Cornerbacks

Why do I think Deltha? Well, for one thing, let's see, Keiwan hasn't proven anything and Madieu's a safety, so that leaves only 1 CB on your list. I mean, he kinda wins by default.

But the bottom line is that O'Neal played very solid ball last year; his biggest issue was battling injuries, not opposing wideouts. The key thing I look for in a corner is the ability to defend the pass. That's what the whole "shutdown" thing is all about, right? Well, here ya go...

That's 15 passes defensed and 4 picks in 12 games...everybody above him except Bly had 16 games to do the same. In other words, teams threw at him a lot, they thought he was a weakness, and he showed he wasn't. Had he had a full season he likely would have had 20 or so PDs and 5-6 picks.

Is he the second coming of Ken Riley? No. But "done"???? I don't think so.

this is a stupid thread.....you have a safety and 2 corners ( one who is a backup) and left off a starter.... WTF???

Oneal and James are the best.. both gamblers..take chances ..get burned occasionally.. make big plays too.....

Ratliff is the nickle...more conservative at this point in his young career...good nickleback for now.....

Oh by the way who is a better DT Robinson, Thornton or Justin Smith???

ok,Well the question is more to see if you think Ratliff should start over Delta. Or maybe Madeiu could play corner(like earlier in the year) and someone else could play safety. Also just so you know your question is just like mine a DE and 2 DT! Know it all!!!!

At this point in time NO.... Deltha is a gifted athlete...he knows the corner spot and what to expect from receivers due to his experience of being a wideout at one time.. He gambles as James does.. They make things happen... and just what happens when you gamble alot... sometimes you give up big plays but on the flipside you make alot of interceptions and passes deflected too.. Personally I like their style of play.. Ratlilff is more conservative at this point... He has great instincts dating back to his high school ( Columbus, Ohio) and collage days.. Every coach who's had him has expressed this about him... He's insurance right now in case of injury and a good nickleback....

i think stealtha is still a good corner.

ratliff looks very promising, in my opinion. he is a lot quicker than people give him credit for. he has great instincts, but gambles like dealtha. he's a playmeker and he's honestly one of the surest tacklers on our defense. eventually, he will pass either tory or o'neal. it's hard to say when b/c we do have two good veteran corners, but by the second half of the season, ratliff should be too good to keep off the field.

To me, a shutdown corner is the guy who doesn't have many passes defensed because opposing teams never throw his way. Deltha is a gambler - when teams throw his way, either it's a long completion or he gets his hands on the ball.

Madieu will probably be one of the best FS in the game, so no... he should not start over Deltha at a different position.

Many believe that Deltha is the best athlete on the team. That coupled with the stats Joisey put up shows that he deserves to be on the field. Does he give up big plays sometimes... sure, but so does Tory... and pretty much every CB that goes for INT's instead of being really conservative.

Ratliff is very young, and hasn't shown he's ready to take over the #2 spot yet. Maybe after getting some reps at nickle he'll show some readiness to take a starter spot.

Tory James is 32, I see his days being more numbered than Deltha's. Next year, or the year after, James will either be the nickle, or not in stripes. Just my opinion though. I think Deltha still has his best years in front of him, so depending on future drafts, we could see Deltha and Ratliff as our CB's in the near future.
