HoosierCat Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 I'm not sure I understand your problem. The D-lineman who can help this team cost too much. Van den Bosch, Pickett, Abraham, Tripplett, Ma'ake, and Bernard all will take a gigantic amount of cash....That's simply not altogether true. Pickett got $14 million over 4 years. Bernard got $13 million over 3. That qualifies as a gigantic amount of cash? Hedck, even the Bengals have done those level signings before (see Thornton, James, Hardy). Which is why I wonder if they just decided that Palmer's injury is too much of a risk to warrant spending in FA this year, and instead they decided to focus on the o-line. Of course, Levi and Steinbach are going to cost more than Pickett and Bernard, so we'll see just how open Mikey's wallet is... Quote
San Antonio Bengal Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 There's more to football than making big free agent acquisitions. This team has improved by leaps and bounds the past couple of years and it's mainly been because of the draft. FAs are good for precise needs, but general overall upgrades are going to come through the draft. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 That Dexter Jackson signing didn't mean s**t. Signing castoffs from the Cardinals hardly give me wood. The team has done NOTHING to address it's biggest weakness. STOPPING THE RUN! Some of you guy's are letting your "homer-itis" take over! Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Amen... STOP THE RUN STOP THE RUN STOP THE RUN !!!WHODEY !!! Quote
kingwilly Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Billy...why would TB re-sign an "AZ cast-off" as you put it? Because they knew he'd come in and re-establish the effectiveness of their cover -2 scheme and help stop the run...just what we need.D-Jack will surprise you...I won big ca$h when TB won the SB..and I thank him everytime I check my savings account....he is a very good player...nothing like Ohalete, as Joisey would lead all to believe...he will extend Tory's career by at least another year...and will be very effective on the storng side shoring up the run...no more sights of KK trying to arm tackle a run-away Jamal Lewis...Joisey, I see your point but for value, and considering what it will take now that Hutch's contract solidified, Steiny and Levi are gonna cost the ranch...I think one of them gets tagged, and the other gts the ramch while they work out CJ's new deal.Vanden Bosch got $18M guaranteed...on this team, only Plamer would be higher...the others are too expensive when contrasted against value...meaning risk/reward...tying that much up in Bernard or Pickett, then cuting Thornton (hooray!) or B-Rob means too many question marks/too much $$$. I do wish they'd targeted Kampmann or Ma'ake....they would have been worth it, then we'd re-focus our draft.... Quote

One reason. HE'S NO SAVIOR! If he was worth half a s**t, Tampon Bay wouldn't have let him get away. They re-aquirred him hoping he'd be what he was to them, and it's clearly apparent he's not. He'll do NOTHING to help stop the run compared to signing a half decent DT! Quote
kingwilly Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 ...easy tiger..having Jackson as a better SS than Ohateme and Glass-herring is just one part of the equation whihc also includes Madieu...We will address the DT in r2 and r3...I wish they'd grabbed at Ma'ake but life goes on...key would be getting s. smith more snaps and taking Bunkley, Watson or Wright...TB is deep at Safety...he was a costly commodity they did not need to pay to keep...not that he is a poor player. lando griffin Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 By the way, in case the people bashing the lack of a big signing haven't noticed, almost all of the teams who have made a big signing have also had to jettison big name players as well. I'm happy with our free agency so far, and still think there's one move left for Marvin. Much rather develop our own players than continue to let one of ours go just to bring another one in for big money. Anybody see New England or Pittsburgh doing anything big? Pittsburgh sucks in my mind, but you get the point. Quote

Spain Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Fas can kill you, this year is just like the year we signed TJ and Rudi. They will lock up Bach and Levi, then sign Grady then good night till the draft. Quote
