ArmyBengal
I bet Steinbach wouldn't mind seeing the love that Hutchinson got, but he will have to go somewhere else and when push comes to shove, regardless of how much I like Steiny, he won't get that love...WHODEY !!! Stripes
I'm sure Steinbach knows he'll never get that here. Still, with the cap space we have this year and will have next year, he should get taken care of.
The_Next_Big_Thing
No guard should get that kind of money!
HoosierCat
Talking with Bobby but not Eric? Bengals | Steinbach wants to stayWed, 5 Apr 2006 10:52:59 -0700Bill Rabinowitz, of the Columbus Dispatch, reports Cincinnati Bengals OLG Eric Steinbach said he was unaware of any talks between his agent and the Bengals on a new deal. His current contract expires following the 2006 season. Steinbach said that he would prefer to stay in Cincinnati. "I'd like to play the rest of my career here," said Steinbach. "We've got something good going right now. There's not reason I'd want to leave. If they want me around, they'll probably initiate the talks." Bengals | B. Williams confident new deal will happenWed, 5 Apr 2006 10:52:55 -0700Bill Rabinowitz, of the Columbus Dispatch, reports Cincinnati Bengals ORG Bobbie Williams said he is optimistic the team will sign him to a new deal soon. Williams' current deal expires after the 2006 season. "I just know they're talking and things are looking real good," said Williams. "It's real close. It's a matter of time." The_Next_Big_Thing
Naw, they are talking with Eric too, it's just that Bobby is talking so he's being quoted.
ArmyBengal
I don't see this as being an issue to tell you the truth, as they will make every attempt to keep the people signed on, they know will protect the investment they made in Carson !!! I expect big money to be handed out amongst this group of players and I also expect a tag to be placed somewhere along the line...WHODEY !!! HoosierCat
Naw, they are talking with Eric too, it's just that Bobby is talking so he's being quoted.Go back and read my post. Eric says straight out that they are not talking to him or his agent.
Stripes
There's still plenty of time for the talks to get underway with all the O-line, I'm confident that it'll all get done in time. Sounds to me like they're starting with the cheapest guy.
derekshank
Naw, they are talking with Eric too, it's just that Bobby is talking so he's being quoted.Go back and read my post. Eric says straight out that they are not talking to him or his agent.Maybe they just see Bobbie as being significantly cheaper... and really believe we have enough depth to let Steinbach go if he wants too much $. I think we'd take a significant hit if we lost Eric... but with Wilkerson, Kieft, and Koositra, maybe they're thinking they can't re-sign everyone, and Bobbie is the more financially responsible option. Here's to hoping everyone gets re-signed though! HairOnFire
Bobby Williams has been saying positive things for a couple of weeks now so it's a very good thing to here him say that they're real close. Again, I think it's important that they get at least one lineman extended prior to the draft, and while Bobby wouldn't be my first choice...he'll do for now. Moving on, why you guys think that Big Willie will settle for less to play here is beyond my ability to grasp. Fatburger franchises don't come cheap, and I think he'll demand the same double cheese from the Bengals as he asks from every other team. Not sure what to make about Steinbach's statements. Wasn't his agent quoted several weeks ago about talks being started? Maybe the agents remarks were just rumors being thrown around by local sportswriters, something I'm getting used to, or maybe Eric is being kept out of the loop until things solidify. oldschooler
Why would Hobson even quote an Agent that doesn`t represent anyonethat he`s writing about ? From an article back in the middle of March...Last week the Bengals contacted the agent for right guard Bobbie Williams and its believed theyve been in touch with the agent for left guard Eric Steinbach to talk about extending past 06, according to an agent who doesn't represent any of the trio.http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5139
