Stripes
http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5184 I think the Bengals should make a strong effort to keep this guy in the fold.
TJJackson
Agreed. He is worth more than 4 this year.
BlainThePain
I agree as well. I think we'll see a big blow to the offense with his loss, especially since Rudi and Perry might have to carry the offense for the first couple of games. He could mean the difference in making the playoffs and just missing out on them this season.

schweinhart
Not exactly much to choose from in free agency either if the 49ers offer and the Bengals don't match.Wouldn't really want to see a rook tossed in there but there's 3 FBs who could probably swing the blocking load: Lawrence Vickers, Matt Bernstein and Naufahu Tahi.Best case is meet the price if there is one. JJ is a lead blocking machine and offers nice wrinkles as a receiver out of the backfield. Plus he's shown he could probably carry the main RB run load if there was really no other choice. Fairly important player.
Whur CHad At?
I do think we need to keep his ass around, and I think we will. I mean, who wants to play for SF??
bengalboomer7
When in shape the guy is a freak. Very light on hos feet for his size. I think he's one of the best in the league.

kingwilly
...it would be nice to get a r4 pick for him...take a look at victor mann....VERY underrated sleeper.Mann (6-1¼, 279) ran his 40 in 4.49 at the k. state Pro Day.....yes, sub 4.5 at about 280 without pads...imagine that leading out Rudi over Levi or Willie.guy can block/run/catch and is an outstanding citizen....so, if the niners want JJ for an r4, then so be it...let's take the pick to the bank. Spor_tees
Round 4 pick for JJ? If we had two 4th round picks, we could give the Lions a 5th for Harrington instead of a 6th. I bet they would take that! But we would probably have to give them the 4th, which wouldn't be bad since we would be getting the 49ers 4th which is essentially a late 3rd. Something to really think about.
TJJackson
NopeI always prefer a quality known player over two unknown players of great potential. If a given player is above average in his position, unless you have absolute superstars also on the roster at that same position, then you got to do everything you can within reason to keep him
bengalindian
It would be nice to have an extra 4th rounder, but it's also important to have JJ around if the running game has to carry this team at the beginning of the season. I would def like to see JJ back this year, and I'm not really a fan of Joey Harrington. Plus, when Carson comes back, and JJ isn't there, it would hurt the running game anyway. Bring him back as long as the deal is decent.
andybren
I always prefer a quality known player over two unknown players of great potential.Exactly. JJ's replaceable, but you never know if you've picked/signed the replacement until it's too late.
turnip
Call me a homer, but in my opinion, Jeremi has become the best run-blocking FB in the NFL. Not the best overall, but still a very good one that we need to keep around.
The_Next_Big_Thing
I'd love to keep Jeremi. We can never have enough Johnsons hitting the holes! However, he can be replaced easily enough in the draft in the 4th round. Remember, the 49rs 4th round pick is practically a 3rd round pick. It's the 3rd pick in the round. LOTS of good guys will be there. David Thomas, Garrett Mills, Connor Long, Chad Henly, and even Matt Bernstein or Lawrence Vickers MIGHT be there.Guys like Martin Nance, Eric Henderson, Dusty Dvoracek, Montavius Stanley, or even a QB like Omar Jacobs, Charlie Whitehurst, or Paul Pinegar could be there. derekshank
I want J.J. back. But if he doesn't come back... it's not the end of the world. Johnson is very underrated... but if we would indeed get the 49ers 4th round pick (is that how it works?) it would be the 3rd pick of the 4th round (100th pick overall). That's around the same place Marion Barber and Brandon Jacobs (two pretty decent backs) went last year. About the same place we got Landon Johnson 2 years ago... and Chris Cooley the really good TE/FB went for the Redskins. Also around the same place that Dominic Davis and Chris Brown went 3 years ago.The point is... there will be value to be had there. If I had to choose one or the other... I'd definetly take Johnson... but if the 49ers offer him too much, having the pick won't be anything to complain about.
ArmyBengal
I want JJ to stay as much as the next person, but we have to look at the big picture..."IF" San Fran does sign JJ to a sheet, it might make it very difficult to hold onto him, due to the fact we are working on the o-line extensions not to mention Chad is going to be looking for the cash (HE DESERVES) as well. The 4th round pick would come in handy as a tool to move back up in the 3rd and then address FB in the later rounds.Don't get me wrong, I like JJ alot, but we have to look at it with a bit of perspective and I think there's a chance he may not return...WHODEY !!! Stripes
If the 49ers do decide to write up an offer sheet, then I'd say the chances of JJ staying in Cincy will be slim. They'll be willing to offer good money if they're interested, and I doubt the Bengals will match for a fullback. I do like the fullbacks in this year's draft, but I would rather keep JJ and not have to worry about using another pick on offense.

I just think, like you stated, if he does get signed to an offer sheet, it will be difficult to bring him back and I think they take the 4th and move on to the draft with the extra pick to play with...WHODEY !!! derekshank
From a 49ers perspective... they would have to think pretty highly of him to give him enough money to keep him away from Cincy AND give us the equivalent of a late 3rd round pick.My guess is they are just looking at him... but when it comes down to it, they'll decide the price tag is too high. DC_Bengals_Fan
Keep him. A really good fullback who knows your system and has a great relationship with your RB is worth more than a 4th round pick, in my opinion. And he's from WKU. Keep the local boys at home! Stripes
Neal wanted to leave, but I doubt Johnson would. I don't think a 4th rounder is ample compensation for his services either. We'd probably end up using that pick on his replacement, and I'd rather just pay him to stick around (unless the 49ers or anyone else offers him too much).
