Alex Brown wants a trade!

Recommended Posts

This story has broke on nfl.com that Alex Brown the defensive end for the bears would like a trade and has gotten permission to seek one. Why not trade for a young guy like this with a lot of upside? He is a better pass rusher than anyone on this team, he would be a great addition to our defense and add the pass rushing that this defense sorely needs....trade justin to them for him straight up..or find another way...we could really use a guy like this!

We just re-sign our version of Alex Brown to a huge contract extension, Robert Geathers is a younger, more athletic version of Alex Brown.

Besides Brown sucks vs. the run and matches Smith's sack totals, I would rather Smith as he's a more complete player, imo.

Only if we could get him for pennies on the dollar and send them Smith. But there's really no chance. I'm assuming he only wants a trade to get a long-term contract, so we don't get a deal there. If we could somehow get him to accept a sub-market deal, that would be the only way.

As of now, we have 2 high-priced defensive ends. The Bears aren't going to trade a younger, cheaper DE with 3 years left on his contract for an older, more expensive DE who is only signed to a one-year franchise deal.

They'll work on trading him about as much as the Red Sox do trading Manny every time he demands one.

he is younger than smith, also you say he has just as many sacks as smith well then that is pretty bad for smith considering that alex brown was in a rotation and didnt get nearly as many oppurtunities as justin smith..if you put him and geathers on opposite sides those are two pretty darn good young ends that you could have for a long time...smith is overrated and should have never drafted him that high.....alex brown has way more upside, if he had gotten more oppurtunities he would have had at least 12 or more sacks..if you watch him play you will see how much better he is than our ends

Again, it doesn't matter (if it were true) that he's better, simply because the trade doesn't work. If the Bears don't get value they tell him to suck it up and play out his deal. Which is what I predict will happen. Again: what would we give them? Justin's not enough.

For a minute Brett Favre wanted traded....Alan Faneca wants traded...

Asante Samuel wants traded....

Lots of players want traded......

Unless a team can get as much or more than they're worth they arent going anywhere and will bite the bullet and play for their given team.

Deion Branch held out and was finally traded... If a player is dead serious about wanting out he will hold out a year and may be traded after that.....

Most players wont take it that far... ( The money they lose just kills them).. so they play on....

Wouldn't Brown get more opportunites if he deserved them? The truth is that Alex Brown plays in a scheme that emphasizes role players being used in a heavy rotation, a system that works very well for the Bears but is based upon the team investing far more draft assets on it's defensive line than the Bengals. In fact, the Bears used a 5th round pick on a pure situational pass rusher, Mark Anderson, in 2006, and then followed that up this year with a 2nd round pick on DE Dan Bauzin. Plus, they routinely draft DT's as well, despite having a solid pair of starters.

Frankly, I doubt the Bears are attempting to replace Brown so much as trying to ensure that their unit of role playing DE's is constantly refreshed and not worn down by too much playing time. In fact, few players can play at a consistently high level if forced to play the number of snaps that the Bengals demand of Justin Smith (97%)...and many players could actually produce more impact plays if given less playing time. For example, Robert Geathers.

As for the proposed trade, put me in the camp that wouldn't trade Justin Smith for Alex Brown straight up unless I was convinced that Smith would never sign another long-term contract with the Bengals.

Seriously doubt that, she has a policy of not dealing within the conference and her asking price would be hard to meet.
