Always good vs Championship

I have had this discussion with many (MANY!) Steeler fans here in Pissburgh, and I am curious how those on the 'other side' feel about it.

You see, the Steelers have surely had a dominating team nearly year over year since 1991. That's almost 15 years of great teams, but no championships to show for it.

As we know, the Bengals have had (arguably ... ok, no argument) the worst team over that same stretch.

I like to throw the following question out to Steeler fans:

Suppose the year is 2016, and the Steelers have been a great team for 25 years but do not have a championship. Suppose over that stretch they had been to 4 superbowls and 12 afc championships, but no superbowl victory. Would you rather have that, or would you rather have 1 or 2 superbowl victories over the same stretch, but only have about 3 or 4 'great' years and the rest be down years?

Well, I am yet to find a Steeler fan that says they would opt for the 1 or 2 championships. This baffles me! Then again, I am a die-hard Bengal fan and have suffered the 'poor team' years, and hope/long for that one year for a championship. WHEN that happens, I will consider it all worth it.

So Bengal fans, you are with me in this experience. And you see the question. So, trying to put aside the Bengal Bias, what would you rather have and why?

Didn't John Smoltz just answer this question? The Braves have won their division title something like 16 times in a row, but always lose in the playoffs. And after being bounced from the playoffs once again Smoltz said that because the Braves didn't win the championships they should have won the entire experience can be considered a total failure.

I know I can't have it both ways, but this is what I want. Once you win one championship, you expect more. And to come at a much faster rate. I am a Buckeye fan (and I am sure most everyone here is also) and after winning the 2002 championship, I have expected nothing less. Since then, the Bucks of course have not been the same. Close, but not the same, thus my heart aches. But every year since, they have been successfull. But if they have a losing season, and this occurs several times over 15 years as you suggest, but win one more championship, I still will not be satisfied. It has to be both. Not one or the other.
