CBin2k7 Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I know it's spring training, but one of the things I wanted to see is if Edwin could establish himself and win the 3rd base job outright. The kid has such a bright future...Well anyway, today he hit his GL leading 5th homerun to help the Reds beat the Pirates, the kid is absolutely ripping the cover off the ball. If nothing else, I am glad to see he is playing well, I have been following him since he was at Dayton.I expect him to hit 25-30 homers this year, if healthy for the full year. Quote
Stripes Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I don't expect that many homers... Maybe 15-20. Still, I think he'll be a bright spot on the roster for us, as a defender and on offense. He's certainly versatile, and we need that. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted March 9, 2006 Author Report Posted March 9, 2006 Maybe I should have said more like 20-25, but he hit 9 in like 211 at bats last year, not even playing full time. If you give him say 550 at bats, a full season's worth, that averages out to around 25 home runs.Anyway it goes, I am still excited to see him grow and become a part of the Reds offense, now if they could work on the pitching. Whur CHad At? Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 He will be a bust. Watch, I guarentee it. Maybe 10-15 homers, nothing special. Quote
Stripes Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 He will be a bust. Watch, I guarentee it. Maybe 10-15 homers, nothing special. With the Reds, that seems to be the trend. Still, he really does look like he has all the tools be a good player. Felipe Lopez panned out last year, and I expect Edwin to do the same this year. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted March 10, 2006 Author Report Posted March 10, 2006 He has half a season under his belt, how can you label him a bust? Of course he may struggle, but he is still young. The Reds have been good at developing position players (Lopez, Dunn, Kearns, Pena, soon you will see that catcher Perez) and bringing them up to contribute, it's just the pitching that they can't develop. Maybe that will start to turn around. Quote

Whur CHad At? Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Edwin is batting .200, he looks like s**t. Can't perform when it counts. Don't get excited over this guy, he won't do s**t. He is the next Willy Mo. Quote
Stripes Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Not everyone can start the season hot. Albert Pujols has been struggling as well lately, and he's certainly still a great player. I liked what I saw from Edwin in today's game against the Pirates, both defensively and at the plate. I am really liking what I've seen so far from Encarnacion, Lopez, and Kearns. The stats might not reflect it yet, but I've noticed already a considerable change in their play (except Lopez, he was awesome last year too). Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Pujols already has 3 homers. He isn't struggling. Edwin had three strikeouts today, I think Quote
Stripes Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Well Pujols is 0 for his last 7, that was my meaning. I'm not worried about Edwin. I still think he's the best young player on the team. Quote

Stripes Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Through the first 23 games of the season, Encarnacion leads the Reds in RBI with 23 (and is in the top ten in all of MLB), is third in batting average (at .292, behind only Scott Hatteberg at .294 and Brandon Phillips at .327). He currently has 3 home runs as well, so most of those numbers are coming through great hitting with RISP.Let's hope he can keep up that kind of production. Quote
