...this alludes to a learning disability...as in not learning the lessons from a Henry...

We could have taken so many other players around where Mr. District Attorney was taken...it makes me very disappointed in the ML staff at this point.

Gaither...Babatunde...Anderson...Stanley...Peprah... what a waste..

Hey Marvin...we don't get a mulligan because a guy gets busted! There are no "do-overs" in the draft...

Nicholson has to be the most perfect example of why to stay away from the real "character-issues" players....if this does not straighten out the bengals staff, then ML just lost my support.

Nice response. Clearly well thought out.

Correction, though....YOU don't care about the state of my support in light of these recent events. Since that is your opinion...great. I doubt ML gives a rats AZZ about what i think and I don't care that he wouldn't care. But given the emerging pattern of poor judgement as to the issue of character and statements showcasing how important it is to him, it begs the question of hypocrisy, from draft room to press room, as in say one thing, do another.

I think the Bengals and the NFL worry about fan support. It is what puts the NFL on TV...jersey's on peoples backs and money in the players pockets. It is what has parlayed the NFL into the pre-eminent sport league in the world. To look at the issues

Hmmm...I don' think I'll find another team...but if all this continutes, there may be some Benglas staff who may be finding another team.

I will always support the Bengals...regardless of coach/players/etc. What I won't limit is expressing my opinion to only when things are happy or positive.

Come on people, this is a farce.

First off, it's too early to tell if there is anything to this. The article states that a guy with bigger problems, who was kicked off the team and obviously has issues fingered A.J. AFTER HE WAS DRAFTED, when he was caught. Lets see, could it be that if he drags AJ into this, who now has resources as a member of the NFLPA that can help him, he stands a better chance of getting off?

Or perhaps Rouse is just PISSED OFF because he ruined his own career potential for the NFL by getting himself kicked off the team and thought AJ should have been kicked off too. After all Rouse was a fantastic freshman, one of the best in the nation before he was unable to find a home on a team in the NCAA!

Lets face it, there has been no evidence presented other than testimony of someone else who came out and confessed that he did it that AJ has anything to do with this. Lets see how it pans out before we convict him in the court of opinion.

In a lame attempt at objectivity, King, I think that what people are objecting to is what appears to be your overreaction -- "worst draft ever". These things suck and they happen to every team. Your calling out of ML is reasonable under the circumstances and recent team history. However, I don't think it means the draft was horrible -- we'll just have to wait & see what comes of all this. People judge these things differently as evidenced by the several prior threads after the draft. Your opinion is legitimate and, I am quite sure, shared by many other fans. For myself, I think that primary responsibility for these things lands squarely on the player himself and only secondly on the coaches for picking them. I think the staff feels like they can make these very fine determinations about who they can control and who they can't. The misses end up being pretty high profile.

Well said. I agree with Kingwilly about many points he's brought up...iand I share much of his disappointment with Lewis's decision to give lip service to his own remarks about drafting for character. But the fact remains that Nicholson was a 2nd or 3rd round talent who slipped to the end of the 5th round due to his criminal past, and I just can't trash an entire draft based upon anything a 5th round pick does. Simply put, I've got almost no complaints with any of the 1st day picks.

As for AJ, if the blood is tested and is proven to be his, and I'm betting that it is, then I'm perfectly fine with the idea of never offering him a contract.

I totally agree, if he's CONVICTED, I'm fine with not offering him a contract and just cutting him loose. However, my bet is the blood that was tested led to locating Rouse, who confessed.

You knew this was coming...

From PFT:

BENGALS DRAFT PICK WANTED FOR BURGLARY

Joe Schad of ESPN.com reports that former Florida State linebacker A.J. Nicholson, selected by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2006 draft, is wanted for two felonies and a misdemeanor after allegedly stealing $1,700 in electronics equipment from the home of a current Florida State player.

Said a league source in response to the news: "A.J. Nicholson, off most teams' draft boards, a major league turd . . . . Way to go, Marvin."

Both Nicholson and former Seminole receiver Fred Rouse, who was dismissed from the team at the end of the 2005 season, have been charged with burgling the home of running back Lorenzo Booker.

Rouse confessed to the crime on May 28 after a receiving glove with his jersey number stitched into it was found at the scene. (Gee, and we thought he'd gone to FSU on an academic scholarship.) Rouse has implicated Nicholson in the incident, which occurred on May 20.

A warrant has been issued for Nicholson's arrest. He faces charges of felony burglary of a dwelling, felony grand theft, and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

As one league source told us on April 29 after the Bengals drafted Nicholson and USC defensive end Frostee Rucker, "What the f--- are they doing? Rucker and Nicholson? Give me a break. They are sabotaging the organization by picking bad players like [Odell] Thurman, [Chris] Henry, and those two."

Earlier this year, Henry was arrested in Florida for allegedly pointing a gun at a group of people, an offense that carries a three-year mandatory minimum sentence.

Our suggestion? Bengals owner Mike Brown should move the team to Florida, and hope that enough of Marvin's misfits will qualify for work release.

Really, I could care less if Nicholson or Henry or Frostee Rucker or whoever the hell else on this team is a felon or trouble-maker or head case, as long as they can play football at a high level. Despite the league-wide lip service paid to good character, its all about winning. If a dumbass like Nicholson can stay out of jail and make this team better, I'll be glad he's wearing Bengal stripes. Look at Chris Henry. The best rookie WR in the league last year. Explosive, fast, good hands and willing to make the catch in traffic over the middle. And apparently an incorrigible and irresponsible nitwit. I don't care how many guns he waves on a saturday night as long as he's ready to play on Sunday. Obviously, if these guys keep this up they'll be in jail or on suspension, and not on the field. Until then, it moves me not at all.

First of all, I don't care to root for criminals, nice standards there you must have. Would you root for a rapist? A wife beater? Cmon.

Secondly, if they're always in trouble and missing games (if not seasons) what's the point?

The NFL suspends criminals, and they are not reliable, consistent, or productive players.

There are reasons every other team passes on these guys.

This is exactly why. Not worth the risk of wasting picks and roster spaces for these idiots.

All that said, I will wait until he's actually indicted and/or charged formally before passing final judgement I suppose.
