kingwilly Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 ESPN has devolved.Let's look at how the train has derailed....1. Poker - This is not a sport. This is not even good TV. I'd rather listen to bowling on the radio. Talk about value-less, Amish rake fighting would be more interesting.2. Sportscenter - has lost the top talent and invokes way too many cliches, for my taste. Follows the "hollywood" gossip sideline stories ad nauseum. Only watchable during the NFL season.3. AND1 Tour. Is this the most unwatchable combination of purely non-basketball, ego-maniacal, inner-city one upsmanship ever concieved?4. XGames - this was cool when it first started, street luge was psycho. Now it is just old and boring. The winter xgames are at least crazy, with the SkiierX and snowmobiles...all in all needs to be retired.which leads into....ESPN Hollywood??? - at least they have consolidated all the trash and drama into one show, so that we can all conveniently avoid it. It is like when you know they are coming to drain your septic system, you try to be out of the house for the day. Quote
Irish Bengal Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Michael Vick is no Peyton Manning, but he changes games. Defenses change their whole gameplan, just for him, so how can you say that he's nothing? He'll come around, just wait and see. HE'll come around? It's been 5 yrs and now they want him to learn how to throw. I hope your not going to wait for 5 yrs for Carson to be good. Fact is he's a WR/RB at the QB position. He will never win until he learns to throw instead of run. Schaub the backup would be starting on any other team he a much better passer. I heard from a friend in ATL that the fans are growing tired and frustrated with Vick being one dimentional. Quote

Schaub the backup would be starting on any other team he a much better passer. I heard from a friend in ATL that the fans are growing tired and frustrated with Vick being one dimentional. How does a topic about ESPN turn into bashing Vick? Its been five years and he has only played two! Both years he has played, not only has he made history but he has taken his team to the play-offs. Vick is not the best passer, but what do you expect? He just started in the West Coast for the first time last year. In 2002 he almost threw for 3000 yards, oh and by the way another QB by the name of John Elway had problems succeeding in Dan Reeves offense. Any body right now would take Vick over Palmer and thats a fact. Why? Because all Vick does is win games.Instead of criticizing him for running, why don't you realize that Vick is still raw as a QB and is still learning. Oh and Fans in ATL are not getting tired of Vick. Well thats what I hear anyway. Quote
Irish Bengal Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 I sure hope Carson isn't learning how to throw the ball after 5 yrs !Why has he only played 2 ? Because he holds on to the ball too long, runs and gets hurt. Yea that's who I want on our team.Who are you Vick's Brother?I guess my friend who has season tix doesn't know what he's talking about. He only hears people state it at the games. Do you go to the games ? Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 That's what i'm talking about. It is just too cheesy. It's unbearable. With the exception of Ron Burgundy I have never and will never go to an anchor person for my comic relief. Just do good stories.Damn, I gave up on Ron Burgundy before a half hour had passed. Totally sucked. As for ESPN, I thought it was funny when a bit in USA Today showed that a hotdog eating contest aired the week prior had gotten better ratings than Steven A Smiths new "hit show". Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Yeah, but Irvin and TJ were bashing him the next week.It was lame! They only went after Rush a week later because the media jumped all over the story. It's that damn liberal media again. I tell ya' it makes victims of us all. BTW, anyone who listens to Dan Patrick's radio show knows that he's as disgusted by the changes at ESPN as the next guy. Sure seems to like his paycheck though. Last, I'm shocked to hear that Stuart Scott is an asshat. He always seems so grounded when he goes off on an ebonic rant. Hey, David Pollack, where you at? Quote

Sure seems to like his paycheck though. Yep, I really enjoy his radio show. It's not that I HATE ESPN...it's just that I don't really need it anymore. I used to watch it every morning when I woke up, but now I'm more concerned about the traffic report I'd rather check the websites for news than sit through 30 minutes of highlights that I don't care about on Sportscenter only to hear a 5 second blurb on something that DOES interest me. Kazkal Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 i h8 it for life when they put 6year playing baseball instead of bengals preseason game Quote
BengalBax Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 I agree with the ESPN comment. That channel has gone straight to hell. The reality shows and glitz and glamour just doesn't feel "sports" to me anymore. Most of the commentators I absolutely hate. It's just become a sell-out joke. Quote
BengalsOwn Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 espn is pure trash.i wish everyone would stop watching, and they would shut down.Oh, c'mon. Shesh. Baseball Tonight, baseball games, NFL live, Outside the lines, Sunday night football, NFL Countdown, NFL primetime, are all quality shows that involve the details of that particular sport. I will admit, I think the world series of poker is on way too much, and SportsCenter has gotten a little too flashy -- just want scores and highlights (not 50 states in 50 days -- I just don't care). Announcers of SNF suck worse than our regular crew on CBS.No one cares about baseball anymore.Salisbury shouldn't be on TV.Outside the lines is a good show?Berman's act is old.Stuart Scott will be killed someday soon hopefully.I'd rather watch Oprah than sportscenter. ckj414 Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Yeah, but Irvin and TJ were bashing him the next week.It was lame! They only went after Rush a week later because the media jumped all over the story. That pre-game show is on for what, like 3 hours, and they try saying because of 'time constraints' they did not have a chance to voice their opions when it happened...BS.... why, did we have to hear Boomer yap a little more and call a player by some dumb a$$ nickname. Yeah, that was BS, there was an awful lot of head nodding going on, and one of the anchors (can't remember who) even agreed with Rush verbally. I think it was Irvin, but I could be wrong. I really can't argue with Rush's point. Having lived in the Philly TV market up until right around the time of the Limbaugh Incident, I saw with my own two eyes how McNabb was overhyped. And I must say, I'm glad Rush said it, not because it needed to be said, but because I can't stand that man and I didn't want him mucking up my Sunday morning routine with his ugly mug all over my TV. And If you knew anything about the Falcons, you would know that while Vick does need to improve his passing, he holds on to the ball because his WRs can't get open and his offensive line can not pass block.Yes I have season tickets. WorldBFree Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 First of all, Rush Limbaugh is a moron.... Those comments were way off base and borderline racist. McNair had already carried his team to the Super Bowl, Doug Williams had already won a Super Bowl and yet the media needs more proof that a black man can play QB in the NFL? Maybe he should have used Akili as his example and nobody would have cared! McNabb is the best QB to come out of a great QB class and is not overrated at all. He did stink it up in the Super Bowl, but so have other great QBs like Elway and Marino.Michael Vick is transcending his position, doing things that nobody before him has done. His accuracy and decision making could use some improvement, but the combination of speed and armstrength for a left handed QB is worthy of all the hype.ESPN is bad tv, but so is all basic cable. CNN, FoxNews, E!, MTV and VH1 are also guilty of airing sensational tabloid trash to keep ratings high. This Terrell Owens fiasco is a perfect example. Quote

Baseball_Nation Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 No one cares about baseball anymore.Compare the traffic on Redszone with the traffic on Bengalszone, and you'll see that interest in the Reds outweighs interest in the Bengals and reaches much further away from Cincinnati. I'm not disparaging the Bengals--I'll be cheering them with all of you, but it's a common misconception among football fans (who are often one-sport wonders) that baseball is dead. Quote

I like baseball as much as the next guy, and the Reds do get more fanfare than the Bengals. Neither team has done anything in a very long time, so it doesn't really matter. Things seem to be in place for both teams to have success in the near future. As for ESPN, I agree, it is an annoying channel to watch, but sometimes it seems to be the only option. I'd watch FSN, but more than half of their shows are dedicated to NASCAR and poker, and I'd rather watch middle school girls bocce ball tournaments than either of those. Quote
