andybren
Photos : The Cincinnati Bengals Training Camp While other players were still moving in to camp the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Kelley Washington took part in a solo early workout. My take on KWash's brief history with the Bengals:2003: Drafted in the 3rd round. When TJ Houshmandzadeh is injured, KWash stumbles into the #3 WR job.2004: Peter Warrick is injured, allowing for other WR's to get playing time. KWash doesn't take advantage, remains #3 WR. Houshmandzadeh returns and becomes the permanent #2 WR, earns long-term contract extension.2005: Bengals draft Chris Henry. KWash gets demoted, doesn't seem to do anything to earn his job back. Is activated when Henry acquires his first arrest, but is deactivated for the Bengals' first playoff game in more than a decade. 2006: Nobody offers KWash a free agent contract. KWash decides to show up early for training camp.'Bout time.

We won't save any money doing it, and it's obvious he has the skills to beat out everybody, but Chad and TJ, on the roster. You can't cut a player for off the field troubles with the law, and I don't see the team coming up with a good reason they could go with to cut him. He's too good. That'd probably spell doom for Washington next year, but I think he makes the team either way.
JoePong
What do you mean by Washington getting the message? When has he ever been a problem? He's never done anything but work hard and play hard when he's gotten the chance. He's never had an attiutde problem and has continually said although he's disappointed he's not playing more he'll be ready to go whenever he's called upon. He feels he's good enough to start for some team in the NFL, yet he's never acted disgruntled and has never been a distraction.I don't get all this hatred from the fans toward the guy. Dadraftnick
K-Wash needs one thing reps,it takes a while for a WR to devolop.K-Wash looks like T.J. looked a couple of years ago, remember T.J.was almost cut.I think he will have better hands than McNeal,Kilmer, and Brazel none of which have ever started at WR in colleage.Remember, because of injurues K-Wash did not get much pt at Tenn. It's JoePong! What did the 'zone do to earn a visit from the huddles' resident gadfly? As for Kwash, "work and play hard" is a bit of an overstatement. It took him better than two season just to quit rounding off his routes. Whether the fans hate him or not (and any that do seem few to me) the Bengals were reportedly trying to trade him, even after Chris Henry started imploding. Personally, I'm glad to see he's apparently gotten a clue -- but given that he's on a team that maybe/maybe not wants him and he's in a contract year...well, let's just say showing up as a bright eyed and bushy tailed squirrel doesn't surrpise me. JoePong
They were trying to trade him not because he was a problem, but because they are so loaded at the WR position and Washington would obviously like to go somewhere that he would have an opportunity to play more. If the bengals could provide him that opportunity and get something in return-why not?
andybren
If KWash "worked hard and played hard" he'd be our #2 WR right now. Sure, WR's need playing time to develop, but as I noted in my original post, KWash had more opportunities than most (due to injuries to PDub and TJ) to earn that playing time. And what did KWash do with those opportunities?I don't hate KWash, I just don't think he's lived up to his billing. He's a former 3rd round pick who, last year, was beat out by two 7th round picks (TJ and Kevin Walters) and a 6th round pick (Tab), as well as a rookie 3rd round pick (Henry) who probably had as much experience coming into the league as KWash did. So the better question might be why I don't hate KWash. Why trade KWash? Because we don't need him, and somebody might be convinced he has value.Incidentally, it turns out KWash is recovering from a hamstring injury, which may explain the extra workout. So the jury's still out on his new work ethic.
HairOnFire
Holy hand grenades, Batman! It's JoePong! What did the 'zone do to earn a visit from the huddles' resident gadfly? Haven't you heard? The Huddles board imploded. The moderation got so heavy handed, and there were so many banishment casualties, that there's been a mass exodus. Apparently Joe Pong has wandered into the zone from the desert. Phoenix, I think.

No, Pong's right. There's a level of hatred directed at K-Dub that is hard to understand. His work ethic has never really been questioned that I know of, but his route running and lack of speed into and out of breaks has been. That said, the coaches have always been quick to say that K-Dub has worked hard on improving his routes, and if he isn't a quick twitch athlete then it's the Bengals who are to blame for drafting the wrong type of player. You don't blame the athlete for what he isn't capable of doing.
The_Next_Big_Thing
Henry is going nowhere unless he's going to jail. It doesn't matter what he's done off the field, but rather what he's done on the field. Unfortunately we can't cut him for being a dopey dufus! His best chance at making the team as a gunner on STs though.
JoePong
Kevin Walter and Tab Perry were not ahead of Washington as WRs. They were just acitivated ahead of KW because of their abilities on special teams. That being said, I think Perry is going to be an excxellent WR as well. T.O. is a pro bowler and the Iggles couldn't throw him out fast enough. Like I said earlier, I'm more than fine with Henry and KW being cut. I'm ready to ride with Brazell the Gazelle, Slash McNeal, and Speedy Chatman.

T.O. is a pro bowler and the Iggles couldn't throw him out fast enough.I don't think Henry is quite the distraction to our Bengals as T.O. became for the Eagles. His presence on the team was causing real harm to the team's ability to win games... I don't think that's the case with Henry. K-dub might get the boot based on talent alone, considering all the hype about Brazell.
ArmyBengal
OH, I love the new guys we have, but I think T.O.'s issues were on the field as well as off and a non-dumbass Henry would be a sight to see progress in front of our eyes !!!WHODEY !!!
