Stripes Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 LINKHere is a link to a little ESPN article with Eric Allen and Joe Theismann handing out their regualr season awards for 2005. Deltha O'Neal is Allen's pick for Defensive Player of the Year. I didn't expect any media people to take that much notice of Deltha's season, so it is good to see him get some credit. He led the NFL in nearly every cornerbacking statistic this season.Deltha O'Neal is my pick for defensive player of the year. He did an outstanding job of creating turnovers as evidenced by his 10 interceptions. He handled the responsibility of taking one side of the field away from the opposing team and completely dominated the opposition. Playing cornerback is one of the more difficult positions in the league and he played it to near perfection this season. Quote
walshfan Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Since Eric Allen is a former defensive back I can see how he'd go with one of is own..Personally I think the best defensive player this year has been Freeney. His sacks are down because of double teaming but its opened up things for his running buddy Mathis.. those two create havoc.... Deltha didn't exactly face amazing receiver after amazing receiver and had his best days against bad QBs. Although, don't get me wrong, I love Deltha. Quote
jjakq27 Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I heard a great stat today on Lance McAlister's show. Deltha O'Neill had 25 deep passes thrown to the man he was covering this season. There were zero completions. Zero. Zip. Nada. None. The guy that presented the stats said that a 25% completion rate is what some of the best corners do. Quote

walshfan Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 that means that Tory was beat mucho this year.... Quote
Stripes Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 Yeah that is awesome. All of the sudden Deltha can be mentioned in the same breath as Champ Bailey or Ty Law. Very cool. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Deltha doesn't get his props becuase he is a Bengal...sad. Quote

Hes good as a pure pass rusher but the guys unable to stop the run. Hes so overrated. Sure hes better then every defensive linemen we have, but there are at least 4 or 5 DEs id take over him. As a pure pass rusher, I'd even take Simeon Rice over him right now.And yeah O'Neil has been a monster this year. Someone posted an article somewhere with the completion % on him and the numbers were very good. It also showed that Tory James is getting owned, if that reminds anyone. Quote
derekshank Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I've heard Eric Allen say before than an INT has the equivalent impact of 5 HR's in baseball... which means we have a 50 HR guy on our team... and he didn't play in the last game.Maybe Deltha should play for the Reds too. Quote
DontPushMe Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I guess Eric Allen doesnt get a vote. Second to Urlacher was Colts DE Dwight Freeney with four votes. Also receiving votes were Steelers safety Troy Polamalu (3), Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson (2), Giants end Osi Umenyiora (2), Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey (1) and Jaguars tackle Marcus Stroud (1). How rediculous is that? O'Neil didnt even get a vote. Quote
