Warrick is cut.

I was sorry to see PW get axed, but Tibor's post does illustrate the "bustiness" coefficient of the Warrick pick.

"Number of seasons over 1000 yards? ZERO"

"Number of seasons over 10 TDs? ZERO"

"Number of seasons as one of the elite punt returners? ZERO"

"Number of pro bowls? ZERo"

I wondered how many 2000 draft picks after PW's overall 4th spot have produced much more? The 2000 first round of the draft was:

1 Cleveland Courtney Brown DE Penn State

2 Washington LaVar Arrington OLB Penn State

3 Washington Chris Samuels T Alabama

4 Cincinnati Peter Warrick WR Florida State

5 Baltimore Jamal Lewis RB Tennessee

6 Philadelphia Corey Simon DT Florida State

7 Arizona Thomas Jones RB Virginia

8 Pittsburgh Plaxico Burress WR Michigan State

9 Chicago Brian Urlacher MLB New Mexico

10 Baltimore Travis Taylor WR Florida

11 N.Y. Giants Ron Dayne RB Wisconsin

12 N.Y. Jets Shaun Ellis DE Tennessee

13 N.Y. Jets John Abraham DE South Carolina

14 Green Bay Bubba Franks TE Miami

15 Denver Deltha O'Neal CB California

16 San Francisco Julian Peterson OLB Michigan State

17 Oakland Sebastian Janikowski K Florida State

18 N.Y. Jets Chad Pennington QB Marshall

19 Seattle Shaun Alexander RB Alabama

20 Detroit Stockar McDougle T Oklahoma

21 Kansas City Sylvester Morris WR Jackson State

22 Seattle Chris McIntosh T Wisconsin

23 Carolina Rashard Anderson CB Jackson State

24 San Francisco Ahmed Plummer CB Ohio State

25 Minnesota Chris Hovan DT Boston College

26 Buffalo Erik Flowers DE Arizona State

27 N.Y. Jets Anthony Becht TE West Virginia

28 Indianapolis Rob Morris MLB Brigham Young

29 Jacksonville R. Jay Soward WR Southern California

30 Tennessee Keith Bulluck OLB Syracuse

31 St. Louis Trung Canidate RB Arizona

As an overall assessment I'd say PW probably ranks right about in the middle of this pack in terms of production. He's well behind Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Bubba Franks and a few others. But, he's less of a bust than Courtney Brown, Thomas Jones or Travis Taylor.

Here's an interesting side note, especially in light of some of the Peter King hating on some recent posts. The following are excerpts from Peter King's assessment of the 2000 NFL Draft:

Ten Things I Think I Think by Peter King - Sports Illustrated

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- I must preface my 2000 NFL Draft Report Card by saying I don't think these things are worth very much.

I remember watching Wisconsin beat up Iowa last fall from the Marriott Suites/Chicago O'Hare and seeing Ron Dayne dominate the game and thinking: Boy, is he slow hitting the hole, and is he lucky to have that mountainous offensive line. The NFL will eat him alive.

I remember watching LaVar Arrington from the Marriott Mission Valley in San Diego and thinking I was watching Lawrence Taylor Jr. The quickness, the playmaking, the awareness.

I remember seeing Peter Warrick in the bowl game and thinking what a great NFL player he would be.

Grade C - Cincinnati. One scout I like said Sunday: "I always like their draft. Then every year their team stinks. I don't know what that means." I do: It's the Mike Brown Twilight Zone. I will say this: Peter Warrick will be the offensive rookie of the year or my name is Giovanni Carmazzi.

I'm dissapointed about Warrick, but if they get Simon it will all be forgotten. Plus, I trust ML. What makes me more pissed is that my only Bengals jersey is a Warrick jersey. Question: Is it now unacceptable to wear it to games or is it okay because he left in a jerk free fasion unlike Dillon.

Heck, I wear my Carl Pickens jersey to the handful of games that I go to, and the wife wears my Jeff Blake reversible jersey. I'm a little annoyed, as I am now constructing my shrine to former Bengals (inadvertantly!). I have collected signed mini helmets of Corey Dillon, James Brooks, Chris Collinsworth, and Peter Warrick. (Brooks and Collinsworth I had a long time after their careers ended, obviously.) I still have an autographed CJ helmet...as long as nothing stupid happens....

(Or maybe I should start looking around for that Akili mini helmet that's been eluding me. B) )

I'm sorry if I'm beating this dead horse, but I also found this interesting:

Cincinnati Bengals

2000 Draft Picks

Round Overall Pick Player Pos School

1 4 Peter Warrick WR Florida St.

2 34 Mark Roman CB LSU

3 66 Ron Dugans WR Florida St.

4 97 Curtis Keaton HB James Madison

5 133 Robert Bean CB Mississippi St.

6 169 Neil Rackers PK Illinois

7 210 Brad St. Louis TE SW Missouri St.

Brad St. Louis is the lone survivor from that draft. I wonder if he realizes that?

Probably, and he also realizes that we just drafted a center who is probably going to be doing some long snapping in practice, and we have another guy on the PUP who'll be doing the same.

i like what alot of you are writting. I was on the other day and a bunch of people were saying we dont need him. since he is not healthy the cut is justified, but if he is just a little bit away from being healthy which seems to be the case, this was a stupid move. we signed two good players today, but we could have prolly signed them anyways. As for simon, we wont get him because were the bengals, we never get free agents who comming from real good teams amd are pro bowl players. I am really pissed about this move, and hopefully he has a great year cuz i really think he is a good player. I am worried about TJ he better pick up the slack. :player:

What?!! We could have had Deltha O'Neil with that pick? It's an outrage! Deltha would look good in stripes I bet.
