I just pinched this off of Hobson on bengals.com

"Lewis admitted his team imploded in the playoff loss to Pittsburgh and vowed that the player who leaked the story of wide receiver Chad Johnson’s half-time tantrum won’t return"

So who was it? Jonh Thornton was my first thought.

-The Bengals will extend tender contract offers to their four restricted free agents: offensive lineman Scott Kooistra, wide receivers Kevin Walter and Kelley Washington and fullback Jeremi Johnson. All four players are probable to return to the Bengals in 2006.

Wasen't kdub sense they made him offer :P aren't only 2 offensive players leaving stewert and schobel?

They were going to tender Kelley Washington regardless.

They couldn`t get any compensation for him if they didn`t...

And I heard that John Thornton had his agent leak the Chad

incident to PFT.com...

Lewis admits Chad popped off

By Chick Ludwig

Dayton Daily News

INDIANAPOLIS | Tempers flared, but no punches were thrown and no coaches were placed in headlocks.

Head coach Marvin Lewis told Bengals' beat writers at the NFL Combine on Friday that there was a commotion in the locker room at halftime of the Bengals' 31-17 playoff loss to Pittsburgh.

"Our wide receiver (Chad Johnson) was upset that we weren't doing exactly what we thought we could do on offense, that's all," Lewis said. "He didn't do anything other than be upset and raise his voice. He needed to calm down and relax."

An Internet site claimed Johnson scuffled with receivers coach Hue Jackson and swung at Lewis. Johnson denied the fisticuffs.

"Have you ever seen Chad punch anybody?" Lewis said. "All right, so how ridiculous would that be? You can't even fathom that."

Lewis said the incident "didn't cause us to lose the game. There's never a good time for it to occur, but it does happen. Some things occur on the sideline, and sometimes the player is right."

Was Johnson right this time?

"He was right, but he didn't voice it the correct way," Lewis said. "That's not the way to handle it."

Lewis said the incident was leaked outside the sanctuary of the locker room by "a player, through someone else. We had somebody who was that selfish. He allowed things to go outside of our locker room. He was more selfish than Chad, and that's unfortunate. That person needs to look more at themselves, No. 1, for speaking about it, and No. 2, for embellishing it and not really telling the truth, which is worse.

"That person won't be with us next year, I can tell you that. Those people aren't good for you. They're not people who are on your side when the times are tough."

This is why I love Marvin. He will cut the rat that is spreading family business Corleone style. Get ready to go on a fishing trip ala Fredo! I can picture Marvin grabbing Thorton's fat face, "I knew it was you Johnny! You broke my heart." The way he does not let the players run the team is the reason that he not only will win a Superbowl, but will also be the best coach in the NFL. Marvin is no longer Black Jesus. HE is now the Godfather.

 If it was Thorton cut him, he has not really impressed me since he came to Cincy. It would not surprise me that Thorton leaked the story. The guy that runs PFT says that Thorton is a good friend of his and he was always hyping Thorton's web-site. I think we could do better now maybe S Smith can get those reps.

During his combine appearance Friday, however, Lewis vowed to rid his team of the player who leaked the report of the Johnson incident. It was a vow that, while keeping with Lewis' theme of accountability, could be difficult to keep. So far, no one has identified the source of the story, and Lewis could have trouble doing so, particularly after his promise to release the player. It could be a difficult move, too, if the player is a starter, as some Cincinnati veterans have hinted.

There could be repercussions from the NFL Players Association, as well, if Lewis tries to release any player he feels was the source for the leak. But in maintaining that his young team needs to come together as a unit, and subjugate the goals of individuals, Lewis said he will continue to investigate where the Johnson story originated.

"In the big scheme of things, that person needs to look at themselves," Lewis said. "Number one, for even speaking about [the incident], and number two, for embellishing on it. For not really telling the truth. That's even worse."

It has to be John Thorton...just from reading this, it kind of sticks out to me. Goodbye Johnny Boy, hope no one takes your fat ass next year cuz you suck at football and you suck at life.

WE LOVE THE BENGALS (AND JOHN THORNTON)

Notwithstanding correspondent Len Lasagna's efforts to poke fun at the Cincinnati Bengals new logo (scroll down), we need to profess our love and admiration for the AFC's rising star in the Queen City.

And Bengals fans everywhere can thank veteran defensive tackle John Thornton, who becomes (as far as we know) the first NFL starter to acknowledge publicly his affinity for the guilty pleasure known as Profootballtalk.com.

In a March 26 feature on Bengals.com, Geoff Hobson profiles Thornton's foray into the world of webmastery via a site launched and maintained by Thornton himself -- Bengalscentral.com.

As part of the piece, the veteran defensive tackle who landed a six-year, $22.5 million contract in 2003 with the Bengals makes a stunning (for us) admission: "One of Thornton’s favorites is profootballtalk.com, a saucy, irreverent site that takes shots at everybody in the NFL. Players, media members, agents, general managers aren’t immune, and Thornton likes the constant buzz."

We've always liked Thornton, who played college ball just up the road from our official world headquarters.

And we know that Thornton isn't the only NFL regular who checks us out -- maybe now a few more will give us a shout.

Also consider that Thornton spoke in November of not expecting to be back next year, so his attachment to the team is dubious. Also consider that he's a defensive "veteran" who was singled out by the local media for being most available, but yet never gets any of the coverage garnered by young, brash Chad.

And consider that Thornton's agent Jimmy Sexton (who would've been the middle-man on the leak) is not above ridiculous tactics, having screwed Phillip Rivers out of a rookie season training camp by demanding that he get paid #1 draft pick money, even though he was drafted #4.

For what it's worth, I don't think Marvin expects to find out who leaked the story. He's just giving a warning to the team not to let it happen again.

Check the write up on PFT about it.

Yeah, uhmn because PFT is so full of crap it isn't funny. Don't you know better than to believe their BS?

There BS is right on more often than not. For example, didn't they break the story about this very fight. And after it was denied over and over, they stuck to their guns. It's a rumor site, they'll get some wrong, but they get a lot right too.

Anyways, how can Marvin ever really find out. He's just using this for his offseason message. It'll be forgotten by August

Yes, they broke this story as Chad Johnson punching Marvin and having Hue in a headlock. IT STILL ISNT TRUE NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY STICK TO THEIR GUNS.

PFT IS A JOKE.

Each story has some truth, and should be taken at its bare minimum. A fight did occur, we all know that, and PFT got some of it right.

Marvin says he is after the player that leaked the story. What about Chad? We were up 17 to 14 at the half and I was happy. Deal with not getting the ball, you're supposed to be a pro.

PFT may get inside info but they then SNESATIONALIzE it into something beyond the truth of the story....

..puched ML...had Hue in a headlock....

give me a break..

Chad will mature...gaining maturity does not happen like clockwork..it takes experiencing the gamut of issues, anf facing tough challenges. The key thing is showing progress, maturing at a steady rate. Noone grows up all at once...ta-da..Look at me, I had a breakdown at the playoffs and now I'm all grown-up...not ganna happen...I'd look for longer times between issues or the elimination of issues that find their way to the media.
