BlackJesus Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 Ok the Loss was Ugly..... now to some objective ... valuably needed perspectiveFirst to the Good--> The Bengals are 5-2 after 7 games--> The Bengals are still in first place in the AFC North--> If the Playoffs Started today the Bengals would be the #3 Seed in the AFC and would host a home game the first week--> The Bengals are 3-1 on the Road and 2-1 at Home... with the ability after next weeks win to be 3-1 at both....--> With a win next week the Bengals will be 6-2 at the Halfway point.... Any Fan would have been exstatic for this during the off season--> The Bengals still lead the league in Turnover Differential--> Carson Palmer is still one of the 3 best QB's in the League... --> Odell is still the Def Rookie of the Year--> The Bengals OL is still one of the leagues 5 best --> You can not be good at everything... you have to pick and choose your strengths.... this team spent it's chips locking up the NFL's best Offense... with Rudi, CJ, TJ, Henry, and Perry.... to go with the rocket arm Carson. As a result they have to go with young Defenders.... with a salary cap and FA you must choose your weak spots.... and unfortunatley this team with the lead is unstoppable... but once down can get ran over by the opposing RB'sThe Bad--> The Team is lacking a Recieving TE--> The Team is badly missing Madieu who was a Pro Bowler in the making.... Keasviharn and Ohalete could not start on most teams--> This team can't get any pass rush with the DL--> The Bengals need more beef at DT --- They should also start Shaun Smith--> The Bengals Defense suffers from over pursuing on the edgesTo Conclude:--> This is not the same old Bengals.... they are a playoff team and will make the playoffs--> Every team gets their asses handed to them every now and then.... --> No team that makes the kind of mistakes the Bengals made today can win the ballgame .... Half the errors were self inflicted --> Marvin Lewis has changed this entire organization and with 2 wins to come when they go into the Bye Week 7-2 preparing for Indy this loss will be forgotten.....--> This season is not over... and this team can still rebound.... with a nice home stretch coming up against winnable opponents this team can still win 11-12 Games and get a home playoff game in the playoffs--> Is this Team free of holes.... No , but what team is..... There are 31 teams who would take Carson as their starting QB in a heartbeat ..... and their are 27 Teams who would love to be 5-2 after 7 games Quote
PMThor Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 Yep, it was a bad loss. But. We are still in first, and we will learn a lot. This is not a sprint, it is a marathon, and the Bengals will rebound. We aren't world beaters for sure. But honestly who thought we would run away with this division in the first place? Put this one aside, understand that it doesn't define this year, and move on. Green Bay is in for it. Oh are they in for it. Quote
kingwilly Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 Consider this.Pitt bounced back and responded after getting smacked by Jax. Now we must respond vs. GB and then regroup after the bye.THis group needs to decide what kind of team they are. An OK team with good talent, or an elite team that can dominate and step up in big games. ML needs to pose that question. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 This will not be an elite team until they become more physical on Defense. The turnovers aren't always going to be there. Quote
walzav29 Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 It just has that feel of, "Sit Down Little Boy!" It was as if Pitt just didn't even consider the Begnals a real tough team. It's a bummer in the effect that Brady almost hung 400 on them, and Palmer looked confused. I think that Pitt is his Pat. (Like Manning). I want a GD Super Bowl victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If a team can't even come close to stopping the run then they really don't have post-season appeal. Roth had under 90 yards passing and we got killed. I'm wounded! Quote
NJ29 Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 I think that things that we got away with in the first few games were exposed by a good Steelers team. Against the Bears we got away with not capitalizing on turnovers. Carson has been a good QB so far, but earlier in the year he got way with forcing the ball into Housh and Chad. We lost, but it should be a good learning experience for Carson. Quote
