Williams extended

I think the Bach, will get a deal similar to Bobbie. Maybe longer, and more money, like a 5 year deal worth $15-20 mill. Don't expect him to get a huge deal, like Hutchinson...like most of you on here who think that since Hutchinson got s**t loads than Bach will too, well no you are wrong because he is good, but not an ALL-PRO.

Levi might get tagged, but I don't believe he will. I think he will get a lucrative deal maybe similar to Chris Samuels deal, but nothing like a Walter Jones kind of deal, although it will be close.

And for Willie, he could take a 3 year deal for not whole lot, but I think he will becuase he has loyalty to the team and the organization. He will retire as a Bengal.

I don't think Willie is going anywhere either, but I'm speculating only... I to believe he would like to retire as a Bengal, but at the same time, I don't see the Bengals giving the coin to someone of his age. Hopefully they can come to an agreement...

Some o-line tidbits buried in Hobson's Chad piece today...

Now, all eyes are on three of the linemen that don’t have extensions. And since the cap hit on Johnson's new deal is only about $1.25 million for this year the Bengals have room to keep going. (Note: I think Hobson means Chad's cap hit is only about $1.25 million *more* than it was under the old deal; Chad's '06 salary alone is more than $1.25 million, Geoff!)

“All this time I’ve been worried about our offensive linemen that are all up after 2006 and I didn’t realize that Chad was up after this year, too,” said Pro Bowl right tackle Willie Anderson with a chuckle. “I’m shocked that we didn’t get one of those young offensive linemen done before we did Chad.”

Of course, that’s the point. Johnson still had four years left on his contract. Left tackle Levi Jones (second Pro Bowl alternate) and left guard Eric Steinbach (first Pro Bowl alternate), as well as Anderson, a three-time Pro Bowler himself, are up after 2006.

“I’m happy for Chad and his family. He’s my boy and I don’t think there’s a doubt he’s one of the top receivers in the league,” Anderson said. “I’m just surprised after the kind of year we had as a line and at what a high level we played that Levi or Steinbach isn’t signed at this point in the year.”

After turning down a three-year, $13 million extension last offseason, Anderson hasn’t heard anything since.

“I’m surprised I haven’t even got a phone call,” Anderson said.

Anderson, about to become the 17th Bengal to play at least 11 seasons in Cincinnati, said from the Pro Bowl two months ago that he felt the Bengals should first sign Jones and Steinbach because of their age. And that’s what they are trying to do. Apparently they have offers out to Jones and Steinbach and with about $4.5 million under the cap, they feel like they can get one of them, and possibly both, before they hit free agency.

And, as one club insider acknowledged Thursday, the top priority has been to get this team set up for 2006 and the line is intact for that, with time to spare before ‘07.

This sounds like Big Willie doesn't agree with the whole Chad thing, but I understand his point of view. I don't know why he's surprised he hasn't gotten a phone call... I would think he knows he probably at the bottom of the o-line extension priority list. Oh well...

All I'll say is what I've said before. *If* Willie's demands aren't going to come down (and they haven't shown any sign of doing so) and *if* the Bengal don't intend to meet them...then now is the time to trade him. I would hate to see him go...but I would hate to see him walk in '07 and the Bengals get nothing in return even more.

This offense will struggle if they lose Steinbach and Willie in the same season.

I think the suggestion was to trade Big Willie before the start of the '06 season. If we wait until next year, we won't be able to trade him because he'll be a UFA (I believe). Does that change your take at all? If you were worried about losing him next year, odds are you're not in favor of losing him even sooner I suppose.
