bengal4life Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 I guess in the updated article an article in a St. Louis newpaper said the bengals only get a pick if Ragone makes the team. If I read it right. Quote
schweinhart Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Pretty good op for Ragone to see stick action given Bulger's bum shoulder and Frerotte's age. Guess Linehan liked what he had in Ragone enough in Louisville to give him a shot if he can beat out Fitzpatrick and Smoker. Can't imagine the Rams letting go of more than a 7th or else they probably would have claimed Ragone off waivers.Bengalswise, it's good to get an extra draft pick so long as Carson don't go down because the likes of Anthony Wright or Doug Johnson trying to advance the team to or into the playoffs should cause some shudders. Hopefully, Meyer has shown them enough to warrant a trade like this of a QB who is better than the vet backups they have. Quote
HairOnFire Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 I guess in the updated article an article in a St. Louis newpaper said the bengals only get a pick if Ragone makes the team. If I read it right. Sounds reasonable. A conditional pick isn't as attractive, but it's a pretty good sign that after showing what he could do the coaching staff decided Ragone wasn't going to make the Bengals roster. So if they get something of value, great. And if not....((shrug)) BTW, I used to argue with a guy on the huddles board named OSUFTB, or something like that, who often claimed that Ragone was a much better QB prospect than Palmer. To make matters worse he also ran the board mock draft that year. No kidding, when the time came he quickly traded out of the top spot, later picked Texas DE Cory Redding with the 1st round pick he got in trade, and then drafted Ragone in the 2nd. Most people thought he was a genius. I wasn't one of them. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 I also can't see why there is so much faith in Johnson ?? It's hard to shine up a turd !!!WHODEY !!!Hey, when was the last time we had a guy named Johnson on the squad who didn't do a pretty good job when he was on the field? That alone is probably a good enough reason to have enough faith in this guy to ride the bench as an emergency, inactive, 3rd string QB! It's not like we expect him to play. If that is the case, then I'll be more than happy, but there is no way ANYONE here could be excited with the prospect of have Doug Johnson be the only option to keep things together if something were to happen to either Carson or Wright... Please let me know if you are comfortable with that situation given the schedule we face this year. I just don't see Johnson as anything more than a non factor...WHODEY !!! Quote
Dadraftnick Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 BAD MOVE !!!! I promise you that Ragone was the best QB on the team other than Carson .He just lit up the NFL europe.Johnson sucks straight up -- he's not good enough for Cleveland Wright is the human interception machine --more interceptions than touchdowns!!!Dont you think if there was any talent in Wright at all he would be in Baltimore ????They just traded to get 89 year old,bag of broken bones Steve McNair because of the lack of talent at QB.I read on Bengals.com where it said that now they can put Eric Myer on the Practice Squad -they could have anyway I think Ragone has played too long to be eligable enless he got some extra time for his NFLEurope time Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Casey Bramlett thrived in NFLE also, where's he at?Hobson had it right, just bad timing. Our backup QB position is so up in the air, they didn't have time for Ragone because he's a few months behind Johnson and Wright. Quote
Dadraftnick Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 I am not saying that he is better than Carson or anything like that I am saying that he was the best hope we had other than Carson.Jon Kitna came to everybodys attention by litting it up in NFLEurope and look where he is at --That makes no sense to point out somebody that didnt make it as though it proves it means nothing to do well in the NFLEurope--I tell you one thing I would rather have someone that has done well than someone that has not.My assesment of Ragone is watching him play. He has it And even if he doesn't he is still better than Wright and Johnson Quote
HairOnFire Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 My assesment of Ragone is watching him play. He has it Wasn't Clara Bow the "It Girl"? Or was it Mary Pickford? No matter, they're both dead now...making them undoable. The only real question that needs to be asked is how likely is it that Dave Ragone manages to make the Rams roster, because if he doesn't he'll prove his worth was absoluetly nothing to the Texans, Bengals, and then the Rams. I'd put his odds at 40/60. Quote

I'd put his odds at 40/60.I'd have to agree a little with both here. Ragone has shown relatively recently that he can play, at least he did in the dark underbelly of the NFL in Europe. 2 qualities he showed there -- week in and week out last year -- was a rifle of an arm for intermediated routes and great decision making in protecting the ball. Any time a QB throws 174 straight passes w/o a pick even at that level it does show he has some knack for not making the kind of mistakes that have characterized Anthony Wright's NFL career. But he's Ra-gone as it is and now all that matters is whether or not he sticks with the Rams thus giving the Bengals an extra draft pick. He'll have to most likely beat out Fitzpatrick for the 3rd spot and Fitzpatrick looked like the 2nd coming of Vince Ferragamo at least for 1 game last year. The salary difference between the 2 will be a disadvantage for Ragone. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 The Rams also have Jeff Smoker out of Michigan State on their roster. I haven't kept up with him, so this might be like saying they have Ryan Leaf back from the depths of sh*tty QB hell !!!WHODEY !!! Quote

Fact of the matter is, Wright has way more NFL snaps under his belt, has already shown he's an adequate backup, while ragone has not. Your about the only one that's seen ragone play, but all of us have seen Wright play in the NFL.I remember(can't remember if it was last year or the year before) when Wright replaced Boller because of injury, and everyone was happy Boller was in there and not Wright.
