CHAD's incident

Something happened at half time. Every rumor starts with a grain of truth, and this one seems to have some truth to it. Chad is a hot head, anyone that watches him should be able to see that.

However, to say trading Chad is a bad idea is not entirely accurate.

Chad will save us a ton of cap room. Chris Henry is progressing at the same rate, if not faster than Chad was. Chris could be just is good in 2 years. The defense needs alot of help, and not paying Chad opens alot of money. Finally, Chad will probably hold out, and I really don't want the TO saga. The fact is he is human and wants money. I don't blame him, but I don't think the Bengals need him or the attitude on the team. This is not my opinion due to the above incident, but an opinion I have had for a long time.

I love Chad the football player, and even like Chad the entertainer, but Chad's mouth creates a lot of turbulent situations.

Two questions.

1. Why do we need to save cap room? We're $20 million under... you want to save more? Is that the old Bengals thinking? Sorry, but this is Bungles talk..

2. Other than this, WHAT other turbulent things has Chad created? As far as I know, the media just jumps on Chad, but nothing to me indicates the TEAM turns TURBULENT after what Chad says. And if he DOES, it's handled and resolved by Willie and Marvin.

1. I want cap room to resign all the O-lineman with the exception of maybe Willie depending on how the people in the organization seeing Stacie progress (This is going to take a lot of funds). Then, I want a big name defensive free agent. I haven't really looked at the free agent market yet, but I know we could pick up a safety. Cap room is going to go fast once we sign the o-line.

2. I really don't know, but it was just my personal observation. I know people didn't like his KC comments a few years ago, and I would imagine many of the Veterans didn't like his post victory Steelers comments (as a fan i liked them, but I don't know how the players reacted.

I don't think Chad has to be traded, I just think if the options are there I would probably accept or pursue them.

Man it's sad how many bengal fans are ready to sellout on chad,

You think marvin would have played chad if he took a swing @ him? I'm sure chad whined about not getting the ball enough but thats no way he'd fight the coachs he's smarter then that.

As for anyone being able walkin and take his place? are you kidding? he's top 5 receiver @ top one at his age.alot of media H8's on chad and is trying to just tu rn him in to another TO

Just have faith in #85 and lewis

I think it is obvious there was a confrontation involving Chad not getting the ball. The fact that nobody has his back speaks volumes. I think his teammates are tired of his act. Dave Lapham pretty much confirmed that it happened, although I don't believe CJ took a swing at ML.

I love Chad, but he has to learn how to contol his emotions. He is not TO, but if his teammates turn on him, he could be just as destructive. This sux.

Chad: No truth to rumors of brawl

Report said Johnson fought with coaches at halftime of Steelers game

By Chick Ludwig

Dayton Daily News

CINCINNATI | Dressed in a burgundy "Sean John" designer sweat suit and ball cap, Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson stepped in front of a cluster of microphones and camera lights just outside the Bengals locker room on Tuesday night, and told two dozen media members that an Internet report linking him to a Sunday brawl was a hoax.

A report on the Web site profootballtalk.com — which claims that Johnson scuffled with wide receivers coach Hue Jackson and then swung at head coach Marvin Lewis during a locker room altercation at halftime of the Bengals' 31-17 playoff loss to Pittsburgh — spread like wildfire throughout the day.

Johnson went on WLW radio and local TV stations denying the incident, then held an impromptu news conference in the bowels of Paul Brown Stadium in a final attempt to douse the blaze of negativity on an otherwise positive season.

"I called this (news conference) to let everybody know that things that were said were false," Johnson said. "None of it was true. Putting my coach in a headlock and taking a swing at Marvin is ridiculous. I respect everyone — fans, media, and I especially have respect for my coaches. It didn't happen."

Despite Johnson's denials, former Bengals offensive lineman Dave Lapham — the color analyst on the Bengals radio network — believes there's some truth to the Web site's report.

"The sources I talked to, who I know I can trust, said something happened. Something went down," Lapham said. "I didn't get any confirmation on the actual physical nature of what took place other than there was a ruckus. There was some serious commotion."

Asked on Monday what he learned this season, rookie middle linebacker Odell Thurman said: "I learned that if we don't get Chad Johnson the ball, we're going to lose the game."

"I feel like we as a football team need to learn from this," Lewis said after Sunday's game.

"We came in here as a football team, and we need to leave here as a football team. We need to understand it is about working through the tough times. Do your job. This is a lesson that we needed to learn."

Citing an unidentified league source, profootballtalk.com reported that several Bengals players witnessed a scuffle between Johnson and Jackson as halftime concluded.

"Per the source," profootballtalk.com reported, "the last few minutes of intermission were ticking away, when the players were startled by the sight and sound of a helmet slamming against the glass pane of the training room door. Johnson and Jackson were engaged in an altercation."

The Web site went on: "At one point, Johnson was seen holding Jackson in a headlock. Coach Marvin Lewis entered the training room to intervene, and Johnson took a swing at him. Eventually, receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh broke up the skirmish, within a minute or so of the team exiting the locker room for the second half."

Jackson didn't return a message on his office phone; several of Johnson's teammates refused comment; and the Bengals had no comment.

"We don't comment on rumors," Bengals public relations director Jack Brennan said.

The Web site said Johnson was upset about the lack of passes thrown his way. He had two catches for 30 yards in the first half and finished with four receptions for 59 yards.

"It's ridiculous," Johnson told the Dayton Daily News Tuesday afternoon. "At halftime, I was getting an IV. Nothing happened. I'm listening to the freaking' rumor mill around here. Where it's coming from, I have no idea. It's a lot of drama. It doesn't make any sense. I don't like to say it's a bunch of bull, but it's not true."

Johnson said he was in the training room at halftime, getting intravenous fluid because of cramps. That's where he spoke with Jackson.

"The only words that go on at halftime are what adjustments we're going to make," Johnson said. "We were winning, 17-14. The offense and defense are separated. I was inside getting an IV. I had a needle in my arm. I came out late (for the second half) because my IV hadn't been finished. He (Jackson) had to tell me what we were going to do coming out.

"There's never been a confrontation ever, ever, especially with a coach. I've never had problems since I've been in Cincinnati (2001), on or off the field. For this to come out like this is ridiculous. I wanted to make sure I cleared it with everybody. The only way I can get to the public to let people know this was false was by holding this press conference to let you know this is ridiculous.

"I am very emotional. Something I can work on in the offseason is not really wearing my emotions on my sleeve the way I do. Sometimes the love for the game, the passion for the game takes over, and I lose it. Maybe that's something I can get better at — still loving and having a passion for the game, but not taking it to that next step to where it's not Chad anymore."

Before he leaves for Miami, Fla., on Friday, Johnson wanted to give Bengals fans a message:

"We finished off on a good note, making it this far (the playoffs) and I'm going to make sure that's the taste that's left here in Cincinnati," he said. "I've done all I can to bring us back to where we are now and I'm not going to do anything to mess that up. Just continue to look for better entertainment next year, and just stay tuned. I owe everything to Cincinnati and I love you. And that's it. Peace."

I don't feel any dread about this...I don't think anything happened that Marvin and Big Willie can't handle...

Like it was said above, PFT is all about clicks and ads...stop going to that site anyway...

It would be like if you and you`re wife had a little arguement.

And a neighbor heard it... and all of a sudden that little arguement

turned into ..."(Your name here) had his wife in a head lock and threw a punch

at his son."

This BS has snow balled into something bigger than it should have ever

been. And they way some people have took and ran with it...is just down

right ridiculous and embarrassing.

The Bengals are a multi-million dollar business.

They don`t feel the need to comment on "rumors".

Marvin Lewis likes to keep even the smallest things

"in house".

Chad Johnson felt the need to clear his name.

He doesn`t want to be precieved to be that kind of player

by ANYONE. Just like you wouldn`t to be precieved as that

kind of Husband by ANYONE.

I think he has been demonized by "some" Bengals fans for no

damn good reason. And they need to look at the big picture

and see CJ for who he really is. Not what a "rumor" tried to

make him out to be.

PFT is trying to get as much FREE PUBLICITY as possible.

This story has been a gold mine for that loser and his site...

Did anyone notice how many friggin ads are on that website. He gets money for each click on those ads and planting stories like this is a sure fire way to generate hits.

Not sure if its true or not but the website itself screams of sleeze. Not sure of its history though.

Thats right plus ESPN, FOX every show out there would have been nothing but talking bout this. You know how the NETS. love this stuff, look at Marcus Vick thats all you here....

I don't give a damn about PFT, look at the facts:

1) John Thorton referred to selfish players in the post game. In a later comment he said the incident did not involve rookies. Any ideas on who else he could be talking about?????

2) ML made the odd comment that they came here as a team, they need to leave as a team.

3) 1 offensive and 2 defensive players told Dave Lapham that the incident 'did happen'. I guess that's just Dave starting crap again. Damn Jim Rome / Stephen A. Smith wanna be.

4) The shot of TJ just after half time. There was obviously something wrong there.

5) And the most disturbing. Not a single player or coach has come to CJ's defense. Even Chad said in the news conference that he called that he needed to control his emotions. Why would he need to control his emotions if nothing happened?

Many of you said you would believe it when a major news source picked up the story. Well, they have. Rumors are started all the time by these internet sites, but they are not all picked up the legit news sources.

I believe in letting them take care of it in house. I'm just concerned that their house may not contain CJ much longer if this crap continues.

2. I don't care WHAT you get for Chad in a trade, it's a bad deal. No other WR does what he does to improve the team AND to get the fans excited. No other WR in the league sleeps at the damned stadium to watch extra film. No other WR spends time driving to Indy with their QB to watch the best tandem play so they can improve their game. No other PLAYER shows up before a game hours early to hang out at Longworth Hall's Parking Lot and the Stadium Lots hanging out with fans to get them pumped up for a game. No other player stops at the ticket booth and personally upgrades a young lady's birthday gift to her fiance from a pair of crappy seats for a 2 game package to season tickets up front at his expense.

CHAD GOES NO WHERE.

Thornton said ...he wasn`t talking about Chad. He plainly stated that he wasn`t

anywhere around him. And that he was on the other side of the locker room

with the Defense.

2) ML made the odd comment that they came here as a team, they need to leave as a team.

Maybe there was finger pointing and stuff after the game.

To assume that he was refering to Chad is asinine.

3) 1 offensive and 2 defensive players told Dave Lapham that the incident 'did happen'. I guess that's just Dave starting crap again. Damn Jim Rome / Stephen A. Smith wanna be.

Did I say something didn`t happen ? NO.

I said that it has snowballed into something

bigger than it ever should have been.

4) The shot of TJ just after half time. There was obviously something wrong there.

Again...I`m not saying anything didn`t happen.

And I`d say that whatever did happen coupled

with the team hearing the update about Palmer

had alot to do with it.

5) And the most disturbing. Not a single player or coach has come to CJ's defense. Even Chad said in the news conference that he called that he needed to control his emotions. Why would he need to control his emotions if nothing happened?

OBVIOUSLY YOU KEEP OVERLOOKING WHERE I SAID A LITTLE THING HAS GOTTEN

BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION !

And I heard that Marvin offered to be there with CJ. But CJ said that he would handle it.

If it was just an attempt by CJ to throw up a smoke screen and cover up something

as bad as was "rumored" I don`t think Marvin would have allowed CJ on the field,

much less to hold a News Conference at PBS.

Many of you said you would believe it when a major news source picked up the story. Well, they have. Rumors are started all the time by these internet sites, but they are not all picked up the legit news sources.

Yeah it was blown so out of proportion that media that covers the Bengals covered it.

And from everything I`ve read and heard something happened. But NOT to the extent that

it was initally reported.

I believe in letting them take care of it in house. I'm just concerned that their house may not contain CJ much longer if this crap continues.

It is ridiculous to ASS-U-ME that what actually happened was as devastating as that.

Hey guys. Boomer just did an interview a few minutes ago on WVDE a local rock radio station and said that this IS NOT a rumor and it did in fact happen.

I hope that you guys have known me long enough to know that I wouldn't make this up.

I hope that IF it is true that a reputable source does the story so that it can be laid to rest.

That's good to know... because Boomer is still playing for the Bengals, so he was in the locker room... wait. He's a part of the media too, so wouldn't be allowed down there.

The point is, everything is speculation at this point. You can twist the information any which way you want. I hope it didn't happen... and if it did, Chad won't be a Bengal anymore. (Antonio Bryant got kicked off the Cowboys for throwing his jersey at Parcells).

Chad is the energy of our offense. Carson is always calm and collected, which is what you need at crunch time... but Chad is the guy who gets us pumped up. He will be a bigger loss than just his presence on the field, so at this point, let's just hope it didn't happen. I just don't know why it would when we were winning.

We fell apart as a team when we lost the lead... and you saw a lot of finger pointing on the flea-flicker play. Before that though, I didn't see a lot of problems with the team concept, so I still find it hard to believe.

Quote from Thornton about it...

Defensive tackle John Thornton said Tuesday that his postgame comments about not being a complete team had nothing to do with Johnson because he wasn’t with the offense.

“I don’t know if anything happened because we’ve only got seven minutes at the half,” Thornton said. “I’m at the other end of the room with the defense.”

Thornton admitted he was emotional after the elimination loss, and was speaking generally about his team and how it didn’t respond to Carson Palmer’s injury.

“We can’t be selfish,” Thornton said. “I don’t have a problem with any player on our team. We just have to learn to deal with some things when they go bad.

“I don’t know what happened, or if anything did,” Thornton said. “Chad is an emotional player. He just wants to make plays. I’m sure if anything happened it’s nothing that the team couldn’t have got over.”

Look, I hope it didn't happen as much as you, I just wish somebody would grab his back on this one. I think we can all agree that at the very least he was bitching about not getting the ball. Given the circumstances, that in itself is disturbing. It almost feels like nobody is backing Chad as a way to teach him a lesson. What will be really interesting is how TJ responds to the inevitable questions.

In any event, it seems as if the news on Carson's injury is good news.

I don`t agree that he was bitching about getting the ball.

I really don`t know what happened.

This is a quote from the Columbus Dispatch...

Johnson said that if he had taken a swing at Lewis, the coach "would have sat me down" for the second half of the 31-17 loss.

Johnson had a quiet game. He caught four passes for 59 yards. He didn’t have a ball thrown to him for the first 19 minutes.

If there was a confrontation, it might have been related to a miscommunication in the second quarter.

With the ball at the Steelers 15-yard line, quarterback Jon Kitna looked to throw to Johnson, but the receiver was blocking a Steelers cornerback as if it were a running play. Kitna had to stop his arm in mid-throwing motion when he noticed that and threw an 8-yard completion on the other side of the field to T.J. Houshmandzadeh. It’s safe to assume Jackson discussed the play with Johnson.

http://www.dispatch.com/bengals/bengals.ph...0111-C3-03.html

Kitna threw 40 passes and only 6 were thrown

Chad`s way.

Hell Rudi Johnson had half as many catches

as Chad Johnson.

Here is a quote from Chad Johnson that I think "some" Bengals

fans need to ask theirselves.

"How could something small like this affect all the things I've accomplished?"

I agree the Chad has done far more good for this City than bad. Again, I just wish some teammates would speak up on his behalf. I think the 'players don't respond to rumors' thing is no longer appropriate. If their official web site is reporting Chad's denial and he felt it necessary to hold a press conference, surely at least one player can speak up. I'm not suggesting that them not talking proves Chad is guilty, it just speaks of how they feel about him.

I can't believe this thread is closing in on 100 replies. If this were as big an issue as it has been made out to be, we'd know by now for sure. Sure, something might have happened, but it has certainly been blown way out of proportion.

If Chad did anything so terrible, then punishment would have already been dished out.

Exactly...... Chad is all about winning. He's no TO, TO could care less if he wins or loses...... Did you see Chad crying after the loss to JAX and after sunday's game, he wants to win more than anything. Honestly Chad is one of the best things that had ever happened to this organization. We the fans love him, we need to back him up, not give in to these alligations.
