BengalszoneBilly
Well seeing how I'm still fired up after watching last nights "Budwieser Shootout", I was interested if finding out if there are any other NASCAR fans here at the 'zone. We have the Daytona 500 coming up next weekend. Any predictions on who might win it? Any views on the new points system, or why they did it? Oh, and who's your favorite driver? kevnz
Well you know I'm a NASCAR fan....Dale Jarrett is my favorite driver.I got to watch the Shootout yesterday live so I'm over the moon with what happened.....But the coverage is just shocking...direct feed so I got to see how bad the NBC/TNT crew is....ugh....Okay, if I didn't try I wouldn't know there was anybody in the race besides Gordon, McMurrey, Little E, and Harvick(don't start me on that punk)...I mean come on now...I'm sick of this "young guns" BS....Hopefully with the softer tire Goodyear has got it will put the racing back in the hands of the drivers and will see the young guns get there buts whooped by the old fellas...I loved the fact that DJ won and Terry Labonte was a factor at the end, plus the fact that most of the old guys ended up making the top 10....I think that Goodyear may have just saved NASCAR from becoming formula 1 with fenders.... kevnz
Oh, as for the Daytona 500...I would be betting on DJ to win it...But I wouldn't be suprised to see Elliot Sadler win it either...Of course I've got a soft spot in my heart for the guys that came up through South Boston Speedway in Late Model Stock....SOBO is where I used to go see Saturday night racing as a kid cause it's just about 20 miles from where I grew up...Of course it doesn't hurt Sadlers chances when he's got a Yates/Roush engine under the hood either....Yates and Roush making engines together...It's like chocolate in my peanut butter...(5 bonus points if you can remember those commercials...damn I feel old)
AGrizzlyBaer
yeah i could never get into watching racing car, horse, or dog or even track oh well
BengalszoneBilly
yeah i could never get into watching racing car, horse, or dog or even track oh well Hey, no biggie. It's definitely an aquired taste, and helps if your somewhat of a car nut/gear head/mechanic. I fill all three bills. NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in the country. It hasn't caught football yet, but it's gaining in popularity. Plus until football starts back up, college hoops and NASCAR is all I got, well I forgot baseball, but out here I rarely get to see the Reds, dammit! Too bad because I feel you are not a well rounded individual unless you enjoy watching race cars go round and round for hours on end! My favorite driver is Mark Martin in the #6 Viagra Car. Always stiff competition. A hard car to beat, to be sure. Okay...enough jokes. I'll come back after Daytona to discuss the race. See you then! I am a little surprised that there are only two of us here.....Oh well, we will just have to try to get them to see the light

I own a 5.0 Mustang GT, a Buick Century, and a Chevy pickup. I also wouldn't mind owning a Dodge Viper, if I had the money!Did you see the Ford GT commercial at the beginning of the Super Bowl? Is that a sweet set of wheels, or what!?! Chevy builds nothing that comes close to that monster Ferrari eater!Speaking of your favorite driver Dale Jarrett, he's a class act. I was stoked when he won the Championship in 1999. He had an absolute s**t year last year, and I think you're right about the softer tire rubber compounds bringing out the better drivers this year. Fuel milage races suck. We'll see just how good Newman really is without him milking his tires. As far as us two being the only guys here who appreciate autosports, well there's no accounting for taste now is there? I mean, c'mon...arena league versus NASCAR!?! You gotta be kiddin' me. No contest here. I'd rather watch minor league baseball (which I do) than this pretender league. It's not even as good as premier high school football! Look at the TV ratings for gosh sakes! NASCAR...BLAM!! Up there...way up there! Arena League...still waiting for it to register. Some people just take a little longer to catch on to a good thing, eh? Too many guy's still driving four door economy cars or family vans around here. Buy yourselves some real wheels, and catch the fever, be it NASCAR, Indy car, CART, IHRA, NHRA, Formula 1...whatever. And if you don't, get your slow asses outa the fast lane on the freeway, 'cause I'm comin' through!

Stay out too long, whammo, blown tire then behind the wall...or at the very least have the guys that pitted go so fast that they catch up anyway...If they have too many more snooze-athon 500s this year all those ratings and sold out tracks go out the door...Oh, and just say no to Formula 1....it's the devilor at least EXTREMELY boring
BengalszoneBilly
Oh, and just say no to Formula 1....it's the devilor at least EXTREMELY boring Yes Kev, Formula 1's pole sitter is usually the winner, if he's passed at all during the race, and is somewhat boring. But at those speeds it still beats the pants off the alternatives. (i.e. NBA basketball, hockey, arena league football, at least until regular season Baseball hits the field!)I still love March Madness Hoops

(i.e. NBA basketball, hockey, arena league football, at least until regular season Baseball hits the field!)You are a crazy goat Billy, or Billy "Crazy" Goat. Sorry that was lame.. Personally, and I'm only speaking about myself, I've have never seen the craze with racing. I can see the attraction for many, but have never really enjoyed it. I've tried, but I find myself flipping the channel after awhile. Now Arena Football, that's cool. I'm not going into it because this isn't the thread for it, I talked about it elsewhere. Hey Josh, It's all good. I don't think any less of you if you don't like racing. I just don't particularly care for arena league football.Football is like cocaine with me. If I can't have the best stuff (NFL), or pretty good stuff, (NCAA) I don't want any at all!
xjjeep90
I've been to three races, but I am not a huge fan. I just wish they would only keep it on Sunday afternoon radio rather than cutting into my other radio shows here in Louisville.

The only race close to me is Phoenix, and trying to get tickets to that, if you can even find them, are wayyyy steep!
BengalszoneBilly
Just to let any possible race fans here know...that if you want to talk Nascar, we have "Nascar Weekly" in the "Other Sports" forum. C'mon over there to talk about trading paint, etc.
xjjeep90
I'm a casual observer and have attended three races (Brickyard twice, Bristol Night race once) and I have to say, the Bristol Night race in late August is TONS of fun. Why you lucky dog!! Those are two of my favorite tracks, right behind Daytona and Talledega! Especially Bristol's night race. That race is so cool under the lights on a hot August night. (Whoa...I kinda went Neil Diamond there for a minute! )I'm hoping to catch the Phoenix race out here this fall. I think it'll be one of the races run under this new "playoff" points system adopted this year, and yes, it will be the first Nascar race I've seen live. I've seen EVERY other one on TV, so this should just be icing on the cake! Dammit! I wish this wasn't an off week for Nascar! I'm without football AND Nascar. This is going to be one depressing Sunday. Sometimes life really blows!

Only one event worth watching this Sunday is mighty slim pickins, don't you think. And I'll watch Tiger versus Davis anytime. It just pisses me off on how good they are, and how much I suck at golf!
