Jet23
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...0342/1066/SPT02When poor judgment starts costing us games (Odell) I care. Other than that, I could give a rats ass what anyone else thinks of the Bengals. The only worthwhile statement in Daugherty’s ramblings was the following: ‘It's about finding tough-guy players who, when a Steeler or Raven busts them in their mouths, will bust back twice as hard. Guys like Odell Thurman.’ True Dat! The NFL is a street fight. If Joey Porter and Kimo Von Knee Capper are standing in front of me, in a dark alley, I want Odell Thurman by my side, not John flipping Kitna. For an entire decade we have been the laughing stock of the NFL. Now, we are ready to start bitch slapping some people and they don’t like it.I have also been a UC fan my entire life, so I am used to the whole University of Criminal crap spewed by the Xavier squirrels. If they want to call us criminals that is fine, but let in be in the context of ‘the Criminals just kicked the crap out of us on Sunday’. The Chicken Littles (thanks hair) will be cheering Brooks when he makes his first pro bowl.

buck3y3d
The character issues are a reflection of the city. When I think of Oakland, I think the Raiders and the stereotypes that go with it. When I think Cleveland, I think of the Browns. The problem with the character issues is that they do cause problems in the locker room. Missing 4 games is a big problem on the field. Henry will miss at least 1 game and probably more. These are problems. I'm tired of hearing about problems, but I want them to stop happening, rather than us stop talking about them. When I say "so many", I'm referring to not only the people on this board but the majority of players and ex-players that have tried to explain it. PEOPLE JUST LIKE TO B*TCH !!! What would half the people do if they didn't have something to complain about ?? Just like TO, stop talking about it, and it will go back to the way it has been forever...WHODEY !!! By "the way they were", I mean, these problems have always existed and most never hear about it. When there is nothing else to talk about (or sell magazines or give reason to tune into ESPN) anything will be discussed and "character" seems to be the "soup of the day", so to speak. I'm merely suggesting that when this stops being discussed, people will go back to talking about what really matters and that is what happens on the field. When we are winning, does anyone think the character discussion is going to be the "hot topic" ?? I think not. I think the players (usually) care about what people think of them -- almost as much as they care about getting paid -- sounds like even TO feels that way from the bits I've seen of his new book. Maybe if the rookies with "character concerns" see that they won't get carte blanche from the fans, they'll realize that Chris Henry-style behavior is NOT ACCEPTABLE -- something Henry does not seem to realize. ArmyBengal
Well, I'm of the concept that what good does it do anyone to b*tch about something they can't do anything about or control ?? Ok, people are concerned about the "character concerns" of the organization, fine... What are they going to do about it ?? Not buy season tickets ?? Not buy a jersey ?? Well, to that I say, good luck as I'm sure there will be someone else more than happy to get those seats and wear that jersey !!! I'm not saying that makes it right, I'm just saying that's the way it is...WHODEY !!!
rwalling
Daugherty's completely right on target only he doesn't go far enough...- all of our heroes should be convicts, thugs, drug addicts and criminals- we should hold only violent, angry men up to our sons and daughters as role models... and make sure they get paid millions for this behavior- character doesn't matter, winning at all costs does- to hell with teamwork, whoever has the best gimmick and catches the most headlines should be the most successful and highly compensated (no, I love Chad, he's both, I'm making a point)What was that thread before "when bad behavior leads to bad journalism" - UGHAm I the only one that still remembers Bengals teams that made fun of the goons in Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Oakland and beat them by being a stronger, more disciplined, smarter TEAM?!? Another sign of civilization in decline... sigh

HairOnFire
The other half of that fanbase? Smiling happy bastards without a care in the world. Yep, just like Forrest Gump. Wow, I guess that movie was over your head. Watch it again and you'll see that Forrest rarely smiles and carries emotional baggage with him everywhere he goes. First he's teased by other kids, then he's troubled by the things Jenny tells him about her father, then it's the troubling things he experiences in college, then it's off to war, dealing with the death of Bubba, dealing with the near death of Lt. Dan, dealing with Dan's drunken depression, dealing with the death of Momma, running for years until he's physically exhausted and emotionally drained, then dealing with the death of Jenny, and finally...worrying that he's not smart enough to raise Lil' Forrest. That whole movie is an angst-fest. Try again.

I mean what more could bad character guys want than an audience of "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" people? If anything, putting all their behaviors out on the table like this, may help to turn them around, and it shows kids out there how truly assclownish their behaviors are. Army you don't believe there is anything we can do to correct how these guys act, but believe it or not what we are doing right now does make a difference. Discussing this on here in front of some of the younger people on this board and even some of the older people on this board brings to light some of the morals of society. Sadly though, some people on this board close their eyes to these problems because the Bengals made the play-offs last year. Well this is this year and they haven't won (nor lost) a game yet since these problems have arisen. So to say these problems won't hurt the team and blast every journalist with an opinion puts you in the same boat as them. Fact is these problems are bad for the team, whether we know yet how bad they will affect them when the season starts or not. Let's not take the stance that we just ignore them because they happen, and set a bad example for future generations. Do you leave your doors unlocked at night just because burglaries happen? Do you just leave the keys in your car because cars get stolen? I doubt it because I don't think you are that dumb. So let's not ignore the fact we have asshats in our community playing for the Bengals.

(See bold underlined area above) I said the following...This is not to diminish the problem that exists or the effect on the team. How do you get that I said that these problems won't hurt the team ?? I also never said that by ignoring the problem, that it would go away. I said the following...Except the fact that it has always been there and it always will.Saying it will always by there is far from saying it would go away correct ?? I also don't disagree with the fact that it's a positive thing to discuss, I said that people take it to d*mn far. If there is a problem, address it and move the f*ck on. To continue to harp on something, that you have no direct solution to gets very VERY redundant. Like I said, if after all your complaining and offered valid reasons of discontent are still ignored, please feel free to not buy anymore tickets and turn in your jersey. That is ALSO something that can be done to show your displeasure with the organization. My only argument to doing that is there will be someone to come right in behind you and pick up where you left off regardless. ONCE AGAIN, this does not make it right, it's just the way it is. I'm asking again for people to stop justifying their argument by saying I said something I didn't. Hell, better than half the time I agree with everything being said, just disagree with how it's being handled. Have a good one !!!WHODEY !!!
