Look on the brightside

First off, we lost to a good team with a great defense by 3 on the road.

We learned Chris Henry isn't just hype like Washington was. He is much further along than I thought he would be. A lot of teams needing WRs really messed up when they passed him up. We have him signed for 5 years too.

This defense is like night and day without Madieu. I saw the safeties miss tackles at the line of scrimmage that turned into big runs. If we get a safety to go with Madieu next year, I think the run defense will be twice as good.

We have our center of the future. I think Ghiaciuc looked pretty damn good against the best defensive tackle tandem in the league. You might as well learn how to spell his name now because he will be here for a while.

It looks like Perry is getting his legs back. 55 yards on 7 carries for 7.86 ypc and 2 receptions for 21 yards. Plus, Rudi ran for 76 yards on 18 carries for 4.2 ypc. Thats another good sign for Ghiaciuc.

Palmer had another good game playing against a great defense with Braham and Housh out. 22 of 33 for 239 yards and 2 TDs while throwing to 9 different receivers.

We are 4-1. This loss hurt us all, but we have one of the best records in the NFL. 3 of the 4 undefeated teams lost yesterday, and the one that didn't lose was playing the 49ers.

The Ravens completely fell apart yesterday. They looked horrible and Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, and Ed Reed are all fighting with the organization for huge contracts and Ogden is thinking about retiring. They are done.

If there's anything that can truly ease the pain of a Bengals loss, it is this. The Ravens gave up 35 points to the putrid Detroit Lions, commited 21 penalties (second most in NFL history), and had two players ejected.

Bengals 4-1....Ravens 1-3. :)

Ghiaciuc (ill start spelling it Guy-Check) was more than capable in handling the defense.

Im sure Jax was throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him to try to take advantage and he succeeded. That calms my nerves.

If anything, w. Anderson looked like turd.

Perry missing that block when they forced a fumble was so heart wrenching.... I would rather lose on a missed field goal or a batted down ball than something like that.

On your comment about what would make the Bengal loss easier to take... How about the Chargers beating the Steelers tonight...That would make is so nice..

The one thing I want to know the answer to is: Why on 4 and 1 last night do you try to run up the gut, when you have not been able to do it all night...

You should fake the run in the middle and pitch it to Perry around the end.

Last night was just a bump in the road... We will pick up the pieces and be 5-1 when the Steelers come to PBS...

Many positives about the loss...and Chris Perry was definitely one of them.

Perry showed that he can have some success as a RB getting outside vs. a 4-3 once again and he ran furious up the middle when he had the chance, even if he did look like a spaz. Receiving wise, the guy is awfully damn good. They're putting him in more w/ Rudi and splitting Perry wide, which I like to see.

In fairness on the blitz protect, Perry may have been out of position to pick off the LB to begin with but he did a great job leaping back to a least chip the guy w/o blocking him in the block. In more fairness yet, I believe the RDE was actually credited w/ causing the fumble even though it looked like the LB got enough of a finger on it to start it loose. In any event, the pocket was collapsing from Palmer's left as the blitz came through. Yes, Palmer held onto the ball long but he was stepping into the pocket to make a play and I think they should have run the ball on 1 of those 2 plays after the 1st down at the Jags 45 to try to get closer to FG range.

Chris Henry had a great game too, but even there you could point to the drop he had in the end zone that would've added 4 more points to the Bengals score and the difference for a win. But pointing fingers at Perry and Henry isn't the thing to do. They both played outstanding games overall.

The real problems were apparent. No pass rush and no run D. This is mainly the fault of the D-line and it was glaring this time that RDE was a huge problem regardless of whether it was Jumpy Jr., Pollack or Justin (who they put there in the 2nd half). Nobody was home on contain when Taylor cut back outside and no LBs or safeties were there to make tackles. The pass rush just flat out sucked.

That would have been the call. Either that or a play-action pass. Either way, with all that beef, they should have spread the field out. I was yelling for a sneak, but that would have not worked either. Chiaciuc was absolutely detonated on that play.

Ghiacuic was baptized by fire and came out of it looking like the center of the Bengals future.

His play was the most positive thing out of this loss IMO.

He did get beat on the 4-1 Rudi stuff but not bad enough to cause the play to fail. He was still able to get Stroud to the ground and all Stroud could do was slap Rudi's thigh, which wouldn't have stopped Rudi if it weren't for the fact that the whole right side of the Bengals O-line was completely stonewalled on the play. It was too early to go for it regardless of playcall IMO. Marvin would've been better off calling for the punt and trying to pin the Jags inside their own 10 yd line.

Or line up Graham for a 57 yarder. Last year, the max of Graham's range was 53 yds, but he looks like he's got a litlte more life in his leg this year.

Loss or not, this team continues to prove it's intestinal fortitude.

As disasterously as the game began, they could have easily folded up the tent and called it an embarrassment.

They kept slugging until the end.

The offense looked very sharp in the second half, but poor special teams play, and an inability to stop the run simply doomed them.

I can't wait to see Madieu back, and I can't wait until that light goes on for the defense. Maybe those two things are confluent, and I hope so.

Thing is, I'm willing to wait for this team to grow up, because they're already something special.

After Larson and the special teams spotted them 10 points at the beginning of the game and having 3 pretty key players out, I was proud of the bengals. We all have to admit that Richie, Madieu and TJ are some of the more consistent players on the team. TJ is the third down clutch reciever, Madieu is the plug in the secondary that makes a lot of things work and of course Richie is the seasoned vet holding the O line on target. Without these three players I did not feel we would even play as well as we did, and I feel more comfortable going into the rest of the season knowing that the younger guys have the FIGHT in them that former bengals teams did not. We did not give up, and had countless opportunities to win the game. One of those key players plays and the whole game is different.
