I got this article from the Bengalszone front page. Apparently the Jags will have to start rookie second round pick Khalif Barnes at left tackle, due to poor play from the starter. If Braham cannot play Sunday, and Ghiaciuc is forced to take over, then it doesn't sounds like such bad news anymore. Then again, their line was already horrible, so they may actually be upgrading it by bringing in the rookie. Your thoughts?

Barnes against Pollack and Geathers with Ghiaciuc against Henderson and Stroud is a much bigger advantage to the Jags. Barnes was probably the best pass blocking tackle in the draft, its just he had such poor leg strength he was one of the poorest run blockers. I think he is good enough to keep Geathers and Pollack from getting sacks, but for once this season we might not get shredded on runs off of the left tackle. Hopefully Ghiaciuc surprises and becomes the Madieu of this draft. People bitched and moaned about Madieu because they thought we took him too high and there were prospects like Sean Jones on the board. Ghiaciuc had a very similar situation being taken with Jason Brown still on the board.

Barnes will still have his hands full in pass protect w/ either Jumpy or Pollack. But he is a skilled LT vs. pass w/ a nasty streak.

Run wise, I haven't seen anything that would qualuify as shredding off LT in the 1st 4 games. Jones had 1 of 15+ yds after busting about the same yardage between the DTs and last week Davis had about 20 yds on a fake WR reverse when Carl Plowed got pinned inside and K2 washed out by a WR oustide. But the biggest runs (20+ yds) IIRC were Droughns up the middle behind a WR in motion block and Micheal Bennett off the right side past Justin Smith.

If Ghiacuic gets in, he's got a major load to deal with. It would be a good test, proly the hardest one he would face this year if he plays more as the season unfolds.

I agree that Ghiaciuc will have the bigger test of the two, and will be in the more difficult position. That said, with the already abysmal state of the Jacksonville line, any change is welcome. It should mess up their continuity a bit, and that should help to have at least some early pressure. If Barnes struggles in the running game as has been predicted, then I shouldn't worry about the big outside gains we've been vulnerable to. That's all that matters to me.
