andybren
Quotes from the Gallo article.... Week 1Cincinnati at Kansas City -- One of the best-known sayings in sports is: "Defense wins championships." A lesser-known saying that's no less true is this one: "The Bengals and Chiefs won't win a championship anytime soon."Week 2Kansas City at Denver -- After opening with a tough game against the Bengals, the Chiefs could start the season 0-2, meaning they'll start that push for more playoff teams again.Week 3Cincinnati at Pittsburgh -- The start of the game will be delayed a few minutes so the Steelers can retire Kimo von Oelhoffen's number.Week 4New England at Cincinnati -- This game likely will serve as another reminder to the Patriots that they might want to think about improving their secondary one of these offseasons if they can manage to find the time while ridding themselves of franchise legends.Week 7Denver at Cleveland -- The Broncos head to Cleveland to see whether there are any more mediocre lineman they can have.Week 13Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh -- It's a matchup of the last two coaches with freakish cartoon faces to win Super Bowls.Week 14Oakland at Cincinnati -- Al Davis finally gets to see the vertical aerial attack he has wanted for years. Unfortunately for him, it's not his team.Week 15Cleveland at Baltimore -- Punting is awesome.

HoTbOy
I swear it feels good to see your team getting respect like that after all these years...he really does have a lot of good things to say about the O...i think he he also selling the D a little short, granted things have been bad for years, teams do improve from year to year so we just have to wait and see about the D...it shows what people think of CPalmer9... Read that first one again, an obvious potshot at our swiss cheese defenseCome on, if you cant see that our defense has had serious problems stopping just about anyone the past couple of years then something is wrong. He is saying if we dont fix our defense [and to be honest, we havent exactly set the world on fire with our FA signings] we arent going to be winning a championship anytime soon.I think he is right. This draft will set the stage for our SuperBowl run the next 3 seasons.

We just signed Sam Adams, without a doubt the biggest profile player the Bengals have EVER brought in. Dexter Jackson isOh I have watched them. Read what you just said, Adams is the highest / biggest profile player ever to be brought into Cincy. Adams is also a 33 year old, 13 year veteran. That right there reinforces my statement - We dont exactly set the world on fire in FA. Dont get me wrong, I like the Adams signing but we will be lucky to get 2 years out of a 1 - 2 down player.Dexter Jackson is a mystery, when healthy he can be a very good player, the problem is, he cant stay healthy. I think he is better than last year but a $2M cap hit better than last year, not sure about that.I am happy with both signings but they are just band-aids which is why I said this draft will set the stage for the next 3 seasons, specifically on DEF. I hope we take a DT and S on the first day followed by depth on the OL, secondary, WR and ST on the second day.Respect What the hell are you talking about. redsbengalsbucks
Before last season everyone was saying that Indy's defense was holding them back, but look what one season has done for them.Another year of experience and hopefully a better season without a string of injuries to one position and the defense could be rather good this year.Of course if the Off. Coordinator would learn how to call a game with a lead and run the clock out with RUDI and Perry it would help the D greatly.I cant wait to see Maykillu and Jackson line up at safety for the first time, what an up-grade from the playoff game.I'm still hoping for DB, DL, S on the first day of the draft and OL, TE and ST depth after that. Stripes
I love the Kimo and Al Davis cracks. I also love the total lack of respect for Baltimore or Cleveland in that last quote.

andybren
Don't paint too fine a point on the defense crack. I don't think it's common knowledge, outside of Cincinnati, that we've had very specific defensive problems the past few years --- especially with all the publicity we got from all those interceptions. More likely, Gallo is just talking about our general reputation of having an explosive offense and a so-so defense. Take two teams that are perceived as one-dimensional and you're going to make fun of the dimension that they're lacking. If you're making jokes about the Giants/Ravens Super Bowl from a few years ago, you're going to talk about how mediocre Kerry Collins and Trent Dilfer were, not how awesome the Ravens defense was. That being said, I think we've made key improvements on our defense this off-season, primarily through getting older and healthier. We're not setting the free agency world on fire, but we didn't need to.

ArmyBengal
Oh, I think everyone knows about our defensive woes and regradless of interceptions, we aren't looked upon very well from a defensive standpoint. However, I still find these comments amusing as hell !!!WHODEY !!!
Whur CHad At?
They are funny, and they need more people to make jokes about our D. Maybe that will make them play better! Although I think we will do better this year

The_Next_Big_Thing
"Oakland at San Francisco -- Having to watch these two teams should do wonders for the growth of soccer in the Bay Area."OH MY GOD NOW THAT THERE IS DARNED FUNNY! schweinhart
The defense gonna get motivation all right but it won't be from cracks or whatever from national media hacks. Marvin and Brez know they got to put the sh#t together on the field this year...and they've taken some steps to do that. All the motivation they need should come right at the season opener when they get tested by probably the best RB going into next year and what's left of a still great, big pass catching TE. If they can get up for that, especially after how badly KC trounced the Bengals half-a$$ed 1st team D and the backups also, then something would be wrong. They may not shut any body down completely but the signs have to be there that they can deal with a dominating offense like KC is when in its in groove. A really great test for the Bengals to start the season.
ArmyBengal
I just really hope they have Carson back for that game, but if he isn't ready, he isn't ready and I hope they don't push it. K.C. will be ready for this game. Home opener to start the season and they put an asswhooping on us to end the season...WHODEY !!!
