richmond_mat
Oldschooler has me thinking. He says there are good things in Sunday's loss if you look for them. I'm at a loss to recall any of them other than we had a 17-14 halftime lead.
The_Next_Big_Thing
The first good thing I noticed was that Thurman and Pollack both still had energy during the game. Rookies often run out of gusto by the end of the longer NFL season. Sure, Pollack took time off during training camp, but Thurman went 100% through training camp to post season. The second good thing I noticed was that even with Kitna at the helm, pretty boy had a number of good catches. Our depth at WR is excellent, even if our #3 guy is a dope. oldschooler
David Pollack had one of his best games as a Bengal.8 tackles and 1 sack.Odell Thurman also had a pretty solid game.8 tackles. The Defense held the Steelers 38 yards and 3.2 yardsper carry in the first half. 4.2 yards per carry for the gameThe Defense played with fire and intensity.Palmer`s 66 yard pass on the 2nd play was one ofthe nicest throws I`ve ever seen. And Henry had a great catch and run.The Offense converted 56% of their 3rd downs.Kevin Walter had 5 catches for 73 yards.Yeah it`s hard to find much good after half time. But Kitna threw 2 INT`s and there was a botched FG attempt. And this was after the team had just heard about Palmer`s conditionand heard about Henry being lost for the rest of the game to injury. All things considered...if the Offense hadn`t self destructedthe Bengals at least could have made it a game. The Defense wasn`t able to recover from the Offense turning the ball over twice and they didn`t do anything with the ball when they had itafter the FG attempt. The Bengals have all of their starters from the Offense coming back next year...with the exception of Braham, and even hemay be back. And they have a good solid core of young players, ecspecially on Defense, that will have another year under their belts.Couple that with the Bengals being #3 for teams going into'06 with the most money under the cap, Palmer`s injury not being as bad as first thought and things look alotbetter than they did 4 days ago.I know I was reaching for some good. But the 2nd half was pretty damn ugly. And I didn`t have ALOT to go off of.
walshfan
Be it preseason or playoffs, Kevin Walter runs good routes and has soft hands... clutch Pollack is starting to feel comfortable with his roles and it shows.Geathers is very quick ..now if he can learn from someone to shed the guy blocking him....Graham is indeed golden. Stripes
Pollack looked great. I can't wait to see what he has to offer next year. All that Reinard Wilson talk got old!
derekshank
The best news I can think of form Sunday's loss is how different our safeties will be next year. With our gambling corners, good safeties are a priority. Madieu back... and hopefully a Bing type in the draft will make this an entirely different defense. Our back was broken on long passing plays, not the run, so it could make all the difference. Not to mention the fact that the reason the Colts DE's can get so much pressure on the QB is because they can go all out because of their quality safeties. If we are solid back there, our whole defense could jump... just like it did for the Colts in just one off-season.
Jet23
Pollack was the one bright spot. He was ready to play and you can tell that he will be at his best come crunch time. He was flying all over the place. Also, let's not forget that Kitna had a really nice first half, especially given the circumstances. I know, he was pretty terrible the 2nd half, but I still don't understand the shortage of running plays, especially when the Bengals had the lead. I don't know what it is about Brat, but he doesn't seem to be at his best playing Pittsburgh. I didn't think he protected Kitna really well.I'm starting to feel a little better. I will be a lot better once the Squealers are done for the year. COME ON PEYTON. I am happy to say that I will be rooting for a Manning for the first time this year!D CAFD CAF

Interceptor
They showed (for at least the first half) that the offense can run decently without Palmer. With the right kind of plays adjusted to the "current" QB's strengths and weaknesses, the Bengals are an offensive force to be reckoned with. I am happy to say that I will be rooting for a Manning for the first time this year!D CAFD CAFAs I sit there contemplating what the offense was going to do after halftime, I just knew they would come out with a balanced attack, with a good deal of running plays. Why? It was obvious: we led not only on the scoreboard, but our time of possession was much larger than theirs, and the idea of running the ball at them to wear down the defense was logical and sound. What happened: the second string quarterback was out there throwing passes. Stupid, I think, plainly stupid. Then, when we missed the FG attempt, I had this sinking feeling that it would be the turning point. As much as I love our team, the truth is they were just too young and immature to overcome that psychological trauma. Again, we should have ran the ball. All you have to do is check out the statistics of when Rudi runs the ball a certain amount of plays and compare them to when he doesn't. Case closed.
