Been out of touch all week. Just got back in last night around 11pm. Tried to read the game thread, but just became frustrated with all the pantywaste turning it into a whining contest. All that ESPN shows is TO. Just interested in how DP did in his first pro game. Bax and Spain, you two just move along and disregard this thread. I would like some input from someone that can discuss it. DISCUSS being the key word. Also how was the run defense as a whole?

DP looked very fast. Got a sack, and almost another against McNabb. Mcnabb brushed him off like he was a little girl. That has to be good for him. I am sure watching that on film 2 or 3 hundred times will really fire him up. He lined up at DE several times. Net, I was pleased with his first appearance. He is the real thing. So is OT.

He palyed virtually the whole game, some at SSLB, some at DE, had 4 tackles and a I think a late sack vs. Eagles backups. Had McNabb once early but couldn't bring him down. All things considered, he did fine.

It took him awhile to get settled down. He does not loo as big out there with Oilly's O-line but he def has the motor and power. McNabb shrugged him easily, so DP will learn how to handle QB's the size of LB's.

The D just is not up to snuff for a trio like McNabb, TO and Westbrook. The run game did well for the number of plays they faced. Philly exposed how bad our pass support players are (KK, Herring and Mitchell) and our CB's were ususally in some zone sscheme that got abused by McNabb. We had decent pressure on him but since he is so strong and mobile it really didn't matter. James, O'Neal, Rattliff an the safeties had better sort out better communication and Thurman must recognize the formations based on down and distance if they have any hope of handling a team like Min, Indy, KC.

I attribute as much of the problem to playcalls and schemes as to players performance.

i watched mostly the first quarter. Didn't really get to analyze anything except that Herring got burnt. Whatever, they'll sort it out. Before the beer started taking over my thinking, I saw that Pollack was pretty much in position in that he didn't really give up anything big. But from what I hear from you guys, he looked good the rest of the game, which is awesome to hear.

I'm late to the thread but I'll add my bit.

Positives - I was impressed by how early the Bengals got Pollack into the game. He got his first test against starters and was immediately used as a true LB instead of simply getting reps as a designated pass rusher. Switched to DE for a couple of series, prompting lots of interesting switching everywhere. Smith flopped sides on a couple of plays, got a blow on one play, Clemons and Powell each got a play on the outside before moving inside. Lined up at MLB at least once and then showed an outside blitz. Nice sack against a backup lineman. Seemed in control emotionally.

Negatives - Seemed late in pass coverage most of the time, but didn't embarrass himself. Should improve. Seemed to slip and lose footing alot, as did several Bengals. Outside pass rush seemed easy to negate with a late punch that shoved Pollack too wide to threaten. Needs to flash a power more earlier or finish with a spin. Failed to sack Mcnabb on a 3rd down play that resulted in a late 1st half TD. Goofy haircut.
