With all the salary dumps going on I wonder if we will join in the frackus too! I propose we dump:

1)Clemons-savings of 1.349million

2)Thornton-2million

3)Kelly-1.45million

we then have @5million more to spend in FA on top of what we currently have, so he is my big idea on how to add some talent.

1st-resign Levi and Steinbach to extentions

2nd-Sign Jeb Putzier (TE)

3rd-Sign Sage Rosenfels(QB)

4th-Sign Sam Adams-he will take a discount to play for Marvin this late in his career and allows us some size in the middle

5th-Sign Kalimba Edwards(DE) I think in a new system he will flourish and he will provide speed on the outside opposite J.Smith.

These are mostly low cost additions but greatly improve some of our key areas, the main thing is locking up the 2 guys on the offensive line! Then in the draft I like:

1st rd: Bunkley(dt) McNeill(OT) Whitner(S) Youbouty(CB) Kiwanuka(de)

2nd rd: Bing(SS) Blue(SS) Mahelona(DT) Gilles(g) Mangold©

3rd rd: Smith(SS) Klopfenstein(TE) Fasano(te) Wroten(dt)

4th rd: wide recievers

5th rd: D-line

6th rd: o-line

7th rd: athlete

1-3---will address areas of need

4-6----will provide depth

7--will give us the athlete, developmental, special team player regardless of position

thoughts!!!!

Won't get rid of Kelly that is for sure. Not real high on Kalimba Edwards that much, but if we signed him I wouuldn't mind.

Putzier would be a great pick up, I Like that. I like Sam Adams, I think he will come here for a good price.

As far as your draft...I would want us to draft Simpson first, but if he ain't there and Bunkley is, you don't pass on that ass. I would add CB Devin Hester into your 3rd round mix. I think we could prob. take him.

I can see 2 things unfolding:

1. Mikey is scared and I still don't see any evidence we will sign any high quality starters through FA, we never have. With the CBA potentially dead forever and a big cut in revenue sharing, Mikey will go into lock down mode with his $$$ until the CBA is resolved

2. Marvin is able to convince him with the uncertain future that we should pump our money into FA now and win within the next 2 years before we lose key personel to big market team

Could the NFL be changed forever and become like the MLB? Gosh I hope not.

Interestingly enough, Mike Brown's style of building a team resonates from the days before the CBA and free agency. His father and he both follow the our guys first mentality, and even if the CBA doesn't go through, they will be doing things pretty much the same. In fact, the Bengals may gain an upper hand because of this. They have always been willing to pay their guys, it's the free agency folks who are not Bengals they don't pay.

Combine this with the rules outside the CBA that without a salary cap limit the number of free agents from another team that a team with a wining record, playoff game, and/or Super Bowl appearance can sign each offseason, and the Bengals will potentially flourish even without a cap.

If we take a CB in the first round, I'd much rather have it be Allen from Tennessee. If any of you saw him at the combine on NFL Network you might have the same opinion as me. He did really well in all his drills and also sounded good in his press conference.

Those rules are not "outside the CBA." They are, in fact, part of the CBA and apply only in its final, uncapped, year, 2007. Along about this time of year in 2008, that CBA will expire. Done, gone, dead. And at that point there is no cap, no rules about who can sign who, etc.

In the abscence of an extension, the owners may attempt to impose new rules of their own, possibly similar to those for 2007 -- but by then the player's union will have followed through on its threat to decertify, and any such unilateral attempt to impose limits on player movement will result in multiple lawsuits against the league on antitrust grounds.
