schweinhart Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 I think this happens Tuesday.I'd have to say the Top 15 on the list are:1. Cedric Sullivan2. Dan Lynch3. Kyle Takavitz4. Steven Viera5. Lyonel Anderson6. Matt Cherry7. Carter Warley8. Derek Curry9. Belton Johnson10. Doug Easlick11. Patrick Body12. Kori Dickerson13. Greg Scott14. Cliff Russell15. Quincy Wilson Quote
Bengals4Me Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 I think your list is on the money with the exception of Body. I say he makes this cut and gets the axe at the final cutdown with a strong possibility of making the practice squad. He has some basic tools (speed) that may be worth trying to develop. Quote
AMC Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 With TE injuries I see Dickerson sticking around, Anderson will get cut. As will all the fullbacks behind JJ. Cherry, Eastlick, guys like that will be gone tuesday. Think there will be any big cuts early? Bramlet, etc? Quote
MARVIN=W'S Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 Cliff Russell makes the team. Who is the #1 KR? Tab? He hasn't showed me anything to make me want to count on a rookie to start the season. Just my opinion. Quote

Only quibbles I have are Warley and Body. I think Graham sits until September 11, so Warley hangs around a while longer. They seems to like Body, too, and while he's no where near ready for prime time, neither are half our alleged starting safeties. In their place I'd ax Broussard and Elton Patterson. I like both players, but even if Warrick is going there's no room for Broussard, and we're overloaded at DE, esp. with Pollack getting snaps there. Quote

derekshank Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 I think I'll be kind of pissed of Tab Perry doesn't make it. I know he was a 6th rounder... but that is why you don't waste that pick on a WR when that is your deepest position. With the problems have in safety, I imagine there was someone available that could have made the squad. I guess it's nothing earth shattering that would have changed the season... but every pick counts. Quote
bengalskyspy Posted August 28, 2005 Report Posted August 28, 2005 Bengals.com reports...The Bengals also shelved injured middle linebacker Nate Webster for the first six games of the regular season Sunday when they placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.Rookie center Ben Wilkerson (knee) got “PUPped” as well on a day the Bengals also released seven players to whittle their active roster to 70. They must get down to 68 by 4 p.m. Tuesday, when teams that don’t have exemptions for NFL Europe players must be at 65.Webster, who started just three games before tearing the patella tendon in his kneecap last Sept. 26 against the Ravens, has undergone surgery twice since then. Webster, 27, a sixth-year player, said he had a similar tear several weeks later and underwent another procedure in December. He and Wilkerson can attend meetings but they can’t practice until Oct. 17 under a roster exemption. They can practice during a 21-day period, when the Bengals have to decide to release them, activate them on the 53, or put them on season-ending injured reserve. Also “PUPped” is rookie guard Stephen Vieira (foot), a free agent from UCLA who got injured in the first moments of rookie camp April 30.Maybe Sunday’s biggest surprise is the release of defensive end Elton Patterson, a 2003 draft pick that was re-signed this past offseason and had a sack in the preseason opener. Also cut was third-year defensive tackle Greg Scott, and first-year players Matt Cherry, a wide receiver from Akron, Kori Dickerson, a tight end out of USC, and Doug Easlick, a fullback from Virginia Tech.Rookie free agents Lyonel Anderson, a tight end from Kansas, and Cedric Sullivan, a linebacker from Troy, were also released. HoosierCat Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Thanks for the update, spy. I merged your thread in here since we'd already been talking cuts. No real surprises, everyone the Bengals let go was ID'd as a possible. Webster and Wilkerson getting PUP'd is no surprise. Interesting that they PUP'd Viera, too. Quote
walshfan Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 I get the feeling the Steelers are salivating at the thought of Marvin cutting Quincy Wilson.. seems like a Steeler back to me... wonder if the team can hide him somehow?? maybe just leave him on the roster... Quote
schweinhart Posted August 29, 2005 Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 Patterson is a surprise this early to me. But so was Crawford last week. They must really like Fanene. They're gonna need some bodies on the O-line for Colts game, so they proly keep 11 for that.I'm guessing next 5 cuts by Tuesday will be:1. Derek Curry2. Kyle Takavitz3. Cliff Russell4. Patrick Body5. Carter WarleySome of the final 12 are gonna be tough calls, but that's a good thing.I like the Natester on PUP but would've rather seen Wilkerson on IR. Braham is still ancient and forcing their hand to sign or release Wilkerson after Week 6 is suspect. Might have been part of the reason he signed w/ Bengals rather than elsewhere, though, if they promised him PUP. Quote

Cowher has to be pleased w/ Noah Herron. Even if The Bus and Staley are no go's at the start of the season, they still got Verron Haynes and Willie Parker to go w/ Herron. I doubt they pick up a 4th unless either Bettis or Staley go PUP or IR.But if they do go 4 RBs. Wilson definitely would be up their alley. Maybe Clarett more so. Quote

You can still move a guy from PUP to IR, right? No need to shelve him for the whole season...he could get healthy and injuries do happen. Ghaicuic has looked OK, so I'm not too worried about Richie, tho he's bound to start running out of gas by the tail end of the season. Quote

If he gets cleared medically and doesn't want to go, I'm not sure how they handle it.3 deep at C to start the season is certainly better than the beginning of last year. IIRC you're the one who called Fontenot (not literally of course) after Braham and Moore went down. Knowing Braham, Larry Moore, and Ghiaucic are there to begin this year allows some breathing room for that position. Hopefully, there's no repeat of Braham and Moore going down. Quote

It is 68 because of NFLE exemption if Hobson's got it right -- That sounds like it changed. IIRC used to be the exemptions were added on top of the 65 but Bengals only got Bramlet left as far as I know since Scott and Crawford were cut. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Wilkerson and Webster were handled exactly right. Like I said previously, I haven't given upon Webster and I'm crossing my fingers that he can return after week 6. He could be a very pleasant addition if teams a reaming the rookies. The only cut that surprised me is Patterson as I assumed he would be a late cut or find a way to stick. Obviously there's something they like about him...as well as something they don't, but I guess they made a final decision at last. Quote
BENGAL Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Has the team officially cut the roster down to 65? If so who has been cut???? Who can we expect to be cut Saturday? Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Just thought I'd pull this thread back up with today's cuts.Peter Warrick: no big surprise, though perhaps a big disappointmentKyle Takavitz: everyone had this guy tagged (see above posts)Terrell Roberts: bit of a surprise, another one no one predicted. Attributed to injury. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I am surprised they are letting Roberts go. This can only mean that the new young corners are that much better than what we had last year.Roberts was, as Randy Jackson would say, aaiight. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Terrell Roberts: bit of a surprise, another one no one predicted. Attributed to injury. He's #25 on Big O's hit list. Quote
