Offensive Line Depth being Proven last 2 weeks

Bengals offensive line Depth looks pretty Good. Proof that this is indeed a deep team at most positions.

Things to improve on for the Jags, game,

1. Defensive Ends need to stop pinching so much and maintain gap contain.

2. Geathers isn't ready to start, and Clemons should get the start over him this week.

3. Has there been a Kelley Washington sighting...???

4. Chris Perry needs more Carries as does Rudi. The Texans were in the game because we didn't run the ball enough, plain and simple. Just like the Cleveland Game, we cost ourselves turnovers and penalties, because Bratkowski is " pass " happy. We know Palmers' good, but a team like the Texans is supposed to be run on , and often that's why they were successful at disguising coverages on Chad.

I have spoken ( :sure: )

You have spoken. I have heard. The talking stick now passes to me.

1 - I disagree. Nobody likes to be pinched, but much of the Bengals defensive success is due to the level of aggession shown near the LOS. I don't think you change that just because it leaves you vulnerable to misdirection running plays, most of those by the QB. Opposing teams aren't likely to beat you that way.

2 - Geathers has been hit or miss, but it's fair to say that he's struggled against the run and as a starter. But instead of debating who should start I'd be more interested in seeing Clemons contribute enough to spell Geathers, Smith, and an interior lineman on obvious passing downs.

3 - Nope.

4 - I wouldn't mind more rushing attempts, but I'm still waiting for Chris Perry to break a single tackle using power instead of speed. And until he does that I'll consider him to be little more than a receiver regardless of where he lines up.

Finally, your point about offensive line depth is a good one, but the injuries to that unit against the Texans may explain why the running game wasn't featured more than it was.

Too bad a topic that's actually got something to do with what goes on on the field gets buried under so much stuff so fast.

1. DEs got to bridge the gap between them and the DT, keep contain outside vs. run, plus come up with backside pursuit. DE play has been more than adequate. Even Carl Powell has done some things, but on the whole Powell needs to see less PT.

2. Jumpy is fine doing what he's doing. If Clemons comes in for Jumpy, it should be at DT on passing downs. At DE, Clemons should come in when Powell has been used. Carl Powell needs to see less PT.

3. Might be 6 WRs active this week because of Housh hand. So maybe K-Dub gets in but on the whole I'd have to say I hope not. Henry is just doing too much wide and K-Sub offers very little out of the slot because of his weak separation. I'd rather see Tab Perry get his shot out of the slot if Housh goes down.

4. Perry has run the ball too much already, just ask Larry Moore. He's only worth running vs. 4-3 and did well vs. Vikes. Vs. Bears, D was too fast and grass too wet. Vs. 3-4, the flow and extended outside contain of DBs at line get Perry drilled. We're not talking Barry Sanders or Marshall Faulk moves here. Facing Jags 4-3, Perry should get 5 or 6 carries but the D speed is likely to throttle him. He's likely to get as many passes thrown at him but sooner or later teams will start to recognize that he's an insufficent blitz protector and will only be in as a target. As long as the receiving cast remains like it is around him, Perry will still get mismatched w/ LB.

1.I agree, I've noticed the ends getting sealed a few times. Against Houston I think they kind of caught us off guard esp. with the bootlegs. I think with a new O coordinator there was a little uncertainty of what they was going to bring but we made the adjustments & kept them off the board.

2. I think Geathers is doing good @ end but seems to struggle a little @ tackle which he played when Polllack is lined up @ end . It's been a nice rotation & will only get better if Clemons comes back. I'm not sure of his situation but from what ML said ,about don't hold your breath, I'm not sure what to make of that.

3. Kelly who? As already mentioned he may finnaly be activated this week if TJ can't go but I hope not.

4. We've got to stop the penalties thus putting us in passing situations it's hard to run on anyone if you go from 3rd & 3-5 to 3rd & 10 . We have a great balance which keeps Defenses guessing I don't see any need to change. I think we have alot of weapons & they'll take whatever the Defenses give. I think we're also getting the RB like 30 touches so they are running plenty it may seem like their not because while Rudi has been effective he hasn't had a big game yet but he will ... maybe this week the jags gave up 185 yrds on the ground last week.

Teams are stuffing the box upfront on the Bengals and taking away the interior running game first and foremost, and then cheating a deep safety over on Chad to take away the deep ball there.

At the game last week my friend and I commented on this - how many guys were upfront blitzing and stuffing the running game - and how the deep safety was cheating over on Chad because all Palmer needs to see is a "look" where Chad is not left one-on-one, before he looks elsewhere. Palmer takes what the defense gives him.

The Bengals' o-line is not providing consistent running lanes for whatever reason, just like last year.

It's easy to just say "run the ball more" and that Brat is pass happy - but that's what sets up the running game here - stretching the defense out - ecspecially over the middle, and taking your shots and using audibles when appropriate. Palmer did such a great job of that the 1st two weeks, but the last two the offense has had some problems adjusting to how teams are defending them now. I expect more of the same this week as long as the 0-line is giving Rudi and Perry no running lanes.

Palmer has carried this team and the offense on his shoulders by making great throws and remaining calm under pressure. The pocket was collapsing much to quickly for him last week, ecspecially up the middle. Teams will figure them out and the Bengals' need to take chances and go downfield every time they get a chance.

Use Henry and Chad at wideouts this week ....if safety helps cover Chad, Henry will have a one on one allot ...Put Perry or Walter in the slot if TJ cant go....Perry should see more passes his way this week.

I agree about Clemons at tackle more than Geathers...

Look for Henry to come up BIG this week ....2 TD's?????
