dchyde
"You’d also have to think they’d be looking at 305-pound plus guys. Except for Shaun Smith, they just don’t have a guy like that. That’s not to say tackles John Thornton and Bryan Robinson haven’t been effective (the stats say the run isn’t the overriding problem), but more girth would be nice to add to the rotation. And there are some big guys out there. The Rams’ 310-pound Ryan Pickett, a guy they liked coming out of Ohio State four years ago, is available. So are two big guys from Buffalo, Ron Edwards and Justin Bannan, as well as a Marvin-Lewis-Baltimore guy in 315-pound Lional Dalton." jjakq27
I think Dalton plays for SD. He is the one name that I have heard of.
walshfan
the two guys from Buffalo? the Bills are talking about Ngata....Pickett anchored a line that was worse than the Bengals..I smell second tier players ..no way.....
ShulaSteakhouse
Not many DT's or DE's in FA this year.Thinkin' go after DB's and Bentley's situation is interesting at center.Might have to get a DE and DT in the draft again. turningpoint
if we get lecharles bentley, that means braham is done, and so is moore, and we find a backup in ghuichic or wilkerson.
oldschooler
Ron Edwards' player page...Not impressed.http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235053Justin Bannan`s player page...looks better than Edwards`...still not impressed.http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/301978Lional Dalton`s player page...looks better than the others. But he is about to turn 31. He doesn`t have the upside of youth like the other`s listed above. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/12311Ryan Pickett is definitely the best of the lot.He still has some youth and he has put updecent numbers. The Rams Defense was 28thagainst the run. And 30th in overall Defense though.http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235235I want the Bengals to sign Maake Kemoeatu. He has great size and youth...plus he hasplayed on good defenses.http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/303181
schweinhart
Kemoeatu has the biggest upside IMO besides being the biggest. I like him better than Wholelotta Nada coming out of the draft because he'll stay steadfast at the point of attack without trying to move around uneccessarily. He's pretty much a dead ahead lineman, which will keep the middle from opening up against the run since he will not get washed out.Pickett moves well for his size and is fairly strong at the line. The Rams run D can probably be pinned on their edges and LBs more so than their DTs but between Kemoeatu and Pickett, Pickett seemed more prone to get pinned for a hole to open in the middle. I made sure to watch both Pickett and Damione Lewis at the end of the year and was more impressed by Pickett but not all that thrilled at the prospect of him in stripes. The Bills no doubt had a lot of hope for Ron Edwards this year but he tore up his shoulder IIRC and missed most of the year. He started a year early in his career but impressed the Bills so much that they immediately went out and signed Sam Adams. I believe Edwards has had season-ending injuries twice in his short career and would be a risk except at the minimum. Bannan looked like the classic overachiever who will proly stick somewhere but can't be expected to be much more than a limited rotation player.Dalton would be a stop gap who would probably give as much as he's got left in his tank, which could work out well for the Bengals. Plus there'd proly be some veteran's cap relief in his case for a 1 year deal at the minimum, maybe $200,000.In any event, I wouldn't expect the Bengals to get into a bidding match with any teams to sign any of these players. Nor should they. None of them will help much with getting QB pressure in a straight 4 man rush.
jjakq27
We could have our own version of Kemo. He would be a good pickup. He has played on some good defenses and would be familiar with the teams in the division and what they like to do.Plus he will know some of the other Ravens that might wind up here, like Ray Lewis or Will Demps. Will Demps tore his ACL towards the end of the season. That is a pretty significant injury for a safety... so don't expect him to be wiht the Bengals. Whur CHad At?
Is Hobson kidding...Lionel Dalton?!?!?!? Can you say worthless? He is like a exact replica of John "Peice of Crap" Thorton. If we even think about signing him, I might raise some hell.I'll pass on Pickett. He isn't anything special. Why put an average player on a bad defense? Please don't do the Bryan Robinson thing again...Next...Maake Kemoeatu, now this guy we could use. He is big, 350 pounds, and is run stuffer we need. He is decent with potential to shine. Don't overpay him (John Thorton), but I would give him a 2 yr. $4mil, and let him go at it. If he can stop the run, I will be happy.Nothing on the market right now really impresses me a whole lot, except for Tank Williams(SS), John Abraham(DE), and Darren Howard(DE). These guys we need to at least give a charge for.

They don't work out FAAAAARRRRR more often than they do
