PhunkE1 Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I was able to watch this guy a few times at UT and he's going to be an absolute stud. His injury has dropped him to about where we'll be picking. I think he's exactly what Marvin looks for in a CB. He's 6'1" 210 and runs the 40 in the 4.3's. I see him starting over Tory by the end of the year if we sign him. He can also play safety, so you've got to love the versatility he would bring. If he's their when we pick I'd be suprised if we didn't take him. I'd much rather have him over Pope. Quote
BlainThePain Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I'm a big Jason Allen fan and I would be thrilled if we drafted him. Quote
CJBestInAFC Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Allen or Cromartie at #24 is fine by me. I think either one of these players will be a steal at 24. I also like Donte Whitner here too. He ran in the 4.3s in the 40 and would be a great starting SS. Quote

TJJackson Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I'd love to see Jason Allen in stripes, but because of his injury hstory, I think 24 is too high, and would hope we'd trade down or that somehow, some way, he falls to 55 Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I agree, he's a tough one to get, because your reaching at 24 and he probably won't be around at 55 Quote
Stripes Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I'd rather have Cromartie or Whitner than Allen, but I wouldn't be upset by this pick. I'm not as worried about his injury woes as I would be with Cromartie (but less excited about his contributions than the same player) and it's hard to look past his efforts at the combine. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I'll be happy with just about any defensive pick that comes close to not being a reach...WHODEY !!! Quote
HairOnFire Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I should probably ask Rover to make me a pimpin' sig that says...."Any CB is fine with me." Quote

Bobcat Bengal Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 Tory is fine.Get off his back. That said, we do need to start looking at drafting a Top-Tier CB/S that will be able to take over his duties eventually. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 Were it not for his injury history, i would be pimping Jason Allen and no other player at 24. But he does have the history, so I think he's too risky a pick at 24. If he falls to 55, I will be thrilled to no end Quote

DesperateDerelict Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 According to Robinson on Yahoo today:Jason Allen, S/CB, Tennessee – He's fluid and fast, but his future still seems to be at safety. His ballistic numbers at the combine put to rest the short-term fears about his surgically repaired hip. Scouts say: His injured hip has tested out with about 85 percent of the strength of his healthy one, and it could be an issue as his career progresses. That 85% worries me - hips have a tendency to degenerate about as fast as Bengalzone Message Threads. To see the whole article (it's mostly about Cromartie): Charles Robinson on Yahoo Quote

If the hip is NOT regaining its strength, then I too would worry. I'm still hopeful that we are only glimpsing at a player who is on his way back and hasn't fully recovered yet. His workout numbers are even more impressive when we consider his hip is not at full strength. Quote

The question is = Do you use the 24th pick (6 years, $25M) on someone who MAY only last 2 - 3 years? I think Allen is destined for the top of the 2nd round. Quote

The difference that you point out is that in this case its the "hip", not a knee. So, Cromartie may have an edge in the confidence level regarding the recovery from his injury. Quote
