Tommy John surgery. It's not that unreasonable to think deliberate surgical improvements are possible. What if you could take a guy like Jon Kitna and somehow put a sprinter's achielles in his shoulder...I guess you'd have to play the theme music from the $16 Million Dollar Man whenever he took the field. Palmer's knee should end up stronger in the long run with Achilles tendon installed, but it won't matter if he takes the same hit in the same place. Spain
Pittsburgh is perfectly capable of going for the knee again. I want to see a reinforced brace on the knee. As long as the NFL doesnt address the core problem any teams QB that pitt thinks they cant beat is in danger. Kimf**kinprick head should have been sent home for the rest of the playoffs for that. Then we would see what playa would do Cowers dirty work.

If they replace a 5 pound test line with a 10 pound test line, isn't the latter stronger? (Assuming the physician/fisherman can tie a decent knot)That said, if he were to get hit in the same way again, it wouldn't matter if his ligament were made of adamantium.Do you really want our starting quarterback to feature wild hair and retractible claws? That would make him a linebacker . . . or Jake Plummer.
ArmyBengal
I think everyone needs to get the hell off the Pittsburgh trip and focus on this year. ANY TEAM is perfectly capable of going after ANYONE'S knee. If someone WANTS to hurt another person on the field, they can do it regardless of some knee brace. That being said, I want Carson to do what feels comfortable to him and gives him the confidence in his knee.WHODEY !!!
