TE in free agency?

I was wondering what everyone thought about the possiblity of taking a TE in free agency. I noticed that there are some pretty decent receiving TE's in free agency. This would be one solution to filling some gaps, despite the fact that their are some good possible options in the draft. The big TE out of ND could be a possible option in the second round otherwise.

I can see a Mercedes pulling into cincinnati's parking lot

UCLA's Mercedes Lewis (58 catches and 2005 winner of the John Mackey award as top collegiate tight end).

That pick would be a huge freaking waste of a first round pick. If we are going to use our first rounder on a tight end, Pope is far more of an all purpose TE.

Brandon Manumaleuna from St. Louis is the very definition of the kind of TE we need. He's known for his incredible blocking skills (like having a 6th O-linemen) but he has soft hands too. My guess is he'll re-sign with the Rams... but if we were going to get a starting TE in FA (which I don't expect) this is the guy I'd want.

Wanna bet? Or should we wait until you're done changing your mind?

I'm still hoping we don't waste a pick on a tight end on day 1. Frankly, I think Stacy the dancing bear can do the job of standing in front of people and pretending occasionally to run a couple yards to fake a route. Mostly we use our tight end as a blocker.

Marcedes vs. Pope????

No contest....take Pope....Marcedes may be slipping after a so-so Senior Bowl week...actually falling behind Klopfenstein from Colorado and the like...

Pope would be my man....but TE in the 1st would be iffy....

3 round for a guy would be better....
