One game out of first

The (cow) chips fell our way this week, didn't they? Sheesh, what a stinky conference.

Big game for Cleveland and Pittsburgh next week. I don't think it's a slam-dunk that Pitt will win, and if they don't thing could start getting ugly in Steeltown. Lots of second-guessing over dumping Kordell, benching Bettis, etc. On the other hand, if Cleveland loses, the poopstorm will only grow heavier for Butch Davis & Co. And the Browns could be on their way to being the Bengals of 2003: the team everyone in the division beats up on to puff up their records.

Bengals could use a win next week. Good week for it in that Travis Henry is hurtin' and Morris is probably still out. Have to get that pass D back on track, tho.

Yeah, the AFC North starts out pretty weak. But remember, the division put two teams in the playoffs after a very weak start last year as well. The Steelers always start poorly, so I don't know why anyone is surprised at them, The Ravens have a rookie QB, who isn't that good anyway, The Browns....well they just suck....And then there is the Bengals. It's amazing what one win will do for their image. Already I've read several articles about how they have turned it around thanks to coach Lewis(if Lewis isn't coach of the year it's fixed) We do face an uphill battle manly due to the percieved image of the team, but a few more division wins would do wonders for our playoff hopes.

cheers

They certainly would. Look at Pitt last year: 6-0 in the division, 3-5-1 vs. everyone else.

As for the AFCN overall, yeah, we sent two teams to the playoffs last year, but both Pitt's and Cleveland's records were puffed up thanks to the Bengals' incredible suckiness in 2002. Factor our 0-6 conference record out and you get two .500 teams in the Steelers and Browns and a five-win Baltimore squad.

We've taken one win back from Cleveland so far. We absolutely, positively have to at least split with Baltimore and win the second matchup with Pitt. But the Bengals are already making it tougher for the whole conference because there's no patsy anymore. Unless, of course, Cleveland continues to slide...
