Stripes
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9442718I tried to quote it, but the format is all goofy.Long story short...Steelers - 1Bengals - 18Ravens - 21Browns - 28You can guess the caption and it's reference to Palmer... Cincinnati Bengals Why so low? It's the Carson Palmer factor. He suffered his knee injury just five month ago. When will he be ready? If he can't play for a month or so, this team is in big trouble. The_Next_Big_Thing
I'll take that. Fortunately it looks like Carson will be ready for game 1.
HoTbOy
I read that last night and said to myself that he has an awful lot of respect for CPalmer, because even if he doesn't play the first 4-6 games, we are better than 18, I really believe that with the offseason and draft...I used to look at their picks last season, and he would always have us losing more that the other guys...so I think he has some kind us bias against us... Kazkal
aye if we start out 2-2 we could still easilly end up 10-6 or 12-

BengalByTheBay
I guess the sportsfan's appetite for this kind of stuff is really to blame (myself included) -- but since when did this cottage industry of predictions and rankings and listings turn into something that people actually pay attention to. AZ last year was going to blow everybody's doors off according to most projections. The Rats were going to be able to actually field a team worthy of playing in the NFL -- how'd that work out. Not to say all of these guys are wrong -- somebody's gotta get it right just due to the law of averages. But, damn, what is the value of Prisco's power rankings when they change every week during the season anyway??? Hell, I remember when the Bengals were the "sleeper" pick and they went out and posted 2-14. Okay, got that off my chest.
Stripes
I don't think anybody ever really puts any stock in power rankings as though they spoke of the NFL heirarchy to exact or even close to exact accuracy. They're just fun to read through.
ShulaSteakhouse
The Bengals' have a brutal schedule. Without Palmer they are not a playoff caliber team next year. Anthony Wright? Doug Johnson? Yikes. 10th, 18th, 28th, whatever...w/no Palmer there's no winning record.I think the same goes for a team like Indy w/o Manning. (although he's one of the biggest chokers I've ever seen in my life)

kingwilly
I'm sorry but this almost this same team, with lame-ass, weak-armed Kitna at the helm went 8-8, then 8-8 and almost made the playoffs....this team is better now, on O, D, and ST...without Palmer this team is in the wild-card hunt and with him they take the AFC Norse and roll. Spain
This is why fans like us can make money, Cincy still has a stigma attached to it. Cash in boys Im putting a hundred to win it all. Im 20-1. Even if Palmer doesnt start Kitna could win with this team. Not to mention in the first three games the O is behind the D. At the begining of the season the Power O will win those games. Not to mention the D is better and more eperienced. IMHO
Who?
The Bengals at 18 and the Browns at 28? That's kinda ridiculous. The Bengals should make another playoff run, and there's teams like Tennessee, Houston, and Green Bay that are ranked above the Browns? Those power rankings weren't very good.. derekshank
I wanted to make a post regarding the Steelers, but didn't want to start a new thread... so this one will have to do, since Prisco has them ranked #1.I'm in my car a lot throughout a normal day, so I listen to a lot of ESPN radio on and off. Today I heard a guy (I think it was Pasquarelli) talking about the Steelers, and he thinks they are in big trouble. Hines Ward bitching about a 1st round WR pick and complaining to the media about being pissed at Cowher, the loss of Bettis, the loss of Randle El... but he thought the defense was where they were really in trouble. Losing Kimo, losing Hope, and get this... Joey Porter might hold out! The report is that he's having a knee surgery done so he'll have an excuse to not show up to training camp. The Steelers upper-management never give in to this sort of thing... and Joey has a lot of pride, and I think is making less than $4 mil this year. If this is true, it could last a while, and become a decent sized distraction. Their chances to repeat are seeming less and less likely to me every day, given that they weren't the best team last year, and have taken several steps back this off-season. bengal4life
good post shank. That would be great if Porter was out for the first month of the season because of knee surgery.
