Dadraftnick
Odel is looking more and more like Ricky Williams did last year, like he would rather stay at home and get high than play in the NFL.With Williams, one of the problems was he new if he were to come back that he would test positive again so,instead he just retired. I am hearing that Thurman's drug of choice may not be Mary Jane but, a hard drug(such as meth or crack) which people are saying that he may never get past, I hope that that is not true because Odel has the makings of an All Pro.If you read the coments of Marvin today it looks like he has about had it with him. This is form Pro Football Talk:THURMAN DONE WITH FOOTBALL?As a torrent of rumor and innuendo continues to swirl around Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman, we're getting the distinct impression that the kid might never play football again. At a bare minimum, he's not likely (in our opinion) to play this season.Thurman already has been suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the substance abuse policy, and based on some of the things we've heard we think the penalty could have been more severe. Because the obligation to submit to testing continues, it still could be.And as further evidence to support our belief that coach Marvin Lewis is reaching (or beyond) the breaking point regarding the actions -- and ensuing scrutiny of -- his in-house butthole patrol, Lewis offered a string of contradictory sound bites on Saturday when asked about the failure of Thurman to report for training camp."It's a non-factor. We expect him here. If you want to be in charge of him you're welcome,” Lewis said. “He's dealing with some things with his family and they'd asked if he was allowed to do this. There's no pressing need for him to be here." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The guy form pft keeps implying that Thurmans actions go beyond the normal positive test for Mary Jane and when he broke the story about Thurman he acted as though he would get more than 4 games which is standard fot a 2nd failed test. Why would he expect Thurman to get more than 4 games? Maybe he would if it were a hard drug.Anyway ,Thurman's action look like a guy that is not reporting because he knows that he will test dirty again and be gone for the year.If that is the case I doubt that pot is that hard to stay away from and the rumors may be true,I hope not. HoosierCat
Marvin (from the site)..."We'll have somebody probably play there [MLB] for the season,” Lewis said. “We're not going to worry about a guy that's not here, or a guy that's not a part of our football team.”I think that pretty much says it all...what a bloody waste. Still, I prefer this kind of wasted pick more so than the old fashioned Akili Smith, David Klinger, Ki-jana Carter way we used to do it. Someone better get Ahmad Brooks to a church ASAP.

schweinhart
I like Brooks as our MLB in the 4-3. Brooks has more speed and size. I'm not sure that Brooks has Thurman's instincts for being in the right place for turn overs, but I like Brooks' athletic ability.IF Thurman comes back, I really like the idea of Thurman and Brooks in the middle in a 3-4.Back to Marvin's comments -- the one that really told me that there is a problem is when Marvin offered to let the reporters try and handle Thurman. Brooks has to prove a lot quick if he's going to get that shot as MLB before the 2nd half of the season. I would guess he won't win the spot and only chores the middle if there's an injury to either B-Simms or Landon or either of them performs poorly. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brooks coming off the edge if the Bengals use some 3-4 but doubt again that he'll beat out Pollack for rushing off the edge in the nickel. Now that Madieu is back, the Bengals should have some more flexibility in rushing 5 and we could see Brooks in on that too. IMO, his greatest strength for a while is going to be his pass rush off the edge but he should be a force in the middle vs. the run in due time. What they'll miss in Thurman is his ungodly quick lateral pursuit and the depth he can get to in coverage quickly plus his knack to jump routes and play the ball. Odell also shot gaps like a ton of bricks and we'll see how willing or able Simmons is to collide with RBs in the backfield.Odell is a major disappointment. Maybe for next year's draft the Bengals steer clear of players early who got the rap for being asshololics.
ckj414
Couple of weeks ago i started a thread about Richard Skinner reporting that Odell might be out all year. Skinner might know what he was talking about. So what is the truth about Odell? Why are journalist in town not reporting what they know about Odell? Why are they keeping it a secret? I don't know, but I'm sure if he had to deal with the New York media we'd already know what he's smoking and who he's smoking it with. And it sure sounds like he's smoking something to be sure... I'm looking around to see if I can find who said it and what exactly they said...

He will only get better, but ML has sent the message with AJ and Brooks. You screw around and there is someone just as good as you right behind you. Nice to be able to say that about Bengal's depth....
ArmyBengal
I'm one of the people who asked for a link to the report instead of just posting "rumors". The remarks by Marvin are more than indicative of what's going on with Odell. That's what I was looking for when this was first posted. As for Odell, I'll play the wait and see mostly because I'm still pretty OK with our LB corps. However, you can't help but be upset with his lack of direction and the fact that one more positive test equals him being gone for a whole season. Sad..WHODEY !!!
