Next week is not a must win!

Im not sure they can beat the bears. The bears D is awesome. I think that is a game that chicago will win. Chicago has turned the corner. You could see these uys in the big one.

If the Bengals want the division they must win next week. It wil be nearly impossible to go into Arrowhead and win.

The Bears have beaten NFC teams, and I think Pittsburgh will easily win this game. The Bears are relying on Defense, a good passing attack or a solid running game will beat Chicago.

Assume that the Steelers lose to the Colts today, and beat the Bengals next week. That means the Bengals and Steelers would be tied at 8-4.

But since the Steelers will have beaten the Bengals twice, they would have the tie-breaker. Which means if the Steelers go 3-1 in the final 4 games (losing only to the Bears), then the Bengals would have to go 4-0 to win the division.

So, you're right, it's not a must-win. As long as the Bengals win all their other games and the Steelers lose at least twice.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: the team that wins next week will win the division.

Assuming the winner doesn't choke elsewhere. Neither team is going to give the other room for mistakes down the road.

(EDIT)

FYI, if the Bengals win next week, but still end up tied with the Steelers, the second tiebreaker (after head-to-head record) would be divisional record. Which means the Steelers' loss to the Ravens would tip the scales in our direction. Assuming we both beat the Browns.

The third tiebreaker is common games, which brings our Bears, Vikings and Lions games into play. Go Bears!

No doubt.

It could get to common games, but I doubt it.

Worst case scenario now is that Pitt wins tomorrow and the two teams come into Pitt tied, with Pitt technically on top because of the head-to-head tiebreaker. Pitt wins and they have a 1 game lead with 4 to play and have the tiebreaker nailed down. In which case they would have to drop 2 of their last 4 and we would have to go 4-0 to win.

On the flip side, if the Bengals win, we go ahead by a game, the head-to-head tiebreaker is eliminated, and we can nail down the division tiebreaker with a victory the next week at home vs. the browns.

If Pitt loses tomorrow but beats us, again they have the head-to-head tiebreaker nailed, giving them the advanteage in the last 4 games, since a tie favors them.

Best case scenario is that Pitt loses to Indy and we win in Pitt, in which case wins against Cleveland and Detroit would secure the division title for Cincy in week 15.

Yup. And if the Jags falter and drop to seed #6, then we play the Jags in Cincy while the Steelers have to go to New England. Winner of Pitt/NE goes to Indy, winner of Bengals/Jags goes to Denver.

We avoid a 3rd game against the Steelers and don't have to worry about the Colts until the Conference finals.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but this seems like favorable circumstances. Or at least the closest we're going to get.

To be clear, your first statement is the most revealing. Imagine this scenario:

1) Steelers lose to Colts, and sit at 7-4 with the Bengals at 8-3.

2) Bengals win in Pittsburgh, and will be 9-3 with the Steelers at 7-5.

With this, the head-to-head tie-breaker is gone as they both won one. That then takes us to the division record tie-breaker. The Bengals would be 4-1 and the Steelers would 3-2.

3) Bengals win against the Brown at PBS. That would put the Bengals division record at 5-1, and would guarantee them the tie-breaker against the Steelers.

So ... if that scenario played itself out, the Bengals would technically have a THREE GAME LEAD as of December 11. That's a 3 game lead with 3 games to go. Yep, the division would be wrapped up at home against the Browns. How sweet that would be.

See what 3 wins against divisional opponents can do for you?

Every game is huge from here on out... Any loss coupled with a win from a team whose record is currently equal or better than the Bengals will HURT !!! There are teams on the bubble for a reason and they can just as easily win out as anyone else. Lets not even mention the bad things that can unfortunately happen to players (See Demps in the Baltimore game)...

We are still the only team to go into Chicago and win, but we got up early on them and had a buttload of turnovers. The Steelers Bears game should be an interesting one indeed !!!

WHODEY !!!

:sure: I think the Bengals need to win just to prove to themselves that they can beat the Steelers,They seem to have no problem beating a top 10 Defense, but when it comes to the steelers they never seem to play the same...Some say this is not a must win game I disagree, if Cincy loses next week at Pitt but still manages to win the AFCN somehow U can't tell me that those loses to Pitt wouldn't be on their minds should they have to face Pitt again in the playoffs.
