schnarfer
according to a close source with the bengals organization, Mike Brown was speaking of his disgust over the recent media portrayal of the bengals...He then went on to say how dissapointed he was that odell has failed more than one drug test...This is no joke and I wish it wasnt rue but it does look like we will be without odell for at least 4 games this season... HoTbOy
Man I hope that this is not true, it seems like every one of those questionable picks has done something...the PFT guy said something was going on with him months ago...if this turns out to be true maybe MLewis will draft choir boyz from now on...so we will wait and see what happens... HoTbOy
AB that is true I am glad that we have him, and he was the MLB when NWebster went down, but all these questionable picks getting in trouble is worrisome...hopefully this is nothing and OThurman will be our starter when the season starts... ArmyBengal
Not only did Landon take over, he led the team in tackles that year, so while I'd rather have Odell if I were picking, Landon is more than adequate depth and I'm glad he's there !!!WHODEY !!! derekshank
I'm expecting a 4 gamer, and I don't see that as a huge deal. Odell was very good last year... but was probably a bit over-rated. He made a lot of mistakes. We have enough depth to deal with the first month without him. We were talking about still making the playoffs without Palmer for the first 4 games. Odell isn't as important as Palmer. If he's out for the season, well that would hurt, because we don't have that much depth, but I'm not expecting that to happen. It's pretty rare for a player to get a full year without first receiving a 4 gamer. He'd have to be one of the dumber guys in the NFL (I'm talking Chris Henry stupid) to fail enough drug tests in the offseason to get a full year. Anyway, Landon is fine. Simmons is practicing at MLB so Landon can play OLB (which I really like the idea of). Regardless... worst case scenario is we have to play Landon Johnson more. Worse things have happened.I question the source... but there was a report that the Denver punter was suspended for 4 games. The source was someone close to the punter. The NFL hasn't released the suspensions yet, and the appeal process hasn't begun either, so it sounds possible. Right now it's a guessing game, and one that I'm getting a little bored with. We'll find out when we find out.

It's just too disruptive to discover that, in addition to injuries, you lose two starters (I'm counting Henry) to suspensions/jail, and two more draft picks are arrested. Assuming this latest one is true. However, I'm still waiting to see confirmation from *anyone* on this Odell bit. Where did this latest "story" come from? For Chrissakes, PFT won't even come out and claim this one.

bengalboomer7
This has already been cleared up I thought. I'll go look fo the text, but I'm nearly positive those personal reasons were for some charity work Odell was doing, and Marvin excused him for it. I'll try and go find the text and Bengals.com. I'll try and go find the text and Bengals.com.You sure you're not thinking of this?Thurman misses another practice.(Associated Press) AP - 07/05/06By Paul Myfinger, StaffwriterMarvin Lewis announced this morning that star linebacker Odell Thurman missed this mornings practice, and may miss all practices held this week, due to demands placed upon the young player by his Christian missionary work. Thurman's whereabouts were finally revealed earlier in the week when an unrelated CBS news story included photos of Thurman feeding crab cakes and blueberry pancakes to starving babies in Darfur. Coach Lewis told reporters that he was proud of his young player and unconcerned about his repeated absence from the voluntary and informal practices. "He knows his role and he knows the scheme. We'd love to have him here right now, but we respect what he's doing and we know when the time comes he'll come back in time to join his fellow players in whatever crime spree they happen to be on at that given moment."AP/WorldnetAs much as I'd like it to be true, I'm afraid this little gem comes straight from the ingeniously twisted imagination of our own Hair On Fire... Landon is a good l/b and very capable of playing that position well . but with Simmons age he would likely get moved over to middle and Landon would take his spot . Simmons can play that position well also.
BengalByTheBay
Okay, I'll play too. Losing OT would seriously suck. This guy was really developing and to lose games at this point would be a big blow. We do not have another natural MLB at this point. Yes, Landon and BS have played the position and would hold down the fort, but the loss of continuity would kind of stunt the growth of the unit as a whole when it really needs to start making strides forward. Compared to the (probable) loss of Henry for an indeterminate time, this would be more significant I believe. This waiting for the other shoe to drop stuff blows.
