Defender
http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5132This makes me root for Joey Harrington even more now to be a sucessful starter so Kitna won't get the coveted starting job he thought would be available to him. Hate to say it, but Batimore would have been a better option for him in that regard.
jjakq27
It must have just happened because it isn't even on the lions site yet. http://www.detroitlions.com/Whether he can beat out Harrington remains to be seen. He could have been a jackass while he was here or at least after Carson took his spot and he didn't. He was also the bridge from Akili to Carson. He used to frustrate me when I watched him but he always tried hard, almost to a fault. That can't be said for some of the others that have left here for greener pastures.Kitna to Schoebel vs. Pittsburgh for the game winning TD and Kitna to PDub vs. the Chiefs to seal the game on '03 are two plays that will always make me think of him.I hope it works out for him. He's a good man and deserves the opportunity.
TJJackson
Bye JonThank you for all the unselfish help and support you gave to Carson, even though you really wanted to be a starterThank you for lifting this team on your shoulders two years ago as Marvin arrived. Thanks for being a model citizen hereI wish you well. ArmyBengal
This makes me laugh at best. If Kitna was sooooo wanting a starting job, why the hell would he sign with the Lions as a backup to Harrington, who was named the starter already by Martz ?? A write up stated Martz looked at Kitna as firm leadership and possessing great character and this was a plus to Kitna. Was he not looked at the same way by the Bengals ?? Here's to hoping Harrington has a huge season and Kitna never touches the ball again. I appreciate what he did while he was here and loved the comeback player of the year season, but all in all, his best was 8-8 and will not be missed by me AT ALL... I think Kitna lost some credibilty points in my book. Not what I came to expect from Kitna. Sad...WHODEY !!!
TJJackson
Not sure why he thinks he has a better chance to start there than here.Very confusing on that specific issue
KiLBurn
More power to him... Somebody offered him more money than he was worth and he took it. Nothing wrong with that.I look at it like killing two birds with one stoner owner...1. Kitna's gone.2. We get a new backup QB. (My gut says give Krenzel a chance and some playtime)
AMC
Always liked Kitna, helped Carson and is a great team player. But the words "washed up" come to mind when I think about Jon. I don't see him starting for the Lions.

redsbengalsbucks
If Kitna is the starter for the Lions next season, I see alot of running in circles, fumbling and balls thrown desperatly into the air as a result of a suspect O-Line.IMHO he would have been better served to remain a Bengal but I am also glad that he is gone because he always seemed to give up a disasterous play right when I started to think he was going to be OK. I think 8-8 was the best he could give and I want to thank him for helping get this franchise back on track and helping to develop the best Bengal QB in a long time. Bye Jon and God Bless

HairOnFire
Crap, Joisey stole the loaves and fishes joke I was going to use. All that's left for me is adding the part about Kitna beating it. Ready? Hey, Jon, beat it. BTW, my inner detective still says that Kitna was the lockerroom rat. Despite claims that Kitna still fit into the Bengals future plans it has been reported that there was absolutely no contact between the two sides. In fact, the last contact the Bengals had with Kitna's agent was informing him that they were lowering their previous offer. Then there's the inside connection that Boomer mentioned. Does that guy bother talking to anyone who isn't a QB? And last but not least, who do you think Chad's tirade was directed at? Who had the proper motivation to respond with his own attack on Chad? belmontbengal
Best of luck to Mr. Kitna. He will be missed and I appreciate his testimony and what he did while he was here with the Bengals.
BengalChamps
What a class act. He got more out of his ability than 99% of most professional athletes. You can say he he's no better than 8-8 but he was really not that talented. He just was so hard working and a TEAM player that he was able to lift his play above what one would expect from his physical abilities. My favorite Kitna moments: Kitna to Shoebel against the Squeelers to win in the last second, and the NFL telling him he couldnt wear his hats with the cross on it even though he had been wearing them for a long time.(they only started caring about it when Kitna and Bengals started having some success.Didnt Kitna throw another pass to beat the Squeelers at home? I cant remember now.Any way, I can understand him going to Detroit. He has 100% better chance of starting ahead of Harrington than in front of CP.I wish you well in Detroit! Agree with most of this, but he won't have a better chance of starting. He had as close to a 100% guarantee to start the season as a starter with the Bengals and almost no chance to start as a Lion. Harrington will get another reprieve because Martz thinks he can resurrect (sorry Jon) his career. IMO JK left for more $$$, which is absolutely fine. What will stick in my mind is his statement about how God was pointing him in this new direction to seek a starting job. That starting job (albeit hopefully of limited duration) was here. That starting job is likely not in Detroit. In fact, they're bringing him there as Garcia II simply to have somebody to go to if Harrington really sucks as bad as he has sucked in years past. That move won't be made for a couple of months at least, if ever. So, God appears to have made a bit of a tactical mistake with you Jon. I don't fault you for looking to squeeze some additional bucks out of what is no doubt only a year or two left of your career. I do fault you for bringing God into it. I'm pretty sure God is a Bengal fan and would have preferred not to make the team look for a rent-a-QB. (Then again, maybe God knows something?) ArmyBengal
OK, so now Kitna's motivation was more money and NOT a starting position ?? He's irritating me more and more now that he's gone !!! If it was truly about wanting more than what the Bengals were willing to offer (who held him in the same light the Lions are now being praised for holding him in) and not a starting position, then I feel this individual who everyone (including myself) held in high regard is full of SH*T !!!Like I said in my first post.... SADWHODEY !!!
The_Next_Big_Thing
Harrington will fail, again. Kitna will be starting by week 5 and will finish out the season as the starter for the Lions.

ArmyBengal
I just think Harrington will be getting MORE than another opportunity with the fact that Martz completely got rid of the old Lion offense and brought in a new one. That and the fact the martz already started schooling Harrrington up, would indicate he would have to screw up pretty good. The west coast obviously didn't suit Harrington in Detroit and hopefully for him, this new one will or Jon will get his chance I guess...WHODEY !!! Spain
The guys a system QB, on a great team. He will get killed up there in detroit. Dudes been in the same system his whole career. He wont be worth a damn there.

ArmyBengal
Maybe indoors he can throw the long ball. Are they pumping Helium into that dome for him ?? That's about the only thing that would help his long ball. I believe the Helium would have a drastic effect on him calling the plays at the line though !!! WHODEY !!! TippCityRick
Jeez Army, can't you just tip your hat to the man and let him go? Why all the disrespect? Is it the God thing?Anyway Kit filled an important role with this franchise. I'm not sure CP develops as quickly without his leadership and without CP playing at an All-Pro level this team is still on the outside looking in. I wish him well.God bless you, Jon. Kitna was one of the best team guys we've ever had. He felt he had a chance to start somewhere, and this desire combined with the maturation of Carson Palmer made him utterly expendable to the Bengals. There was no reason to spend a great amount of coin on him, or get into a bidding war with a team who wanted him to compete for a starting job. His leadership skills aren't worth that much... especially on the bench.Maybe Kitna kicked your dog, or you caught him staring at your wife in the stands or something... but his character on and off the field makes him the least likely candidate for the "lockerroom rat." I don't understand your dislike for him in the least.

I'm not sure CP develops as quickly without his leadership and without CP playing at an All-Pro level this team is still on the outside looking in. I wish him well.God bless you, Jon. By your comments, you're implying my issue with Jon has some basis of his religious beliefs. You call me disrespectful and then follow that with asking is it a "God thing" ?? You don't know my religious beliefs, so YOUR comments could be viewed disrespectful. I'm not offended by any means at what you said, but just found it amusing...As for Jon, let me go on record to say I agree wholeheartedly with what his involvement with the organization has done for the team and the development of Carson. I do wish him well !!However, have I stated something incorrectly ?Did he somehow develop a long ball since the last playoff game I was unaware of ??I'm merely pointing out what everyone here already knows, his "athletic ability" is no where near what we needed it to be and his best was worth 8-8. These are facts, not my opinion. Then, his whole argument was wanted to leave in order to be a starter, but he left for a 3-4 million bonus and no chance of starting for Detroit as Harrington has been given the reigns by Martz. I'm just stating this seems like a smoke screen to me and not as close to the truth as some might believe. Can I just let him go ?? Sure, I was one happy to see him go looking and it had nothing to do with God !!!WHODEY !!!
