BZBot
A tough decision is ahead for the Bengals – do they play Carson this pre-season or allow him to sit it out?Source: http://www.bengalszone.com/article.php?sid=
JaxonFord87
I think in order for Carson to play the opener, he would have to at least play the final preseason game, and maybe even the second to last.

GregCook
this is Rookie response night.my answer is I have no idea. Only Carson, Marvin and the medical staff can make that decision. my only thought is "don't screw up".Play Him
KenA
sit him for a month, go 2-2 or 1-3, then bring him back after the bye. the organization has already shown extreme patience when it comes to the question of playing palmer, and i bet we see chris henry on the field in the '06 regular season before cp. I'm no orthopedic surgeon, but I am a physician, and those extra few weeks can make a huge difference in the strength of his joint, whether or not he is physically capable of doing all that he needs to as a QB. I think that in the long run, having him continue rehab and practice without full contact until Week 5 is the best move. Wright should be able to get us to 2-2, even with the tough schedule. He still has all our other weapons. Then, CP can come in Week 6 and tear it up. Regardless, you know they'll do what they think is in the best interest of their investment in CP, so I guess time will tell.
BengalChamps
Pamper it! Dont be shortsighted. Lets see the big picture. Even if we go 1-3 in the first 4 games we can bounce back with CP!
Stripes
Play it. If he's on the field, then the risk of reinjury will not be a big worry. They won't let him out there if he isn't ready. They're talking about the preseason though, so I gotta assume he is.
HairOnFire
Well, let's see here. I'm hypothetically examining a badly injured knee from more than a thousand miles away. No matter, here's my professional doctor-like opinion. Ask Palmer if he's ready to go. If he says yes...quickly ask the real doctor for his opinion. If Palmer says no, he's not ready...immediately start blowing sunshine up Anthony Wrights patoot. Either way I'm sending some D-Con rat killer to the Detroit Lions. combatbengal
Why would you want to sit him for the 1st 3 games? We have KC, Pit and the Clowns. If we loose to the Clowns and Pit we've put ourselves in a huge hole! If he's able to play, play him. So far he looks great!
The_Next_Big_Thing
Give him the 1st quarter of the last two preseason games IF HE IS READY, and play him asap.
IckeyShuffle
Marvin has said all along that in order to start week #1, he'll need to play in 2 pre-season games. Leave it to the doctors and Carson for preseason game #3 to see if he can go. If he does, then on to preseason #4, no setbacks? Then he starts week #1 and we're gonna have a helluva season. ArmyBengal
Well, since I'm not a doctor but play one in the Army, I'll go with erroring on the side of caution with Carson if he and the doctors aren't 100% sure of his knee. We are talking about our franchise QB who just got a HUGE contract and the team CANNOT afford to have him out for the rest of this season because he was rushed back to soon. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see him be the man for the starter in KC, but once again, not knowing the whole situation, pamper would be a smarter way to go in the longterm...WHODEY !!! derekshank
They're easing him in right now, and he's showing no signs of slowing or taking steps in the wrong direction. When this first happened, remember how people scoffed at the idea that he'd be ready for training camp? Well, he vowed he would be, and here he is. He's not doing 2-a-days, but why should he? They're being as cautious as they can... and he's done this before, so it's not that big of a deal. The point is, there are no drills or practices or live-action reps that the other QB's are getting that he's not. He played ina real-life game speed scrimmage less than 7 months after his surgery. He's still got 5 more weeks to go before the opener. More than 3 weeks before the first pre-season game he'll need to play in. I really think he'll be ready to go. He's got a few more hurdles to jump, but I don't expect him to miss any of the regular season anymore.

You wont be saying that if he gets hurt in the pre-season and then he'll be out longr. You cant take chance's like that. But yeah we have to see how he's playing im just trying to say that he need's to make the decision if he think's he can play or not.
derekshank
After I had my knee reconstruction and I was up an running again, my trainer was far more concerned about me hurting my other leg because of favoring it rather than about a reinjury of my reconstructed knee. His knee has been repaired, and he been strengthening it. If he's out there playing in a scrimmage, then there isn't a huge risk of him hurting the same knee. They are easing him back, and that is wise. But the hurdle he needs to get past is getting hit again... and that is a mental hurdle, not a physical one.On another note: Palmer didn't play in the mock game on Saturday after playing in the scrimmage on Friday. That means he's had 2 days off. I think it will be interesting to see if they let him go for 2-a-days now.
HairOnFire
I see no reason for them to consider two a days. I'd give Palmer just enough reps to work the rust off...then have him spend the rest of his day working individually with trainers or doing film work with one of the coaches who can help rebuild his technique. Besides, the backups can use the work.

TJJackson
Give the backups some work. He has a long term contract with the Bengals and we need him healthy in the long term
rishipatel
Give the backups some work. He has a long term contract with the Bengals and we need him healthy in the long termExactly my sentiments. It looks like they've slowed down a bit in terms of rushing him back. It's a good thing not to be short-sighted, and they'll have plenty of time in the preseason to see what he can and can't do, especially in practice. HoTbOy
As good as everything sounds with CPalmer I would really like for the Bengals to bring him in after the bye week, if he/they feel he can play in KC then so be it and I would be ecstatic...but my feelings are to wait until the bye... BlueResident
Maybe ESteinbach is pissed about not getting contract extension, or maybe he was just relaxing on his boat catching fish and having a cold one who knows, with all the adversity that this team is going through now we must be destined to win the SB ...I want him to come back because I want to believe he can on the opener...but I agree, if it takes until the bye to get him back in there then so be it
