Bengal_Brad Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Hey there!I was at the game yesterday and was AMAZED to see all the Packer fans. I was also staying at a downtown hotel where they had Packer pep rallies, etc. My seats were surrounded by Packer fans. It was a very good time, they were very nice and agreed to the most part that "our" time had come. I was embarrassed to see drunken Bengal fans harrassing Packer fans. I'll tell you the fan running on the field made me laugh, and I was cheering for him to reach the end zone. But the two worst involved kidsThe first was this Bengal fan behind me that kept harrassing this little girl sitting next to us. She was with herr mom and dad and was probably around 12-years old. This fan kept leaning over next to her and yelling "WHO DEY". She was dressed in packer gear and had made a sign cheering for Farve. Why harrass a young girl that is with her parents???The second was when we were leaving. This drunken Bengal fan had to be held back by his girlfriend. He was in the face of this Packer fan (that was probably in his mid forties). The Bengals fan was using foul language and kept asking to fight. The Packer fan kept saying "I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to my son", the son was probably around 16 years old. Neither time did the Packers fan lose their tempter or act anything but mature. One more thing, when we were walking up Vine street some Bengals fan were talking smack to Packers fans about being 1-6. Don't we were member what that feeling is like?Cincinnati is a great city, with overall great fans. Lets show some class! Lets not forget what it's like to cheer for our heros, and have undying support for our favorite team. Let's not forget where we came from. Let's be classy and have visiting fans remember the event as fun even though they lost. Lets not have them look back and say what a bunch of low class fans the Bengals have.I am a HUGE Bengal fan btw, but I was embarrassed by a few losers. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 It only takes a few, and I was never so embarrassed to be a Bengal fan in my life as I was yesterday at the game. The Packer fans invite a lot of it unfortunately, and some light smack and poking fun is expected and ok, but cursing people out and starting fights and throwing stuff at them, and in two cases physical assaults that I saw, are too much.I'm glad it was the last game I am attending this year. bengalboomer7 Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 It's because these are the people that WEREN"T fans when we were 1-6. Quote

Good natured back and forth is also fun. But, without fail, you get some drunk wearing a Bengal jersey threatening physical harm. All because someone dares to follow another team. I enjoy having a couple of 'pops' as much as anyone, but you know what? If you can't handle your liquor, stay the heck home! Sure, the guy running on the field was an idiot, but I'll admit, I chuckled. Worse stuff happens in the stands all the time. I like going to the games, but I can do without all the crap. What is sad is I don't think I would ever take my kids to the game, given all the derelicts. Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 i was at a bws yesterday and everyone cracked up there, of course we are mostly college students... lol Quote
derekshank Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Yeah... the Packer's fans didn't talk back, and acted mature... because they were in Cincinnati. I'm not condoning the behavior... it is my definition of ignorant... but you don't find things here like you do in Jacksonville where some kid gets his teeth kicked in for wearing the wrong colors.I agree that drinking has become tied in with football more than it should. It's not baseball! It's exciting without the beer... but a few people always take it too far and make asses of themselves. At least you don't see the kinds of fights here that you do in Pittsburgh and many other redneck football towns. It's just a shame... not quite as idiotic, but the same mentality as racism. Oh no... they are different! Let's kick their asses! Quote
thefrazz Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I use to go to Tickets Sports Cafe in Covington to watch games and see good people and friends. The bar is a charter Packers Bar. There are a mass of Packer fans that go there to watch the games. ALL of them are great people with game knowledge and like poke fun and joke around. I have yet to meet a "butt head" Packer fan.I personally have not had any issues with opposing team fans. After a win I just yell "WHO-DEY" and "Good game" and give a high 5 to anyone wearing the "wrong" jersey. No reason to be a butt head over a game. Some people come from far away to watch their team play and spend big $$$$$ in the process. If they do that and their team looses the least anyone can do is be polite and respectful and at least help make the trip a little better for them. When they get home it's always better for them to say "Yeah, we lost, the outcome sucked and it was a long ride home...but at least the Bengal fans were nice and fun unlike *place X teams division rival here* fans!Anyhow...treat opposing fans like how you WANT to be treated when going to an away game.WHO-DEY Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I've only ever been to away games due to location and opportunity. I have, however, been to MANY away games in many venues. While each cadre of fans has its own flavor, I have to say there is always a core group of jerkoffs who does things like yelling at very young fans of the other team, throwing things, spouting profanities. I just don't get that crap. I have had great times at other stadiums because, by and large, opposing fans are generally pretty cool. I mean, we're all football fans, we've all spent too much money for our seats and concessions and we have far more in common than we have differences. As a father of an almost 3 year old, I will have to think long and hard about whether to take him to any games with me in the near future. Football fans can be some of the rudest, most obnoxious jerks in the world. Maybe it's just the times. Even though I enjoy a beer or 3 (if I can afford it) at a game, I'm actually to the point that I wouldn't have a problem with them stopping alcohol sales all together. It's clear that almost all of these things start with the liquored up fan. Quote
smith288 Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I would venture a guess to say abour 20% of the fans drive home drunk. Probably one of the reasons I steer clear of games. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Wouldn't be that way if they sold weed at the game instead of beer. Still amazes me that beer is legal. Start selling doobies with programs, it'd definitely calm the fans down. They'd see an amazing hike in concessions too. Quote

Kirkendall Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 OK, let me ask this question. If you notice a "drunken annoying Bengals fan" ripping on a mature, well groomed and pleasant Packers fan, do you defend the Packers fan? It'd take a big man to stand up to a drunk Bengals fan, wearing your Carson jersey, defending the "other fan". Secondly, once again, like the Bengals fan that got the s**t beat out of him in Jacksonville, if you want to get rid this action, then stop selling beer and stop tail-gating parties. All solutions suck, but unless Bengals fans want to put a stick in the "problem", it is what it is.Wouldn't be that way if they sold weed at the game instead of beer. Still amazes me that beer is legal. Start selling doobies with programs, it'd definitely calm the fans down. They'd see an amazing hike in concessions too.BRILLIANT! Quote
