1st Round Bye/Playoffs/Final Weekend Scenario

Think about this.

If Denver wins out they are the 2 seed, and we will know this on New Years Eve.

Then, because the football Gods smiled, Marvin will rest all starters on New Years day at KC.

It is great that the NFL put the Denver - SD game on a Saturday because we will know what it takes before we even play on that Sunday.

Effectively, we have a pre-playoff bye either way, even though I would rather have the bye the first week of the playoffs.

There seem to be 4 teams in the hunt for the 2 wild card spots, Pittsburg, Jacksonville, Kansas City, and Sand Diego. If we got the #3 seed in the playoffs and had to play the #6 seed in the first round, I would want to play Pittsburg the most. We could put a final stake in their hearts, end their season, silence their fans... plus I think we have their number and know how to play them.

The team I would least like to play is San Diego. It keeps me up late at night thinking about getting carved up by either LT or Antonio Gates...

Whodey

In regards to the last game of the year where we play KC at KC.

I have a strong feeling this game will mean alot for the Steelers to make it as a wildcard team. I feel that the Steelers will need us to beat KC for them to make the playoffs. If that is the case, I hope we lose on purpose, and put the Steelers out of the playoffs!!! Maybe we should put in our 3rd stringers.

Any thoughts, if this game means nothing to us should we play our best and eliminate the KC Chiefs or should we lose this game on purpose and sing "nah nah nah nah say ay Goodbye" to the Steelers.

This is how I feel the regular season will end.

KC and San Diego each have extreme hard schedules, plus they play each other, while the Steelers have an easier route.

CHARGERS 8-4 MIA (5-7), @IND (12-0), @KC (8-4), DEN (9-3)

= 34-14 (.708)

CHIEFS 8-4 @DAL (7-5), @NYG (8-4), SD (8-4), CIN (9-3)

= 32-16 (.667)

STEELERS 7-5 CHI (9-3), @MIN (7-5), @CLE (4-8), DET (4-8)

= 24-24 (.500)

Colts 16-0 or 15-1

Bengals 12-4

Denver 11-5

Pats 10-6

*************

Jags 12-4

Steelers 11-5

KC 10-6

Chargers 10-6

Unfortunatly, I don't see the Steelers losing anymore regular games. Damn! I do see Denver losing to Buffalo at Buffalo and to San Diego at San Diego. This will put the Bengals at the #2 spot, where they will only lose to KC at KC. This game will mean NOTHING to the bengals.

Billy, step away from the crack pipe, please. A bye, if they can get it, should worry no one. Would you rather have the Bengals have to win three games to the get to the Super Bowl, or two? I myself would rather it be two.

And, consider this, while they sit out and get a little healthy, a group of likely New England, Denver, San Diego and Jacksonville would be beating each other silly just for the right to get to play Cincinnati. In Cincinnati. You would honestly rather be a PART of that kind of scrum? Makes no sense.

Finally, not saying that it would happen, but just envision, if you will, a second round game with the Colts hosting, say, New England. It wouldn't be the most surprising thing ever for an upset there, which would mean the Bengals would host the AFC Championship game with a win in their second round game.

There are no real good reasons to want to play an extra playoff game. None. Honestly, I think you must have gotten into Schweinhart's stash from his "root-for-the-Steelers-against-the-Colts" thread.

Where did you see my crack pipe? I've been looking all over for it! I was going to go visit the Browns website before the game, and a couple hits off it before I go helps me fit right in there!

I think there are good reasons for wanting an extra game with this young team at this stage. Next year may be a totally different story. My whole point about not wanting a bye week is the teams momentum. It's building with each game. Even in the loss to Indy, the momentum continued, although not like the huge boost it got by going to Pittsburgh last weekend and winning that game did!

Also I feel the bye week the team had before the Colts game hurt more than it helped, especially defensively. They had some mental lapses, and seemed flat. Especially on third down and LONG!! Cincinnati had 3 times the penalties, and the ones for pass interference were mostly due to their timing being a little off I thought. (James and Kaesviharn) Besides, the Bengals currently are pretty healthy. Especially compared to last season, so I don't think healing up is an issue. Neither is the extra rest. We're not talking about a team as old as the Raiders here who need a bye every other week!

Lastly...here's my main #1 reason. It's another playoff game I'll get to see at home for sure in Arizona! I think you're smoking a bit of crack yourself if you think the Pats will be able to go into Indianapolis and whip the Colts in the RCA Dome this season! No way. Not this decimated, shell of it's former self Patriots team. Sure. Brady is an awesome QB, but he can't play both sides of the ball! Not even having Brewski back will help them slow down the Colts offense one iota, so get those crack pipe dreams of Cincy hosting the AFC Championship game out of your head. That'll likely be next year. This year the Bengals will have to go into Indy and win it there, just like they did when they went into Pittsburgh last week for the division title. I think it's "do-able." Chad told me so! :bengal: Did you not get that memo from him? :)
