ShulaSteakhouse Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Video HighlightsNot sure if this has been posted yet here.I still think he's a better WR possibly - I'm confused as to why a guy with this kind of break-away speed and vision falls to the 6th round. In a couple of these highlights he just runs away from everyone - DB's included. Really impressive.Get this man involved early and often! Quote
walshfan Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 if McNeal proves he can run precise routes and has good hands the Bengals may have found another dangerous receiver...there's no doubting his ability to make the cuts and his overall speed in scary... Quote

If it was that easy, NFL teams would just sign everyone on the Olympic sprint team (Al Davis basically tried that back in the 80s).Basically, that's a big "if" and that's why he fell to the 6th round. HairOnFire Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 I still think he's a better WR possibly - I'm confused as to why a guy with this kind of break-away speed and vision falls to the 6th round. For whatever it might be worth, Mike Mayoch claimed several days ago that McNeal strongly resisted the conversion to another position, demanding he be considered by teams only as a QB, and repeatedly refused requests to work out for teams as a wideout or RB. He claimed further that McNeal changed his stance about switching positions far too late for most teams to include him on their boards. Quote
ChadJohnson-85 Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 WOWWhat he said. he should be a BIG WR for trick paly's. Like what Marvin Lewis said, he can be our Antwan Randle'el, only beyyer. My bad Better. Quote
TJJackson Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Thats really his ticket onto the field - WR play - as he has prototypical size, fabulous speed, quicks, and athleticism.Once he's on the field as a WR, then we can start working in the trick plays. But he has to get on the field first as a position player.A trick play never going to work if a player comes onto the field who can only run trick plays. The presence of said player tips off the defense UNLESS he can and does participate all the regular plays as well Quote
GROIIIDayton Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 That was amazing. Hell I don't care where you put him at. He has to be as good as Radio. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Frankly, I didn't like a lot of what I saw. He runs backwards far too often. It might work in college, but in the NFL, it is going to be a loss of yards more often than a big gain. Quote

I'll remember that when he takes a slant, direct snap or WR screen pass 50 yards to pay dirt next year. He was "running backwards" on those plays because he was a QB and the pass protection immediately broke down. And with that speed he can stretch the field as well I would think. He's actually bigger than Chad and just as fast as Henry.Color me impressed. Quote
kentjett Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 http://draftblogrelay.blogspot.com/2006/04...-highlight.htmlI found another video w/ better music and different highlights. This video actually shows him throw the ball. Quote
JPW Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Video HighlightsNot sure if this has been posted yet here.Yea it was posted on draft day in response to the bitching that a few people were doing over the pick. But it is certainly worth taking another look at ...I particularly like the plays where he just flat out runs away from the other team's DBs.http://draftblogrelay.blogspot.com/2006/04...-highlight.htmlI found another video w/ better music and different highlights. DC_Bengals_Fan Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 After watching that video Reggie McNeal has got to be a better QB than Radio.Sadly, I doubt it. Most QBs aren't very good as true rookies in a real offense (sorry Roethlisturdburglar). Even Manning the Elder, in his rookie year, wasn't as good in his first year as Anthony Wright was last year. And sad that is, indeed, my friends.Although he's probably a better WR than Cuba Gooding Jr.And I will have to say, I can't wait to see this guy in preseason. But let's be realistic - how does he make this team? WRs: Cj, TJ, Chapman, Squirrel, Henry, Tab. If we didn't just get Chapman, I'd say have him return punts. If he's impressive enough in camp, and can play some special teams, maybe he can put a fork in the Squirrel? Can this guy be a gunner? Be the new Walter?Right now, I imagine this guy's best bet to make the team is to start planting weed in Cheech's car, or stealing his CC and doing some nasty stuff to some hotel guests. Assuming Cheech doesn't do it for him. Quote

GROIIIDayton Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 I'll bet anyone anything that he makes the team. Quote

Teams are hesitant to use high draft picks on players just because they're fast. In McNeal's case, he hasn't played anything else except QB, so he's going to be learning a new position. Most teams aren't going to spend an early pick on someone who has to learn a new position. Quote
GROIIIDayton Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 mwjr...Kinda like Matt Jones last year right?? He would have been selected earlier if he would have worked out at WR. Quote

Most teams aren't going to spend an early pick on someone who has to learn a new position.*ding ding ding ding*This is also the reason we should tame the hype on him. He has to learn to play WR, because he hasn't even taken a snap as a WR since his freshman year in high-school. This means he doesn't know how to run routes, avoid the jam, sell fakes, turn the cornerback around, catch a high pass in traffic, tuck the ball away when carrying it, or do half-a-dozen other things you expect a WR to just know when they join a team in the NFL. It will be a good year before he finds the field... and maybe more with our depth. Most 1st round WR's don't make a huge impact in the NFL, so we shouldn't expect this guy to do much until later on.All that said... I love the pick because of the future potential. Quote
GROIIIDayton Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 I expect two or three touchdowns receiving maybe... passing maybe... Quote
johnson85 Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 hell man I would try him out returning kick offs! That is if he can handle catching the ball. He could be the next Dante Hall, the way stops on a dime and changes direction. Quote
da boss Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 I think that in a couple of years teams are going to wonder why they passed over such a great player. Quote
