TJJackson
They did this last year too - WR picks when they needed defense (especially S) and TE.Very poor decision making in the draft room this year

HoosierCat
I've said it before, I'll say it again: TE Stacy Andrews.Let's face it, we have Perry, who is primarily a receiver out of the backfield, and one of the best WR corps in football. Schobel wasn't nearly as bad as some made him out to be, and they could only spare him a couple balls a game. For the Bengals, TE is first, second and last a blocking job.So let's put the Dancing Bear there. Basically a 6-man o-line. Andrews might even be able to catch the occasional pass, he was a track and field star so he has boatloads of athletic talent. With Whitworth now we don't need him at RT, tho he can also back up there.Andrews for TE!
Kazkal
You mean 2 carry perry who alrdy is on crutches before the season starts?
DuffMan
Maybe we're just gonna trade Kelley Washington for a TE and throw the rookies into the fire. The Bengals must not have been impressed with ANY of the TEs, DEs, or Ss left.
TJJackson
Andrews is having a hard enough time grasping the role of a RT, I don't think he'll do well learning pass routesWhitworth is a replacement for Levi, not for Willy. Kooistra and Kieft are both Willy replacements

turnip
If Dexter and Madieu can stay healthy then Safety wasn't as pressing a need with KK providing depth. With injuries though, we could look at a repeat of last year. A receiving tight end is not important in this offense, and it looks like it's going to stay that way. I'm not sold on drafting 3 WR's, I don't really understand it. We weren't going to find an impact player at this point in the draft, but I figured we would get depth for other positions. As for possible UFA's, Anthony Mix the WR/TE from Auburn is still available and I think he would make an interesting tight end.
Whur CHad At?
No Whitworth is a replacement for Willie. Read the Enquirer, they say they plan on grooming him in the Right Tackle posistion

Like I said, TE here is all about run blocking. He needs to learn enough pass routes for ther occasional goal line trick play.Whitworth is a replacement for Levi, not for Willy. Kooistra and Kieft are both Willy replacementsWhitworth projects at RT in the NFL. Levi is going nowhere, he'll be franchised if he doesn't reach a long-term deal before next March.Keift will be lucky to stick with the team. The knee injury he had is a crap load more important for a lineman than for Palmer. Koo will remain very solid tackle depth.

andybren
Andrews might even be able to catch the occasional pass, he was a track and field star so he has boatloads of athletic talent.Pretty sure you throw the shot put, not catch it. But actually, I think you're right to question the emphasis placed on the TE position. When Carson was running the no-huddle and Reggie Kelly was in fulltime, we did just fine. It wouldn't hurt to have another weapon, but still, we had the #6 offense without it.

Carson will just fake the handoff and then throw to Perry for a 70 yard TD.The difference being that usually one game a year, Schobel would actually have a good game and make the defense payThe defenses didn't know if that day would be the day Schobel decided to actually earn his paycheckWith Andrews at TE, unless he ran some routes and catches an occasional pass, the defense would be all over itI love the idea as a goal line only strategy, actually.....but only then
HoosierCat
I'm just trying to find a way to use Stacy and fill a hole. Let's face it: between the drafting of Whitworth and the rumors that they are looking to move Wilkerson to guard, that suggests to me that the Dancing Bear just ain't working out. At least at RT. So let's take advantage of the fact tht, one, we don't use a TE for much more than a 6th offensive lineman, and two, he's got all sorts of athleticism -- and occasionally running 5 yards out and catching a ball while 230 lb. LBs and 180 lb. safeties bounce off your 300 lb. butt can't be that friggin tough.I mean, what's the option here? Perennial camp follower Ronnie Ghent? Screw it, let's get the Bear on the field. They did invest a 4th in the guy so IMHO it's worth playing with him a bit.I do definitely like the idea of him blocking out on short yardage or goal line plays, where it is fairly obvious we'll run anywayThey did it with Levi his first year and IIRC they have lined Stacy up at TE a couple times in running situations. So that much is already happening. All I'm saying is that if he is the athelete they keep saying he is, then I think there's a chance to turn him into the kind of TE the bengals would use: a primarily blocking TE with the capability to catch a big pass or 2 here and there. Spor_tees
If 3 WR's confused you...how about the fact that Martin Nance went undrafted out of Miami of Ohio when he once was projected as a first rounder and even to the Bengals!!Can you see undrafted free agent signee??? HoosierCat
The other thing to remember re: WR is that 1. they are reportedly looking to deal K-wash; 2. Henry has legal issues; and 3. TJ will be 29 in September.So...Washington didn't work out...TJ is getting older...Henry may be in jail/suspended...yeah, I can see throwing a few bones at the WR position.
