derekshank
I just read Hobson's latest e-mail question/answer article, and he mentioned that Andrews has been getting reps at guard. Whether or not this is an attempt to eventually replace Steinbach... I gotta say I like the idea. He's obviously not really working out as a starting tackle of the future, so why not try him other places. He's defintely got size and strength... and is incredibly quick for his size. Imagine that 340 lb frame playing the guard position, and neutralizing the big DT's in this division. If we can't manage to get Bach re-signed, this is a good idea for a possible replacement. The real question will be if he has the heart to run block.
kingwilly
How about a freaking DT/DE????I mean, we have guards, centers who can play guard and tackles who can play guard, as well as guards who can play tackle. What we DON"T have is a big monster pshycho who can get REAL pressure on the QB....if he is this quick, this big, this unbelievably athletic, then let him bull-rush the F out of an opposing OT and sack the crap out of some QB's.... They had him take a few reps at DT last year when Robinson was hurt, and it appears that he didn't really make much of the chance. I think it's pretty clear that Andrews doesn't have the mean streak to try to battle other big men and get past them to get to the QB. It's not as important in pass blocking... although might be pretty important for run blocking - which is why I still have to question him as a player. It's still an interesting experiment no matter how you slice it.
Oldcat
Try him at TE.Would be fun to see the safety try and take him down if he ever caught one.

walshfan
Arent guards supposed to be shorter because if leverage?I allways thought guards to be 6'3 or 6'4 but maybe times have changed. It seems that a guy 6'7" would have a hard time getting under the pads of a DT .He better have good technique. Then again Steinbach is 6'6" and he gets it done.
Wraith
It's not just for leverage but guards also should be shorter so the QB has better lanes for passing up the middle. All that being said, I wouldn't mind seeing Stacey at LG though I would much rather see Steiny get resigned.

derekshank
we pull alot...we need steinbach for it...its his best attribute. We pull a lot, because it is Steiny's best attribute. You do what your players do best. We are trying to re-sign him... but we have to be careful to not spend all our money on offense. You can't have a Pro-bowler at every position and maintain it. If we can't get Steiny re-signed, we'll find a decent replacement. If Andrews is that guy, I'm sure we'll be happy to have such a great pass blocker next to Levi protecting Carson's blindside. If we get Steiny re-signed, that's even better.
HairOnFire
Here's my take. Andrews isn't impressing as a tackle. He's so raw that even when he's mauling his opponent he's blocking as an individual, not as a player working within a unit. He rarely considers where his fellow blockers are in relation to himself, and whether blasting ahead or slowly giving ground his unawareness creates gaps and holes that defenders leak through to blow up a play. (Watch the KC game.) So you slide him inside to guard where the action is closer, the defenders are a tick slower, and it's easier to keep track of your fellow blockers. Hopefully he quickly developes a feel for working within a unit instead of individually banging away on the edge. If he "get's it" you can then slide him back outside with more confidence. If not, he stays inside where other blockers can help compensate for his lack of experience. This is my theory. --- Ann Elk
ArmyBengal
I just think it sucks having a guy with this size and athleticism be a non-factor outside of depth. I know he was an experimental type guy, but boy would I love for him to realize his potential !!! Oh yeah, how is someone's THAT big and not have a little bit of a nasty streak in them ?? I'm all of 5'7 and have a nasty streak, what gives ??WHODEY !!!

HairOnFire
Outrageous size won't help you if you don't know what you're doing. The only game I've seen recently where the Dancing Bear gets any time in the center ring is the Chief game, and on several plays Andrews can be seen tossing guys aside or burying them with ease. Trust me, there wasn't anything wrong with his mean streak. But it sometimes doesn't do the RB any good if you're killing a guy 5 yards downfield and another defender leaks between you and the trailing guard. Watch the Chief game and you'll see running plays that worked all season long get blown up in the backfield simply due to poor spacing. kingwilly
I remember some of the plays, since NFL network has been re-running the recap show of our KC tilt. Andrews did level some people. Your assesment of him needing to work in the scheme is dead on. Without a cohesive scheme and the peiople to run it, this line would suck. If Andrews can't grasp and execute the scheme, then he would do well to either become an Ultimate Fighter or join the WWF.
Dadraftnick
I think he would be a hell or a guard .But, I would rather see him at DT
