Spain
Like what Kelley played when we went into the nu-huddle. He would be a beast.

bengalboomer7
He's right again,(i must be on drugs ) except last year Perry did play some H-back, mostly with that little shuffle pass. I think you'll see it again this year
GROIIIDayton
bengalsboomer that was for one play and one play only hell any time he lines up back there we all know what they are running that hardly classifys him as a H-back. Pandre
At 6-3 and 208 ibs. I do not think that is a great build for a H-Back. He might have the speed but their is no way he has the durability to take the punishment at H-Back. Their is no need for him at half back anyways we have one of the top between the tackles backs and the best pass catching back in the league. The_Next_Big_Thing
Tab didn't play h-back, he was a wideout that lined up funky for one trick play. That's like saying that when Chris Perry splits out from the backfield and lines up as a wide receiver he is suddenly no longer a running back but a wideout. No, he's a running back split out to catch a pass.
Spain
Some of you guys need to learn what the H-back is, it is not half back. its a smaller TE lining up at full back then shifting in and out of pass run sets. To confuse the D. Even Kelley had a good game in that set. Could you imagine Tab playing in that set! Vicious. I expect Brat has his plans to get Tab on the field. Spain
They probably would help him in the scheme, but things must be black and white to you.
Kazkal
Umn how big is Tab?What blocking skills has he shown?Well from reports his blocking is good and might be one of reasons they only go 2 TE's
rishipatel
Spain might not be so far off on this one. On bengals.com it sounds like they are going to consider using him like this to get him on the field more, and to save a roster spot to be used elsewhere. One of the recent articles mentions it. chrishcovga
Call me old fashioned , but I would just like to get a " REAL " Tight end ! I don't want to hear all the talk about let's move this guy or that guy out of thier more natural position. How about we just draft or sign a " real " tight end. Cincinnati has had more than enough chances to draft some of the better tight ends coming out of college, but they passed on them again and again. Why?-Well ( WHY ) is a series or reasons all in themselves.1. Cincinnati doesn't use the Tight end very much. (WHY) Because we probably the deepest most athletic wide receivers in the game.2. Our offense uses the Tight end as a moving lineman. How many times have you seen Kelly, or Stewart go in motion and Cincy' run counters behind their blocking?? Yeah I know about a 1000 times.* Look, I'm not a Reggie Kelly fan, never was, I remember that he was the " 1st. Rounder " the Falcons gave up the year after they went to the Superbowl, and he washed out in Atlanta. He's a good blocker, but when it comes to playing the "reciever" he's good for 1 catch, and then he's hurt or dinged up for 2 weeks.* Why all the Fuss?? Tab Perry has good size, reliable hands, and has good blocking skills for a "WIDE RECEIVER". He's got a very promising career ahead of him as a return guy and 5th wide receiver. Why # 5...? Because there's these guys ahead of him called Chad Johnson,T.J.,Henry, and yeah Kelley Washington. I didn't like how Washington played in '04 either, but when on the field in '05 he played much better, and he's in another contract year after resigning for a year, so # 5 Tab Perry plays. It's a possession position that should at least catch the third and five reception over the middle. This is part of why I don't think Brat is that good of an OC. You can't expect the tight end to take balls away when you have so many other options. I'd love to see them cut the tight ends all together and run a set with an extra guard or tackle that is athletic enough to get downfield to block, pull, etc.
ShulaSteakhouse
Gimme a good TE any day of the week that a DB can't cover due to size issues. You also don't seem to understand that TE's are used to mask run/pass plays as a basic fundamental philosophy of football.IF TE's were so expendible - why in the hell does every NFL use them frequently? Are we saying as Bengalszone posters that we know more than every NFL coaching staff in the history of the game? Why would you not want someone who can block an extra pass rusher, or release and provide a pass catching option on the fly, depending on what a LB or DE or DB does? Carson does not throw many passes the TE's way on this team because they suck, period. But the fact that they are out there - forces the defense to accomodate them. That is the whole point. So as an offense you can dictate what you do better.Have you guys played football very much on a level higher than pee wee? Tab Perry is not a regular H-back or anything of the sort at 210 pounds - cmon.He may have ONE PLAY designed for him at the goal line, using him either as a decoy or a motion back for a shuffle pass etc.., - but that's it.Jesus people, stop the madness! (oh I forgot this was a Spain thread)
Spain
Lisen guys Tab is too talented to keep off the feild. His body type is hard to find. aka(shanon sharpe). The thing the broncs just planned for the fact that Sharpe wasnt going to run block well. So he cant come in on the power O. Other than that you could run one play with him at H-back. If you catch the D in a bad D, u go to the no huddle and abuse them.
Stripes
I agree that Tab is talented, Spain... but if he gets into the game for a play, someone has to leave it. The entire starting offense (including Reggie Kelly as a blocker), as well as about five guys behind the starters, are also too talented to be sitting the bench often.I wouldn't be against giving Tab a try at TE considering the lack of depth there, but he's not likely to play much no matter what position he plays. Old Thug
I'd like to see Tab as a blocking WR in 4th Qtr., along with 2nd TE of 1 of our backup O-Lineman. Use JJ & Rudi, Run to protect a lead and run out the clock. Roadgrade the opposing team's Defense!
Spain
he would be a good blocker on the power O, but the devils in the details,

He Blocked, and blocked very well. and He was about 40 lbs heavier than Tab Perry. He was just very muscular compared to soft guys you're more familiar with in Schobel, Kelly, and Stewart.
