John Stofa
I'm proud to be a native Kentuckian, and proud to claim many celebrity-types who are also native Kentuckians, but we don't claim that headcase Hunter S. Thompson as one of our own, even if he was from Louisville. What a nut!

He took whack job to a whole 'nuther level that all other whack jobs strive to obtain. He makes me proud I'm from the Bluegrass state. "No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. A man that recognizes check out time when he see's it. See you on the other side Hunter! I agree he's all those things you mentioned. He was definitely unique and talented. But he was also nuts. I don't consider that a good trait. And his final chapter -- his suicide -- was the most selfish and unloving thing he could have done to his family. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for anyone who takes their own life and leaves their family to morn. The fact that he left a poetic and thought provoking suicide note doesn't make it any better. HairOnFire
Suicide is underrated. I've even suggested guys like Redsbengalsbucks try it for awhile. You know, expand your mind by trying new things. Have new experiences. Maybe see what the afterlife is like. If it's like the brochures say it is then I'm sure he'd be happy with his decision. If not he could always change his mind, fill out some paperwork, and come back to the living. Best of all, I'm now starting a rumor that it's painless, and upon reaching heaven you get a cookie and a fruitbasket. Plus, three months of free DirecTV.** Hurry, this offer may expire sooner than you do.
BengalszoneBilly
Suicide is underrated. Definitely. Any Poker player knows sooner or later the time comes when your better off just folding your hand and heading off to the next table for a brand new set of cards to play. bengalboomer7
No, but he was a father and a husband, and he selfishly gave up on them because he didn't feel good. Look, I loved Thompson, and as an English major in college he was oftened talked about. But we are talking about suicide, which by the way if your christian, jutst cost him a chance in heaven if there is one, which he porbably wouldn't have made it anyways. He gave up on everyone in his life taht cared for him

If you have accepted Christ as your savor but end your own life with the acceptance of Christs sacrifice, I personally believe your soul is saved.Im not expert on the subject but thought I would offer up the differing opinion.
