shatan Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Case in point is Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis questioning the holdout of rookie David Pollack from the Bengals' training camp. Pollack has since reported to camp. This is typical in the NFL: Propaganda is created to make the player look bad and then the player is the one who finds himself under pressure. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/8747815 Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 I'd call that a borderline "Dis" if it's really a "Dis" at all. I mean what were Marvin's actual words? Boomer never really made that clear in his article. I don't think Boomer was taking a swipe at Marvin per se'. I believe he was just stating the situation as it exists in the NFL today, not just what was the Pollack/Bengals situation.Besides...I really like both of these guys! Quote
Spain Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Ive meet Boomer a couple of times and the guy is a real twat, and always will be the only one worse was collinsworth! However Marvin blasted Pollak several times. at times I thought maybe to much as the guy has to play here. However pollak brought this on himself. Quote
skyline Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Not all that surprising coming from a former player. It's like any group of workers...they tend to stick up for each other. I see that as a good thing.I don't know why you're so hard on Boomer, Spain...I like the guy. He's a big Bengals supporter, and has said many times that he loves what Marvin is doing with the team. He's allowed to disagree from time to time. And I can't believe you just said Marvin was too hard on Pollack. Wait...hold on...I think I see the sky falling! Quote
cover2 Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Marvin was wrong to get into negotiation. It's his job to coach. Pollack had to get what he thought was the best deal----end of story.I remember when Boomer asked for 5 mil and Coslett said he was out of his mind. They pay these guys to coach not negotiate contracts. I think these coaches are prompted by the Brown family to put pressure on the players. Is this tactic prevalent around the league or just here? Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Loved Boomer as a player. As a talking head I've never been interested in anything he had to say. Quote
LesterLyles Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 I agree w/ boomer. I don't think that is the right approach to take. It is typical of a player. just another example, alot of Jets fans in NYC are all over Herm b/c he is really standing by/supporting John Abraham despite the holdout. Perhaps this approach stems from the fact that Herm is an ex player. Either way, I don't think anything positive comes from acoach portraying a player in a negative light. Quote
GROIIIDayton Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 I think Boomer just said that to not seem like such a homer all the time. Quote
