Bengalbob
From the Dayton Daily news . . ."With so much talent at wide receiver — starters Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, plus Antonio Chatman, Tab Perry, P.K. Sam and Jamall Broussard — the Bengals shouldn't be hurt much if Chris Henry's two arrests leads to his suspension by the commissioner.Speaking of wideouts, Kelley Washington has yet to sign his one-year tender offer as a restricted free agent — an indication he's hoping a different team signs him to an offer sheet."http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/cont...0417inside.htmlDo you think he has options, or is he just dreaming? HoosierCat
It isn't a strong year for WR in the draft...but obviously so far no one thinks he is worth a 3rd.There was some speculation that he was the infamous locker-room snitch who leaked l'affair Chad and that the Bengals were hoping to unload him...don't know if that's true but it would explain the apparent lack of any deal. HairOnFire
KDub was tendered, an indication that the Bengals still have interest in keeping the player in question. For proof, just refer to every other player the Bengals bothered to tender. If there's no interest, there's no effort made to keep the player. If there's no interest, there's no effort made to keep the player. The Bengals had to tender him or else they wouldn't get a draft pick compensation in return. For now he's costing us some money against the cap (not sure of the amount, but probably around $1.2mil) and we can always cut him after the draft. I believe the deadline for RFAs to sign tenders with another team is 4/21 (tomorrow). So basically we're using up a bit of cap room as an option on getting a 3rd round pick if another team wants to sign him.

Bengalbob
Kooistra, Kevin Walter, JJ, and the Squirell were the only RFAs. All four were tendered; Walter is gone; and the two others (Kooistra and JJ) have already signed.

No idea what KW's ultimate status is but tendering him indicates nothing. Sorry, maintenance called and they said your ding was malfunctioning. They suggested you try the buzzer next time. C'mon, you know the Bengals aren't getting any trade compensation for KDub, I know they're not gettting any trade compensation for KDub, Joisey knows they're not gettting any trade compensation for KDub, and yeah....the Bengals know they're not gettting any trade compensation for KDub. It's silly to suggest that the Bengals have no interest in a player in one sentence while in the next you claim that they can get a 3rd round pick for him. Kooistra, Kevin Walter, JJ, and the Squirell were the only RFAs. All four were tendered; Walter is gone; and the two others (Kooistra and JJ) have already signed. Yup. So who wants to suggest that they didn't want to keep all of the above players if possible? JJ's gotten a long term deal, Kooistra is a top backup they'd probably love to lock up for a few more years if possible, and Walter would still be a Bengal if he didn't get an offer that paid him more than even his biggest supporters felt he was worth. Guys, you don't offer tender contracts to players you aren't interested in.
ArmyBengal
Exactly... The Bengals are interested in Washington and with Henry being up in the air, I'd say that interest is even bigger now. I would love to see someone reach out and touch K-Wash and give us their third. I would love to see Tab get the opportunity at WR (he may anyway) and I'm not convinced PK Sams is a waste on the roster either.C'mon anybody, sign K-Wash to an offer sheet !!!WHODEY !!! ArmyBengal
Willie , is gone. We will draft Gillis at 24 IMHO. And I guess that would be relevant if we were talking about Willie and not K-Wash !!! And would you like to put money on the Gillis specualtion at 24 ??WHODEY !!! ArmyBengal
sure, what odds you give me its Gillis,Pope? Well, I'm still waiting on your response to Arrington still coming here in the other thread. After that, I'll make whatever wager you want that we wont take Gillis in the 1st !!! If so, go back to our thread in the casino...**Back to your regularly scheduled thread**Gimme a 3rd for K-Wash !!!WHODEY !!!
Larry
I will broker the bet....for a modest fee of course. I second the motion....K-dub anyone. another third would be nice...And is the tender counting against the cap if he has not signed it? HoosierCat
Guys, you don't offer tender contracts to players you aren't interested in.Sure you do. Heck, the number of RFAs around the league who go untendered each year can be counted on one hand. It's just standard operating procedure. KW got a minimum tender on the off chance that it could lead to an extra 3rd round pick. And I think we were all agreed that the Bengals would take that over KW in a heartbeat. On top of that consider that the Bengals have gone to the WR well twice this offseason (Sams and Chatman) yet KW is still floating around out there. He'll likely end up back here, but by little more than default.
TJJackson
RightThe cool thing about RFA tenders is while they do tie up some cap money, no "real" money is tied up until the actual season starts. And cutting a player who signs a 1 year RFA tender equals no dead money - there is no guarenteed money whatsoever.So...for purpose of the argument, let's say Kelly Washington is indeed the snitch. Even after he signs his tender, he'll can still be cut before the season starts, and Marvin's promise will be kept.
BTG
WTF? Spain....Gilles isn't even a first round prospect. They could get him in the second round. Plus, if they're looking to replace Willie Anderson, a tackle, why would they draft Gilles, a guard?
HairOnFire
He'll likely end up back here, but by little more than default. Let's review. You think Washington will be back, but not because the Bengals actually want him. So, in your opinion.....is he holding them hostage? So...for purpose of the argument, let's say Kelly Washington is indeed the snitch. Even after he signs his tender, he'll can still be cut before the season starts, and Marvin's promise will be kept. Marvin's promise has already been kept. Kitna is a Lion.
HoosierCat
Let's review. You think Washington will be back, but not because the Bengals actually want him.Given that no one appears to be interested in coughing up a 3rd for him, I think he eventually signs the tender. But whether he makes the final roster, or is traded or cut, remains to be seen.
TJJackson
OK, so Lapham says Kitna was the snitch. I like Lapham, but I don't believe this particular statement. I consider Kitna to be about the least likely source of such a thing.....

Whether KDub is a bubble player who may not make the final roster is a far different point than one that claims he was tendered soley because of the remote chance he might bring some trade return. Point blank: Unless you can argue that the Bengals could realistically expect to get a 3rd rounder for Washington the tender/trade rant makes little sense. BTW, the point being made in the first post of this thread relates to Washington's reluctance to sign the tender that he was offered, and has absolutely nothing to do with the Bengals motivation for offering the tender. Washington wants to play somewhere where he isn't considered an insurance policy.
