cincy90 Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 What would you guys think about not drafting a TE, but signing UC's Eric Hicks as a free agent? He doesn't have an NBA future in my opinion, being only 6'6. He would be a stronger, taller (I think) Antonio Gates. He's got big hands, can run, and is a beast. You know that he's in shape because he's played damn near every minute of UC basketball for the past 2 or 3 years. I think his attitude would be "Jeremy Shockey when he came in the league" + 1. I could see him running over defenders, and creating mismatches. He is a beast, and if he gained about 10-15 pounds I personally think he could be made into a hell of a run blocker (for a TE). This is all my thinking, but let's hear what you guys have to say. Quote
bengalindian Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 I don't know about that, but I do know that Eric Hicks is the ugliest person ever. Quote
NJ29 Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Sounds like a good project to me... but you know the guy is going to test the NBA waters for as long as possible before realizing that he doesn't have a future. Quote
cincy90 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Report Posted January 15, 2006 I'm a UC fan, and I love Hicks... but I have to be honest. He's 6'6, doesn't have outside range, and can't handle the ball. He got swallowed up by Syracuse's big men, I don't see him doing anything in the NBA. I'm not saying that this would definately work, but then again the Chargers didn't expect anything out of Gates either. Quote
LB51 Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Is this for real??????????Has the guy ever played football before?????? We're really reachin now. Quote
andybren Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 The Bengals tried going for the unconventional tight end last year when they signed Kori Dickerson out of USC and tried moving Ronnie Ghent around. Neither guy made the team even though the 3 incumbant TE's had sub-par training camps. And sub-par for Schoebel, Kelly and Stewart is saying something.I'm all for taking chances and being unconventional, but when you're so close to greatness, you need to pick your moments carefully. We need a reliable, every-down TE and we should go out and get one. We don't need to be converting Tab Perry or Eric Hicks or whoever. After all, I hear Ron Artest is available, too. Quote
