Any thing on the kid? how did he play is he better catcher or a blocker ;)

how big is he? can't find nothing on him on yahoo

David Jones, LSU – Jones’ strength lies in his versatility. He’s nimble enough to be a dangerous option in the passing attack, yet powerful enough to be summonsed to the backfield and used as a blocking back in short yardage situations. Jones sort of gets lost in the Tiger offense, but with so much attention going to the waves of speedy backs and receivers, he should see a surge in production in 2005.

I guess he's a bit of both.

Good yards/catch... but he only caught 9 balls. Soundls like he is a good blocker though.

correction: he caught 12 balls last year... 9 was his junior year. Still not a receiving TE though. There were 5 games he didn't even catch a pass.

That's team leader material for the Bengals!

  • 2 weeks later...

I too follow LSU football and have a much different opinion of Jones.

Jones didn’t play Spring ball his senior year due to an injury suffered in the Outback Bowl. With a new coach at LSU, this probably hurt his role with the team a little, because LSU had a local kid they were grooming for the TE position.

However, Jones usually started and was the pre-season pick to be 1st team SEC, by the SEC coaches. The injury, and subsequent shoulder surgery set him back a little, but overall he had a solid year.

During Jones Junior year, he alternated between H-back and TE. Former coach Nick Saban, liked to keep him on the field, but, used him more to block because LSU doesn’t use TE’s in the passing game very often.

According to one publication, as a junior in high school, Jones had 24 catches for 500 yards and 12 touchdowns, but, only 4 touchdowns his senior year. He was also named the top football player in the Mid-Atlantic states and was ranked the number 4 TE in high school, even above Winslow, who was ranked 7th.

I think Jones will have a successful profession career similar to his uncle, Hall of Fame Player, Charlie Taylor and his father, who played 13 years for the Browns (Joe Turkey Jones), Eagles and Redskins.

Here's a key portion of the article...

Jones’ agent Lance Courtney said Cincinnati offered him a spot before the draft, and Jones picked the Bengals over the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Washington Redskins.

Sheds a little more light on the Bengals' TE/draft strategy.
