Wow, the Bengals should try and scoop this guy up, he was a great proscpect out of NC State in '04, and playd in the Super Bowl when Eugene Wilson was injured vs the Eagles. Besides, he couldn't be worse than what we've got...

The Bengals have lost starting strong safety Kim Herring for at least the foreseeable future and maybe for longer than that after head coach Marvin Lewis moved Kevin Kaesviharn from backup free safety to the starting strong after Herring injured his shoulder Friday night in Philadelphia

K2...starting SS?

It is like a nightmare. K2 being the first guy to hit Bettis or J. Lewis as they streak past a LB.

Why are they not giving Body reps at Safety? he is faster than herring and faster than K2. With our "Improved on paper" line and Lb corp, I'd rather have a SS with wheels than one who may lay a big hit every now and again.

BTW, watching the game again on NFL network this morning, Mitchell seemed out of position quite a bit and not as fast as I remembered.

Sounds good to me.The Bengals should have adressed the S position in the draft or free agency. What they should have done is sign S Lance Schulters who signed for league minimum.Herring sucked last year.I expected him to bring something remembering what he on the Buzzards(Ravens).I just thought he sucked last year he Really sucks this year.Bengals.com says he may be out for the year so they have to do something.Maybe they can trade Warrick for a S.

I betcha we pick up Ohalete (Safety from Arizona) who was just released. He played with ML in Washington and had decent numbers. Not very old, too.

Sorry if this has already been posted. I looked, but didn't see anything. From bengals.com:

score 1 for the Big O...from bengals.com...

After KFFL.com reported the Cardinals released Ifeanyi Ohalete Monday, one of his agents said he was on his way to Cincinnati to hopefully sign a contract. The agent for former Patriots safety Dexter Reid, released in the past few days, said he hasn’t heard from the Bengals as Lewis revamped his depth chart in the wake of the injury Herring suffered Friday night in Philadelphia.

The 6-2, 220-pound Ohalete is a name that has been frequently linked to Lewis because he made nine starts in Washington during the 2002 season when Lewis was the Redskins defensive coordinator, and agent Steve Caric confirmed the Bengals’ interest.

Lewis already has cornerback Rashad Bauman off that 2002 defense, and he made a similar move early last season when the safeties were hit with injuries in signing former Ravens safety Anthony Mitchell from Lewis’ Super Bowl defense. Herring was also a member of that defense. Ohalete has Mitchell’s M.O. as a tough player who is a solid special teamer with seven interceptions and 37 career NFL starts.

The Cardinals’ release of Ohalete is a bit of a mystery because he had played pretty well during a preseason in which he led the club in tackles in the opener, and he had signed an extension through 2006 late last season. Ohalete had also worked in the nickel package until first-rounder Antrel Rolle signed at cornerback. He was on the field Friday night when Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss ran right past the Arizona secondary for a touchdown, but he had plenty of company as several Cards bit on quarterback Kerry Collins’ play fake.

Ohalete, 26, signed as a free agent out of USC with the Redskins in 2001 and played there before the Cards claimed him on waivers late last preseason. He went on to start the last 13 games at free safety in Arizona with 61 tackles, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble, and six passes defensed.

Yeah, score one for the Big O. But Joisey, where's my love? The article also says the following....

The Herring injury also revives free-agent “Indiana,” Jones’ bid to make the club. The 5-11, 205-pound Herna-Daze Jones, out of Indiana, has flashed with his speed and alertness. He has four tackles and a pass defensed.

I think we can pencil Ohalete in at this point. Sounds like a decent pickup. Certainly can't do any worse than Herring and Mitchell have been doing. OTOH Marvin's continuing habit of reaching for former Ravens and Redskins makes me wonder if we aren't passing up a better option. Still, at this juncture, I would expect marvin to be attracted to players he knows. It's getting late in the preseason to be taking chances.

EDIT: YO BILLY! You've been skulking around the 'Zona practices, taking pics of Rackers and all that. Any opinion of this guy, info on why he got cut, etc.???

Ifeanyi Ohalete...103 tackles, 3 interceptions in 2003.

I don't think I've ever been as happy about a Bengals injury.

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals released their depth chart Monday, Aug. 29, which showed injured S Kim Herring (shoulder) listed as the No, 3 strong safety. S Kevin Kaesviharn was listed as the starter, and rookie free agent Herana-Daze Jones was No. 2. "It has a lot to do with his injury. Move to the back," head coach Marvin Lewis said when asked about Herring's place on the depth chart. "We know we're not going to have him for a while, if at all. That's the way it is."

Mitchell got passed up too, looks like

I'm all for signing any safties at this point, and was before Herring got hurt too. He can't drop into coverage like ML wants him to... so it's either change the plan, or get new personnel.

I think there will probably be better talent later on too, but we might as well sign one of these guys that are available now. If someone better comes along, there is always KK to cut. Then we will have some actual real life depth.

I hope this Arizona guy is smart, cuz he needs to learn the system and playbook in just about 2 weeks. Just in case, Carson needs to throw 5 touchdowns and no interceptions and Rudi needs to run for 150 and score two more.

Haha, oh wait, it's the Browns, that's gonna happen anyway.
